Celestine Chronicles #6

Prayer of the Fallen

Rate this book
"We are all monsters here ..."

Celestine is a land of beauty and horror where the heroic souls of men are tempted to fall from heights mere mortals were never meant to attain.

Terrence Mack has managed to survive in this brutal world, gathering bonds of great power and ability, passing trials and tribulations that would crush lesser men. Yet his own unwillingness to let others share his burdens may be his undoing, and his greatest challenges are yet to come.

To even reach his destiny, Terry must once again cross the Wildervast, a dream world where desires rule fate. He must survive the machinations of the Mother of Monsters, satisfy the Mistress of Weavers, and come face to face with a man who surpasses him in every way.

His enemy has lived for thousands of years, risen to virtual godhood whilst bent on destroying the world. Terry promised to end that threat, yet the sacrifices he's made have left him vulnerable and the greatest threat to his ultimate success may lie not within the Dust Lord ... but himself.

Very satisfying end to a great series.

I knew when I picked up Mask of the Template, that this guy was new to writing, it just stuttered In places in both language and ideas. I’m glad to say he stuck with it and grew and produced a fine series that has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Thank you, for having the balls to get up and write your story. I look forward to many more!

All things come to an end

I have loved this series since the first chapter and realized it was a true western isekai to see it come to an end in such a well confined way of hitting great notes tension growth and apparently all encompassing love has been great if there is anything these other authors can learn is your story must have conclusion and that u can even leave it open to return to

Great series, definitely give this one a go!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have to stress again what a well written, exciting, compelling series this has been. I don't really have much to add but I'm leaving another review as I think the author deserves the recognition and hopefully this might sway a couple of people to pick up the first book, Mask of the Template.

Nice conclusion to the series. Can't really think of anything else to say without giving something away. At this point, you should know what to expect.

I think I struggled with this book because the author made the decision to drop half of the characters I had grown interested in over the course of the series. The vast majority of this book is about Terry's quest to vanquish the dust Lord, and he leaves the majority of his allies behind to do so. Amongst these allies are some of the first characters who have been with him from the start and their loss was felt greatly.

I think this is probably because there are simply too many characters in the series. The author got too excited about the harem element and gave Terry to many wives for them all to get the needed time to remain relevant to the story. As a result characters like Shy, Laina, Halla, and Asturial are forgotten in this novel, which is a detriment to the series because they were the most fleshed out of Terry's wives and could have done with being there. It also doesn't help that Terry continues to meet new women throughout this book and almost feels like those old women were forgotten and replaced.

This is a common flaw in books like these where harems grow too big and early characters are forgotten to make way for new characters even though the reader has grown attached those old characters.

However, for all that, this story at least bought some closure to this series. I know that the author has said that he will keep writing in this universe, but at least he understands the fundamentals of telling a story; that it has a good beginning, middle an, maybe most importantly, an end. So many series seem to forget this at the moment and as a result, they overstay their welcome. I'm fully happy for this series to pick up again in the future as a new story, it's when they simply keep going with no ending in sight that I get frustrated.

Overall though, this was an okay book. The majority of my objections have been subjective and I think if you enjoyed the earlier books you will properly enjoy this one. Maybe on a reread I will enjoy this series more when I have spent less time in between books, and all the characters and plotlines fresh in my mind.

I enjoyed very much

I really enjoyed the plot and layout and delivery of the story. The characters were so well invested I did not lose track of who was who through all the books. I have recommended to others even as a debate to virgin harem readers. Look forward to more from Cebelius. Keep your pen and mind sharp. Thank you.

Terrance Mack, The Boss has been through a lot, and accomplished a lot in a remarkably short amount of time. Thomas, the Dust Lord has not been idle either. His ultimate conquest of Celestine continues with the destruction of Nanjing and the subjugation of the vermilion bird Zhūquè. The army of fifty-thousand Thomas had gathered was not needed. Shadows and Dust. The power that Thomas commands is overwhelming. How will Terry ever be able to defeat such a force? Terry, Prada, Euryale, Mela, and Isdel crossed the Wildervast and entered the Seat of Devotion in the Twilight Zone. The confrontation with Thomas, along with several other minor battles, would be settled here. There is much more of the story to discover, leading to a satisfying conclusion, but I dare not reveal any more. This has been such a wonderful story, filled with happiness and sorrow, love and despair, success and failure. Tess Irondale is remarkable! The unanswered question: Why does Celestine steal souls and corrupt them?

The protagonist, still reeling from past battles, faces new threats. Their journey takes them deeper into the Celestine realm, where they encounter powerful foes and uncover hidden secrets. The stakes are higher than ever, drawing them into a web of intrigue and danger.

As alliances shift and betrayals surface, the protagonist navigates a complex world of magic and politics. They discover the true nature of an ancient artefact they possess, which holds the key to stopping a looming catastrophe. Intense battles ensue, and they form unexpected alliances, including with former enemies, to survive. The protagonist learns of a prophecy that foretells a great sacrifice needed to save their world.

The climax reveals the protagonist's ultimate test: they must choose between saving their closest ally or sacrificing themselves to stop the antagonist's dark plan. In a heart-wrenching decision, they decide to sacrifice themselves, leading to an epic battle where they harness the full power of the artefact. Their sacrifice disrupts the antagonist's plans, but not before they are mortally wounded. The story concludes with their allies mourning their loss while vowing to continue the fight, hinting at future adventures and the protagonist's potential return.

Thank you for a great journey

I hope to hear about The Boss and the rest again some day. I was invested since the first book. Though I am disappointed that the ark didn't end where it began, that is to say with a reunion with shy but I suppose that's something to look forward to. I got the impression you had more to say but made the decision to stop writing at the end to leave us wanting more 😊

Absolutely loved this book

Honestly this entire SERIES was utterly amazing. Very well written, with an excellent plot and incredibly well paced. And for once in my life I got an ending that made me happy to read. No spoilers here. But am happy that it ended the way it did. So thank you Cebelius for this book. And all the rest to come.

Endings are hard.

Many authors don't plan how to end a series. The way this comes together, even in the aftermath, implies real thought and planning.

The series is not for everyone. I barely slogged through some of the books, for various reasons. But this ending is excellent, and worthwhile for anyone that has read some of the predecessors.

A great end to a great series

This book finishes up the story arc that from beginning to end was a masterful weaving of memorable characters, a remarkable storyline, and amazing world building. I'm very interested to read what comes out of the author next!

Author knows how to wrap things up

Wrapped up every plot thread directly connected to Terrence Mack. Author is talented. Will now continue to read the Mountain King with fervor and consider donating to his patreon on dark and lonely nights.

Fine ending to the series

Though the series was dark at times, on the whole the storyline was a very interesting concept, and I enjoyed reflecting on some of the questions that were brought up. Look forward to a continuation in the mountain king saga

I was happy that I was wrong about the outcome of this one, and it's a good wrap for this story arc.

I liked the first book in the other Celestine series (name escapes me at the moment) but I'm a bit concerned that it may be going the villain route, as I prefer the (reasonably but not stupidly) good guys like Terry. I'm looking forward to seeing what further adventures this world has to offer us.

Story Arc Completes

Monster girl harem with adult situations
I have enjoyed all six books, and I'm sad to see the story end. I will do my best to pick up any short story collections set in this universe. The characters are well drawn that this conclusion makes me sad, yet hopeful more stories with these participants will arise. Stunning cover art chosen. Highly recommended series.

Very good Sir!

Very nicely done. You started the story strong and didn’t crash and burn it like many authors do with long series. To the people who are here because of the cover art, you will want to find book one and start there. Or if you’re up for it, jump in at the end and go back and see how it started.

A great ending for the series, the author actually surprised me by giving it a happy ending, as the afterword mentions there are a couple of loose ends but can easily be resolved outside of Terry sphere of influence so in a sense it got proper closure. I hope the author keep expanding on this beautiful world of Celestine that he build.

Great

A good ending and a powerful and fun read. Cebelius did a fantastic job in finishing this arc and as a reader I am proud and happy to have been reading his works since he first began. I'm sure I'll come back to this series and his books many times in the future.

Excellent ending

Ties everything up nicely, no stupid exploits discovered at the last second. The hero earns it. Also doesn't just end but wraps things up nicely, making for a great resolution. If you enjoyed the previous books you'll like this.
