He’s cocky, seven-feet-tall, scaly, & green.
She’s been burned in the past.
Can an alien & human woman find true love together?

Burned by an ex, the last thing Evie wants is a husband, especially a seven-foot-tall, scaled, green-skinned alien. But when she applies to the Extraterrestrial Matchmaking Service on a dare, she’s paired with Vork. He’s big and dangerous, and he hits all her buttons. Passion sparks between them, but does she dare trust this sexy alien with her heart?

As a career spacefleet commander, the last thing Vork has time for is a mate. But after a mix-up, he’s matched with a human female. He decides he’ll produce a child with her, and then get back to his life in the stars. Until he touches Evie and a matebond flares on his palm. When a rival warlord challenges Vork and Evie is the prize, Vork will have to decide: Give Evie up or battle to the death to claim her as his bride.

Vork is book one in the Mail-Order Brides of Crakair series. This standalone, full-length story has on-the-page heat, hot aliens who look and act alien, a guaranteed happily ever after, no cheating, and no cliffhanger. You can find the rest of the series here.

AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

Imaginative alien world!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳😬🤬😚

The heroine: Evie - She works for the agency that matches human women with alien men in need of brides. She had a bad experience in the past and signed up for the service herself and is surprised when a match for her is found. Once a match is found, the human has 10 days to decide if she accepts the courtship agreement or wants to return home.

The Hero: Vork - He is a Spacefleet Commander with higher aspirations for his career and has no time for a mate. However, his mother wants more for him and signs him up for a human mate. Since disease ran rampant throughout the galaxy and killed off the majority of the females on his planet. When Vork is matched with a human woman, he is not happy about it, but agrees to go through it for his mother.

The Story: Vork is immediately taken with Evie, the tiny human woman who he matched with. Evie is equally entranced by Vork and is eager to be on this adventure on another planet and to learn everything there is to learn about Vork and the planet. However, when at a very alien restaurant, Evie mistakenly offends another man who wants to fight Vork for the offense. He calls Vengeance, which is a sort of duel alien style.

The book was told in dual POV by two narrators, Teddy Hamilton and Tawnia Murray. Both of them fit the characters well. I have listened to Teddy Hamilton a few times before and love his voice and the tempo of his reading. Tawnia Murray is not one of my favorites but her voice is nice and she did a good job, though there is something about her cadence that I am not fond of. Like there is a definite end of each sentence with a slight pause between. So it seems more like stilted reading than conversational speaking.

The story was a good one and I liked the romance and there was plenty of steam as well. I loved the innovative world building, which was much more inventive than a lot of alien books I have read in the past. I loved the descriptions of the food, customs and even furniture. They were definitely different than any other book I have read and made it much more realistic and enjoyable. Realistic in the sense that almost everything on an alien world is extremely different than on Earth.

Much appreciation for the recommendation!!

Hot sexy alien read and I needed it! Vork was all that and a bag of chips (yeah I'm bringing this saying back lol)! Cute storyline! Great secondary characters! Quirky, funny species differences which I love in an alien read. Great lead into the next novel.

Only issue I had, and it is a minor one, the villainy/angst could have been amped up a bit. This part of the storyline seemed a bit rushed. I would have liked to fell more connected to this aspect of the book.

Super excited to read book 2!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

The audiobook was free and the blurb seemed interesting so I decided to go for it. I thought I was going to love it at first, but honestly nothing really happened?

I was hoping to like this enough to continue the series, sadly I won't be doing that. I think the idea was there, a good one, but the execution was lacking.

I'm familiar with the male narrator and I liked his performance, while the female narrator was so-so. Not the best but also not the worst.

Would I have liked this better with a different female narrator? Eh, maybe, maybe not. There's only so much narrators can do with a book like this, so I'm not disappointed.

Not bad. Fantastic idea. Who wouldn't want to be mated with a gorgeous, green-abdomen hunk of an alien with actual personality?

Ticks most of the boxes for me ;P

description

“Are you sure?” she said to his mother.

“What is my parent unit saying?” he asked.

“Parent unit?” Evie fought not to smile. “Haven’t heard that one before. But your parent unit is telling me stories about you when you were a child. You sound so cute!”

Cute? From the translation, the word did not come across as manly."

I would have appreciated if Evie had a bit more substance though. What Vork did quite well was set the premise for the second book, Lyel.

Brilliantly sly marketing strategy right there ;)

This was an enjoyable read, but the woman did NOTHING throughout the entire book. It was a quick, easy read, with a few laughs and plenty of hot sex, but absolutely no content in my opinion. Any “development” happened in minutes and was less of a development and more of a quick change of mind. I will not be reading the next book. I want more substance to the stories I read.

Smutty alien rom-com at its finest! 4.5 stars...

Ava Ross is a fairly new to me author, but I have quickly come to love her writing style and characters. There was so much understated alien humor here, and I loved all of the "awesome" jokes. The steamy smut was another great bonus as well that was nicely balanced by some angst and misunderstanding drama. Now I'm on to book two, Bryk and Sadie's story ♡

Merged review:

This was such a fabulous introduction to a series which I have come to love. I enjoy Ava's writing and alien humor so much; I love how she is able to showcase the differences between Crakair males and human customs. I absolutely recommend this entire series as you will not be disappointed ♡

Vork isn't really looking for a relationship but he's matched with Evie, an Earthling, and when they touch he get his matebond on his palm. Evie's not really sure about him as he is 7 foot tall, green skinned alien. Vork decides that he will produce a child with her and then get back to the stars. Then a rival challenges Vork and Evie is the prize. Will Vork give Evie up or fight to the death to claim her? I really liked this world of Crakair. I didn't expect to like this book so much! It was the perfect light read for my current mood! Vork and Evie's story was sweet, somewhat steamy and with the minimum dose of drama. I may read the next book in the series sometime soon.

It's like a cartoon. It's hard to really take the book serious as everything is like straight outta cartoon network. I can't deal with this.

I picked this up because the audiobook was free on Audible and Teddy Hamilton voiced the MMC. I didn’t have super high expectations, but I ended up having a pretty good time. The female voice actor had a kind of metallic-y tone, but I thought it actually worked with the alien/sci-fi setting.

This is book one in the Mail Order Brides of Crakair series and it was an wonderful read that I loved. It's a great start to a new series, it's a fast paced fated mates story with a great plot and story with a steamy romance and the characters Vork and Evie have a great chemistry that grabbed me and kept me reading. If you love hot alpha aliens and the heroines they love, fated mates, plenty of heat a HEA than this is a book for you.

A well written book, with a great plot! Loved it! It had some action, with lots of funny! My 2 favorite places was when they were at the restaurant and the plate of plant worms came. The other was with the swimming pool. I wished I had something like that! Silas is now living the life......
I can not wait for the next book in the series! I can not wait to see what happens between Vork's and Evie's friends....

This was an amazingly well-written story by one of my new favorite authors, Ava Ross. This book 1 in the Mail-Order Brides of Crakairt Series was intriguing as it had some very well-thought out scenes and story plots. These characters have very strong wills and personalities and their interactions are believable. This wonderful story has the following: intrigue, twists & turns, adventure, action, danger, love, steam and a HEA. It's a fast-paced and engaging from start to finish.

This is a well written, fated mate, happily ever after guaranteed book. I loved it, it has a feisty human female and a possessive hot as hell alpha male. After a drunken application for the selection, Evie gets chosen as Vorks mate. They have a few ups and downs and a vengeance which must be answered but they get their happy ever after ending eventually.

I love this story. I stayed up late just to finish it. The characters are awesome and the world that is created is wonderful. I liked that things were introduced seamlessly rather than bombarding the reader with tons of information about this new world. The villain is a true villain and their is a great happy ending. I love the stuff about Silas as well.

A little more alien than some of these I've read but it made it much better. I liked this alien world and its people a great deal. Vorks translator was so cute as well. They say there's always something lost in translation :)
I can't wait for Sadie to arrive in the next book.

Great read from start to end. Evie was selected as a mail order bride for another species that their women were nearly wiped out. Vork is an officer in their military and was placed in the program to find a bride by his mother. I love the way his mom welcomes her and takes her under her wing. Even though he didn't want a mate at first, he couldn't resist his attraction to her. Evie and Vork are a cute couple, hell he makes me want a damn alien with the touchy dreads and vibrating penis.

I got the chance to read an early draft of VORK and I loved it! If you're looking for a steamy, alien romance, look no further than Ava Ross' new series. It was a great quick read in a well-developed sci-fi world.

I love this book. I am new to this author and can't wait for the next one. Vork and Evie are great characters. Sleveka is hilarious in the fact she signed her son up for mail order bride. It was a great read. I can't wait for Bryk 's story.

I was gifted a copy by the author, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.

Okay, where to begin. First off, sexy aliens? Yep! Awesome and not creepy mother? Check! Fierce chick whoses not a damsel in distress? Yep! And lots of fun sexy times ;-).

You also have a awesome cat, new female friendships, overcoming adversity, humor, sarcasm and forgiveness.

Did I mention the hot and sexy aliens?

Definitely a fun read

I tried really hard to get into this, but I just can't. It starts really promising. I loved the first chapter and Evie has some great banter with her girlfriend as they discuss the bride lottery and give the reader the backstory for the plot. Sure, the whole "aliens having a human bride lottery" has been done to death, but the girls were fun, so I was willing to go along with the troupe again.

Unfortunately, as soon as Evie gets to Vork's planet, her character completely changes. She had gone over there thinking she might not actually go through with the marriage, but once she gets there, she's completely in, no doubts at all, without anything happening. And all her fun dialogue disappeared. Instead, she just talked about her cat. Seriously, TWO chapters to introduce first Vork to her cat and then his mother, and then all the time spent explaining to the aliens what kind of food the cat needs and what a litterbox is.

description

I thought all the communicator language mistakes were corny and annoying, too. Should have been dropped after a page or two. "Boobies" instead of "hobbies"? It was just weird, not funny.

I also couldn't get into Vork's character at all. All he does is think about how he wants to keep focusing on his career, but then he's surprised that he'd like to give it all up to be with Evie....after knowing her for ten minutes. It was too soon, so it didn't work. If you're going to make the alien the typical "I'm a super tough guy who'll never be controlled by my wife" character, you have to actually give him time to seem like that guy. You can't have him think he wants to do that and then in the next paragraph have him get angry at himself for wanting to fall in love with his wife.

And then we got to the "drama" with the baddie which felt ridiculous and forced.

I just don't care enough about this. The characters aren't interesting enough, and the story isn't pulling me in. It's all a bunch of misunderstandings and the heroine being afraid of everything. If there had actually been some kind of relationship building instead of the instalove, if the cat stuff and cheesy communicator issues had been left out, and if the fight to the death or whatever wasn't started over something so ridiculous, I might have been able to keep going....but that was the bulk of the story so far, so this is just not a good fit for me.

This book was terrible. I was hoping for something akin to Strange Love and unfortunately this was not it. It wasn’t even overly bonkers, which I would like to have if I’m reading an alien romance.

I don’t even think I’m going to go into all the reasons I disliked this book, I’ll just say I did not like it, do not recommend.

This audio was free with the audible membership. It’s such a cute story, very low angst. A very easy listen. I finished it in 2 days! The female narrator is as a little rough in the beginning. I’m intrigued enough to immediately start the next one.

3.5⭐️

This book is pure chaos in the best way. Alien mail-order bride? Check. Giant green warrior with feelings? Obviously. And Silas the cat, stealing every scene like the smartest character in the galaxy.

The plot is ridiculous, the romance moves at warp speed, and it’s fun. There’s real potential here and some surprisingly great world building hidden beneath all the nonsense.

It’s weird, messy, and definitely not to be taken seriously.

Fun, hot read

A really fun and steamy read. I love the paranormal world and the spin of the ladies volunteering to be taken- its a nice change up to the abduction spin. Ava did a great job creating the world and having a good story (even with funny and cute moments!) along with great steam. I think I saw somewhere this was a slow burn but I'd say it's more of a medium since the pace was not too drawn out, which are my fave .
