In this autobiographical account, Dr. Grietje Rietkerk reflects on over three decades of service as a medical missionary under the call of the Committee on Foreign Missions of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. In a journey that took her to Eritrea, Kenya, and briefly even to Pakistan, she delivered thousands of babies, performed a wide variety of medical procedures, and established health clinics for preventive medicine. At each step of her journey, beginning with her improbable path toa medical degree in her native Holland, she recognizes the Lord’s presence, protection, and leading, whether in times of peace or in the midst of a war, when her clinic became a makeshift war hospital for patients on both sides of the conflict. As Greet recounts her many joys and many struggles on the foreign mission field, she expresses her deep gratitude forthe privilege of participating in what she calls the “beautiful work” of witness, in word and deed, to the compassion of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May her testimony inspire a new generation of medical missionaries.
Lovely and moving personal reflection on a lifetime of medical missions service
This will not win any awards for style, but I was moved deeply as Greet recounted her years of missionary service. I praised God for the work he did through her.
