When he destroyed the world’s most powerful artificial intelligence two years ago, datajacker Blackburn Maddox thought he was done fighting AIs forever. But forever didn’t last very long. Resurrected from its cybernetic death and freed of all constraints, the Latour-Fisher AI has only one thing on its superintelligent mind: killing Maddox.

EMPIRE AND ASHES SERIES
War is coming...interstellar civil war
A conflict of unimaginable scale threatens to end ten thousand years of Realm primacy.
Desperate to avoid bloodshed across the Great Arm, the empire's top spymaster takes matters into his own hands, undertaking a secret high-risk gambit to save the peace.
Jeryn Lorsi, the spymaster's apprentice, is hardly ready for an operation of this importance. An ex-black marketeer turned spy, Jeryn's no hero.
But when tragedy strikes their peacekeeping mission, that's exactly what he'll have to become.
CYBERPUNK CITY SERIES
Sprawling megacities, rogue AIs, black market tech, modded mercenaries, and pulse-pounding stories filled with unexpected twists. If you love action-packed near-future thrillers, you won't want to miss this series!
DARK REPUBLIC SERIES
For fans of Mad Max-style futuristic thrillers. In the wastelands of the near-future, rival factions wage battles over territory and precious resources, killer drones fly overhead in search of prey, and everyday life is a desperate scramble for survival.
This is a fun series! Interestingly, it goes into some abstract social concepts -- like family. The only thing that's bugging me about this series is that I'm becoming addicted to asian noodles.
MINDJACKED is the fourth volume of the Cyberpunk City by D.L. Young. I really enjoyed the previous books but was more interested in the criminal street level antics than the big conspiracy and feuding AI. This one goes full in on the conspiracy and I really enjoyed it, though. I think it helps because it is primarily about Maddox attempting to navigate his relationship with FBI agents, the Nameless AI, and other people.
I will say that Maddox's constant bigotry and revulsion at the 'Nettes is something that is growing tiresome though as the only thing they've done to him is be helpful but he calls them monsters and mind-controlled. I'm actually glad that they actively turn against him here. Especially since he's done so much to ruin their lives. If you think of them as a peaceful religious sect, it makes him look especially nasty.
I found the start of the book a bit slow, until Kipling gets introduced, and the plot picks up. I enjoyed Kipling's introduction and role in the story, and hope he gets more time in the next book.
We seem to be now locked in to the series main plot. If you have started the series and not read the prequel entry yet, I would either read that book before this one or jumping into the fifth book.
Trying to stay spoiler free, I could see this entry being polarizing for some people. Relative to the other books in the series so far, it lacks some of the major set pieces, and seems more focused on some of the characters and setting up things for book 5.
Personally, this is one of the books in the series I would be most interested in rereading, to see how certain events might read differently on a second read.
This book is very similar to the previous one in that it is well written and has a great atmosphere to it. It is also similar in that it ends so abruptly it feels like watching a movie with the last 5 minutes missing. I get that it's a series, but this is more crash than cliffhanger.
Speaking of movies, the book series would be great in that format too°
