It was very difficult to figure who the audience is supposed to be. The author frequently shifts between writing to someone who knows nothing about Christianity, someone who is skeptical, and someone who is a believer. The author clearly wants to share her testimony, but is probably trying to accomplish too much in this book to make her story understood. She shares information about mental health diagnoses and symptoms which is very inaccurate. I think she is sharing her understanding based on her own therapy and not from real research. The narrative isn’t easy to follow, it jumps quickly from personal account to what “you” or “we” need to do to get passed traumatic experiences in childhood. I am not sure if an editor was used, I am not much of one to really care too much, but there were many grammatical and word usage errors that were actually distracting. I do think the author has come through a lot, I wish I could give it more stars, but I simply could not.

Growing up in Las Vegas, so much of Paula’s story resonated with me. As she shares from her experiences, it’s as though as her reader, I am walking along with her as she points out where each event took place. As I read her book, it was like she was sitting with me and talking to me over coffee. Yes, she shared her pain and trauma, but she also shared her hope—the hope she found in Jesus Christ. She writes of discovering her identity in Jesus and learning of the true love she found in her Heavenly Father. With joy, she expresses that being restored to wholeness is possible through the love of Jesus Christ. No matter what trauma you have experienced, Cross Addicted will bless and encourage you to never give up. With God, all things are possible.

This book hits the mark. Pula Jauch, the author, understands and brings into clarity the issues of addiction, family history, forgiveness, and healing.
Required reading for any family or family member that is going or has gone through the process of addiction and becoming free.
Thank you for writing and being brutally frank in what you have to say. With God, all things are possible.
