Being a mom is HARD—don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The first few months (or let’s be real, 18 years) after bringing a new baby home can be tiring and messy. Mothers need encouragement, inspiration, and a good laugh. You Got This, Mama!: From Boobs to Blowouts, a Survival Guide for New Mothers is a visual guide to new motherhood with illustrated quotes, hilarious infographics, and encouraging thoughts to power new moms through another day. Real, honest, and beautifully designed, this is the guide for moms that we didn’t know we needed.
This is a short & sweet intro to motherhood and what to expect when your life suddenly upends.
It contains a few inspiration quotes to get through the tough times, short paragraphs about need-to-know information and lovely infographics about what-to-do with all that poo.
I liked the balance between lighthearted humor and a bit more serious take on life.
I enjoyed how the author frequently interjects tidbits she's learned over the years - and one of my faves is what to do when you are overwhelmed with a crying baby.
There's this impulse to drop everything (even when you are drop-dead-exhausted) to try to "help" but as Liz says in this book - it is important to take a moment, steady yourself and then jump in to help with the baby.
I feel like that applies not just to motherhood but universally to life's stressors - take care of yourself, then tackle the problem.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I'm definitely going to be remembering this info!
With Thanks to Familius for sending this one my way
A coworker handed this to me, mostly because of the cute cover. But I brought it home to see what else it had inside.
This book was cute, and affirming, and empowering. It was broken into sections for different pieces of new parenthood, and the first page of each was a little affirmative note, followed by short reminders, cheers, and tips.
Swenson acknowledges how hard parenthood is, especially in those first few months, but also that women are strong and you can get through those hurdles. Also, that you shouldn't forget to take care of yourself even as you do your best trying to figure out how to keep this new human you birthed alive.
Not overly sappy or silly, I love the shortness and balance struck here. Lots of great advice and tips folded into reminders to just keep going.
I wish I had this book when I was pregnant with my first child! It is a funny, easy to digest, body positive book that tackles all of the major mama experiences you will have and struggles you will face. It's like having a loving, non-judgmental, and supportive friend always at your fingertips. The first year parenting book that every mom needs to feel empowered to do her best!
4.25! I liked all the information in bite-sized bits and graphics; loved the chapters on poop, breast-feeding and sleep. I wish there had been a little bit more useful info and less inspirational quotes, but overall I really enjoyed this book and have a feeling I will be returning to the poop/breast-feeding/sleep sections after the baby is born!
This book doesn’t have a lot of substance BUT it has the cutest graphics and words of encouragement and I feel like it’s just what I needed being a month into motherhood. This would be such a cute gift for your bestie when they have their first baby.
Really short and sweet coffee table style book on the important stuff. The inspirational quotes and phrases were really touching and inspiring. It was an easy read, but it was so helpful to be reminded about the important stuff 2 months postpartum.
Adored this book. Just the type of light hearted but super helpful read to make me feel more prepared for motherhood. Already ordered one for my pregnant bestie🫶🏼
