Non-fiction as magical as fiction, reading De Bairacli Levy's radical vision of peace is like drinking from the cleanest mountain stream. Read it if only for the poetry:

"And you shall have a tiny house,
A beehive full of bees,
A little cow, a largish cat,
And green sage cheese."
- Kate Greenaway

If you enjoy this book, I highly recommend The Yellow on the Broom by Betsy Whyte.

This book offers a treasure of descriptions of many of the life ways of nomadic people. Practical tips for living simply and a view of the world that offers a kind of ground for my own life, different as it may be from the one she shared with gypsies. The voice is kind toward living things and stringent towards any form of insensitivity that threatens the vulnerable ones or dishonors the delicate balance of nature. I will use her knowledge thankfully in my own efforts at simple living in a tiny house or yurt. The dear company of others who share the love of this kind of life can be found by reading her stories. There is another of her books that tells the stories; this one gives real life suggestions for living the life. I've enjoyed finding this!

A fascinating book about a woman, Juliette, born into an upper middle class family in England, who studies veterinary science, and then decides that she wishes to wander around the world like a nomad. She travels with Afghan hounds. She meets up with gypsies and learns much from them. She becomes well versed in herbs and goes onto several books on the subject. I found it very enchanting and unlike anything I've read about before.
