Each of these books has a perfectly-plotted mystery with wonderful characters. The Inspector Graham book is about an Inspector's transfer to a small town in England and the solving of a murder there. The Inspector is a complex and intelligent character. The Reverend Annabelle book is more of a cozy mystery and is also in England. The Diana Hunter book is darker and has a lot more action. A smart, sassy woman who kicks butt. This one takes place in Vancouver. The Roxy Reinhardt book is a cozy mystery that takes place in New Orleans. Roxy has a lot of depth and has some interesting relationships with the other characters and with the city. Lots of humour in this book. I enjoyed all of these books!

I have read all the books from all the series in this sampler and just loved them all. Here is the review on this boxset.
The Case of the Screaming Beauty
A puzzling murder at the beautiful Lavender Bed and Breakfast run by Cliff and Amelia in Chiddlinghurst, England! But then Norah Travis, a beautiful young woman, has been found murdered in one of their rooms. Inspector David Graham is called in to investigate this murder. There are several suspects, each could be the killer, but with the web of lies and deceit this is very puzzling. The story keeps you involved and is hard to put down wanting to know what they will find to prove who did it.
Great read and I love the characters.
Death at the Cafe
I really enjoyed this book. The two characters Reverend Annabelle & Sister Marty are delightful. They are two very different people who have been friends for a long time and they just seem to get in the middle of trouble all the time. The first death happens when Annabelle is meeting Mary and they become suspects. Then the next death is when they are together and for sure are suspected of the murder. It was hard to put down this book because you just wanted to find out who done it. It was a fun read with some humor mixed in.
Hunted
I Loved this book. It is about a family in Canada, Father is a Police Officer, working mom, and the daughter moving to live at school. Then a bad thing happens and the family is torn up by this unexpected happening....(do not want to spoil what happens.) So this is the beginning of what happened to the Hunter Family. Lots of action and twist. Looking forward to the next book
Snatched
Diana is taking a run and comes upon a man sitting on a bench. Then she remembers he was there before she started her run so goes to check if he is OK. Turns out he is Dead. Then the handsome detective shows up and after talking to Diana more or less implies she might be the killer. Well sparks fly and these two are at it for sure....
This is a fast passed page turner and you just don't want to put it down because you want to know what is going to happen next. Lots of twists, turns and even a kidnapping. Oh and of course there is also the organ harvesting.. Is there a black market for organs?
Also, was it suicide or murder that took one of the Hunter family members?
Mardi Gras Madness
Roxy is a customer service operator for a washing machine company. She gets a call from a very abusive customer who has her almost in tears. So she says just a minute and puts him on hold to collect herself. When she gets back on line he has hung up. She gets a new call and within minutes her boss comes storming into the room glaring at Roxy. The man from the last call told the boss she hung up on him and is dismissed for the day and told she would be called if she decided to keep her on. At home later Roxy saw a TV as for New Orleans and decided to go for awhile and check It out. She stays at a place that looked good in the ad but was just not what the ad showed. She got to know the people there and was glad to be there even though there was talk about the owned selling out and the building was going to be torn down. The group from the hotel and friends went to a parade and found out the next morning the developer who was going to buy the hotel was found dead in the graveyard near there. Lots of twists, turns and speculation on who did it. The sheriff and the hotel owner had history for not getting along and he made it sound like he suspected her when questioning the people. This book was hard to put down wanting to know who really did it. Another great book by Alison Golden. Looking forward to the next one.

Alison Golden Mystery Sampler - a review by Rosemary Kenny

5 great books by the incredible Queen of Cozy Mysteries, Alison Golden, that you won't want to miss out on:

1)The Case of the Screaming Beauty - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Detective Inspector David Graham is summoned to the country weekend retreat venue The Lavenders, after Nora Travis is found mysteriously dead in her bathroom. With suspects very thin on the ground, DI Graham finds it hard to know where to start the investigation.
Several red herrings and confusing clues later, he rises triumphant from the chase and the culprit is unmasked and apprehended, to let justice take its course.

A definite 'must' for cozy-mystery and Agatha Christie's Miss Marple fans alike!

2) Death At the Café - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A great introduction to the main character, Reverend Annabelle Dixon, this book is a charming, gentle whodunit and a worthy addition to the library of any Cozy Mystery fan.

The cafe in question is the meeting place of Reverend Annabelle and her old friend Sister Mary who's on a fund-raising mission from a convent in West Africa. Murder and mayhem ensue instead of the cosy tea and cupcakes that Annabelle anticipated with joy.
Things go even further awry, when another of Sister Mary's friends is murdered - leaving Mary as the prime suspec
A 'saintly' mystery by the talented Alison Golden...put the kettle on and 'tuck in' to find out how!

3) Hunted - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Diana Hunter's genesis as a CSIS agent in Vancouver, (following the murder of her parents) begins in this smart, well-paced novella from the pen of the talented author Alison Golden.
Although termed a 'cozy mystery', Diana's burgeoning career follows the apparent suicide of her mother Lydia - which is greeted with disbelief by the whole family, seems initially to be anything but.

Ms Golden's Hunted has an intelligent plot, suspenseful scene-building and character development which will keep the eager fan (of murder-mysteries with a feisty female protagonist), turning pages and waiting impatiently for further offerings in the Diana Hunter series...Book 1 is already a guaranteed winner!

4) Snatched - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Ex-reporter Diana Hunter is out for a jog, when she's unexpectedly involved in a bizarre murder case, literally on her own Vancouver doorstep.
After reporting the gruesome find and resenting the way she's sidelined by Detective Pete Hopkins who takes the lead on the investigation
Diana soon ends up in deadly peril from an unscrupulous gang who have a very unusual product for sale to the highest bidder.

A slick, quick thrill of a read you won't forget in a hurry - more please!

5) Mardi Gras Madness - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Death at the Café (A Reverend Annabelle Dixon Cozy Mystery Book 1)
The Reverend Annabelle Dixon, Sister Mary from Africa, two murders, stolen priceless gems, possible corrupt church leadership with ties to the local police. Can these two ladies clear themselves of murder and redeem their reputations. Or will their reputations go down the toilet along with the reputations of their two churches? This is a heartwarming story with a good bit of humor mixed in. A great story that was well written with nicely developed characters to start a new series with.

Hunted (A Diana Hunter Mystery Book 1)
When Diana Hunter learns that her mother committed suicide, she started to implode and not care about anything. When she learns it was actually murder, she helps to set about finding who killed her and made it look like a suicide. When her father and his partner are also killed checking out a clue they had found. Diana separates herself from her one true friend, and sets out to find her parents killers on her own.

Snatched (A Diana Hunter Mystery Book 2)
After her morning run, Diana checks on a man who was asleep by a tree near her home when she first started her run. When she discovers him to be dead, the lead investigator makes Diana the main suspect.

The Case of the Screaming Beauty (An Inspector David Graham Mystery Book 1)
A good mystery set in a B&B in the English countryside. With hints of an Agatha Christie style solve.

Mardi Gras Madness (Roxy Reinhardt #1)
What do you do when you lose your job, your boyfriend left you the same day, and you really have nothing else going for you at that time. If you're Roxy Reinhardt, you see an advertisement on TV for New Orleans, Louisiana. You pack a suitcase, your cat (Nefertiti), hop on a bus and go on an adventure.

Roxy is staying at a run down hotel with great bones, an excentric owner that can cook like nobody's business, a top of the line Baker who supplies pastries and friendship, a handyman that can fix almost anything, and a medium who does free readings for the guest, among others.
When Evangeline announces she is selling to a developer, nobody can believe it. The next morning, the developer is found murdered. The owner and all the guests are suspects.

This was a great and well told story, it has well-defined characters, a good bit of humor, and a bit of suspense. It was a great start to a brand new series coming from an author that I have admired and followed for several years now.

Alison Golden has a new starter library out. Mardi Gras Madness has been replaced with a new Roxy Reinhart prequel called Buckeye Breakout. This is a review for that book.

In Buckeye Breakout, we meet Roxy as a twenty one year-old woman living with her horrible mom in a trailer park in Ohio, & we discover how she got her beloved cat Nefertiti, as well as her taste for solving mysteries.

Roxy takes a job at a thrift store with a very demanding boss. Her first task is to pick up the belongings of a recently deceased woman, & unpack them at the store. All by herself. In her own car. Among the belongings is a box of journals belonging to the woman, named Mae. Roxie can't believe Mae died with no relatives, & finding a clue in the journals & a few old photos, sets out to unite Mae's things with her rightful heirs, minus a cute kitten that latches on to Roxie.

I really enjoyed this prequel. Roxie is young & lacks confidence, partly because her mother blames Roxie for ruining her life. Roxie's mom believes she was destined for better things, until she got pregnant with Roxie. Roxie's thrift store boss Gemma is a larger than life woman who basically leaves Roxie to take care of the store while she goes off to who-knows-where, swooping in periodically to check on things for a moment, before leaving again to do who-knows-what.

I loved Roxie's discovery of the journals & the adventures she reads in them, & of her determination to find a relative of Mae's. We also see the first spark of independence & determination that we see in later Roxie Reinhart mysteries, as she grows more confident.

If you haven't discovered Alison Golden's clean cozy mysteries yet, this sampler box set is a great way to start! In fact, you're in for a treat - and about to be sucked in to her worlds for the foreseeable future of your reading, with (currently) around 30 books in the various series, and all as enjoyable as each other. Inspector Graham of the Jersey Police is one of my favourite sleuths ever, Diana's world of spies and spying is as exciting as James Bond's, you've never met a vicar like our Annabelle and Roxy's hotel is in the musical world of New Orleans. I hope you enjoy them all as much as I am!

This fun boxset is an intro to four different series by Alison Golden. From a revrend who gets tangled in mysteries, to a super spy betrayed by those near and dear to her, to a sort of community & garden themed mystery series, and to a New Orleans transplant.

Amazingly different and unique stories in very different series.

The characters are colorful with crazy tangled connections. Strong women, lots of humor in various forms, serious themes mixed within.

A great value introduction to some fantastic reading!

Alison Golden has re-set her Sampler - Chaos in Cambridge, The Case of the Screaming Beauty, Mardi Gras Madness and Hunted (90/152/232/139).

The stories are mainly short. Sometimes you guess the guilty person; sometimes you don't.

Fun to read
