"If my upbringing impressed on me the strength of our democracy, it also showed me, time and again, how quickly a law-based moral order can collapse if good people do nothing."I recently saw ex-FBI agent Peter Strzok interviewed on a 'Burn the Boats' podcast episode on YouTube and, as a result, wanted to read his memoir. Here's the thing: so much crap is displayed on the political landscape on a daily basis (quite otten now on an hourly basis) that it can be a challenge maintaining more than a cursory understanding of what's being trotted out.
... the majority's members increasingly filled their time with statements and assertions rather than questions, preventing me from correcting their misstatements and challenging their false accusations. When I attempted to respond, the chairman told me I could not, since a question had not been asked. Great, I thought, Alex Trebay's 'Jeopardy!' rules of parliamentary procedure. Lies can be lies , so long as they're not couched in a question.~ and then - more or less in short order - Strzok was largely gone from public view, fired from the FBI... and the MAGA mob moved on, looking to keep us all distracted with the next opportunity for mindless chaos and abject terror.
"Understand that we don't have a truly equal system of justice. . ...Some crime is too complex, and with enough money and political clout, the bad guys can bury us, or just wait us out. Worse... with enough power, they can find ways to make the injustice legal. Don't forget that."Gee... not unlike what the SCOTUS has just done with its 'total immunity' decision (among other equally heinous decisions).
Because the Russians haven't gone away.
