Vamos a ver...

2nd read:
Reading Vlog: https://youtu.be/GCFopiHFdg8
That game of tag takes me out every time. Sister Krone has set up camp in my nightmares and she's not leaving any time soon.

description

1st read:
The more I learn about this world and it's characters, the more I love them and the more terrified I become.

This is genuinely scary. Maybe it's just me? But Sister Krone's face is never leaving my night terrors. The way she watches the kids from the distance is enough to give me goosebumps.

Ahhhh, the satisfaction of reading a sequel to a book you really liked and enjoying it just as much as the first one 😌😌🤌🤌

The Promised Neverland Vol 2 is, as you can probably tell, the sequel to the Promised Neverland Vol 1. It’s obviously very hard to explain the plot of this one without spoilers but it basically continues Emma, Norman and Ray’s journey as they continue to uncover more and more dark secrets.

I was kinda worried that I wouldn’t like this as much as Vol 1, but it was just as entertaining and easy to read!! I don’t know what drug the author put into this manga, but I read it in one sitting. Which I basically never do. So by that fact alone, you can tell I enjoyed this!!

Tbh my feelings on this one and Vol 1 are basically the same. LOVED the mystery and the development of it in this volume was really well done- once again, so many surprising twists and turns!! The plot is super fast-paced and I would say it was probably a bit more eventful in this one than Vol 1. I still really like the art style, it’s super cutesy and fun. Definitely no complaints there!!

I’m happy to say that I did start to like the characters a bit more in this volume. Emma’s actually a really great protagonist and I love her spunk and determination. Still have mixed feelings about Norman, but Ray’s definitely an interesting character! We also start to learn a bit more about the side characters in this volume, which was cool.

Overall, such a great read!! Just like Vol 1, it’s got:

✔ Awesome art style
✔ Thrilling plot
✔ Super cool and original premise
✔ Great mystery with so many twists and turns!!

So far, this series is just great. I definitely hope I’ll be able to get my hands on the third volume soon!!

~ 4 stars

Just as good as the first book!! I really enjoyed it 🤩🤩🥰🥰

Sí, efectivamente me he dado cuenta que el punto fuerte de la historia son esos plot twist interesantes.

Aunque el halo de misterio y suspenso tiene lo suyo también.

A Peter Pan retelling like you've NEVER seen before!! Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.

The Premise

In The Promised Neverland vol 2 Emma, Norman and Ray decide to take on two assistants. The problem is there is a traitor among them! And with that several problem crop up that will make it difficult to escape with everyone even though that is Emma's greatest desire. Krone isn't taking anything lying down either. She wants to beat Isabella so bad. Hahaha this was a great turn of events and I found it hilarious because i actually accept Mother a whole lot more than Krone's raging greed.

The highlight of the volume though is the traitor!!! Woah... I was blown away... this changes EVERYTHING! Even though they set a day for the escape there is a whole lot that could go wrong... and their newest recruits could totally be the problem!! It's a risk taking on more hands but I have every faith in Emma, Norman and Ray.

The Buzz

I totally fell for this Peter Pan retelling in just the first volume! It's like no other retelling that I've ever read. In fact, it took me several days of pondering the name to realize what it was. So to say I was excited for The Promised Neverland vol 2 is an understatement. Such anticipation is sure to bring disappointment, but NOT IN THIS VOLUME!

I was justifiably worried that the twists would peter out but they actually were even more explosive. I don't want to talk about many more details because part of the fun of this series is the small victories as they overcome major setbacks.

The Feels

Norman blew me away in this volume. He does read like a Sherlock Holmes prodigy and I LOVE every frame of it!! That is a strategist for you... And he asks the best questions of Emma! I really love that while there is no romance I totally feel the bond between our three protagonists.

Emma though also had her moment to shine with a decision about the traitor. This totally impressed me!! Sure she subverts the typical female tropes, but does so while also wholly being a girl I TOTALLY love and adore because of her care for others.

Ray certainly has his role in the series but he took a distinct back seat to Norman and Emma... until The Promised Neverland vol 2!! WOW! I loved that he lingered in the background up until now because it made for an explosive volume.

We've focused so much on Emma, Norman and Ray with their shining intellect and abilities that it was intriguing to see how other kids measure up. Gilda surprised me by capturing my heart so firmly with her reaction to their announcement. And Don! His new goal is heartbreaking...

The Visuals

The Promised Neverland vol 2 is not nearly so horrorish as the first volume (if you don't enjoy horror, don't worry this is perfect for you). I expect that element to come and go with our villains... but it does retain its creepy vibe. I LOVE Posuka Demizu's wonderfully detailed character reactions!! Woah! They maintain just the right atmosphere even though there aren't any horror bits. Each character shines in the art... Norman with his fear come alive, Ray with his big reveal and Emma with her warning to the traitor.

The Promised Neverland vol 2 continues this creepy Peter Pan retelling! Emma, Norman and Ray deal with a traitor while trying to recruit assistants to their cause... How will they react?! Well it totally changes everything!! But Emma may end up having to leave everyone behind...!?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

This is a multi-volume series and there may be references to the plot of those volumes... SO READ WITH CARE! Here is my review of 1 | 2 | 3 |

¡susto! Hermana Krone a la vista.
¡Deseando saber más cositas de esta saga!

Chapter 8. I HAVE AN IDEA
Finally they are one step closer to their goal. And now Ray is going to find a way to disable the tracker. Sounds exciting and complicated. Emma also have another way to train everyone without them knowing they are being trained. Wohoooo. Their teamwork is indeed impressive.

Chapter 9. LET’S PLAY TAG
Wow. Sister Krone has amazing physical strength. Well it is so visible though. But she is certainly scary. She is able to catch everyone so easily with all her tricks! Though she is outwitted! Finally an adult that Norman and Ray can outwit.

Chapter 10. CONTROL
Norman, Ray and Emma are just exceptional!! They think all possibilities and do all strategies they can think. The sad thing for this chapter is that they concluded that there is indeed a traitor among them!!! Emma could hardly believe it. To think that one of the family betrays you. Then they finally decided when they will carry out their plan!

Chapter 11. TRAITOR, PART 1
Finally! The traitor is making their move. Norman is always sharp in his strategies especially in knowing the traitor. Then Gilda is in Sister Krone’s room. OMG. Lol though I know what happen it is still sad to think that someone will betray from your family. It is also good to see that they are finally trying to inform everyone of the situation.

Chapter 12. TRAITOR, PART 2
The ending is indeed shocking. Who would have thought they are the traitor? Gosh Norman is just extremely clever!!! He knows what he is doing. Finally the others are clear of suspicion but the traitor is just a surprise! Sister Krone is also becoming Gaga in trying to find evidence. Lol. She is really determined to be a “Mom” of Grace field. Well I adore her determination but she is becoming a pain.

Chapter 13. TRAITOR, PART 3
So the traitor is Ray. It is shocking indeed! I love how Norman really cares for Emma’s opinion and how he thinks of a way to use every opportunity he has to their benefit while keeping Emma’s words in mind. He is such a great person. As for Ray, yes he is being cautious of his actions but he cannot escape Norman, the smartest of them all. Well at least they are clear on their situation now.

Chapter 14. TRUMP CARD
Yesss. They indeed have a trump card. Thankfully Ray cooperated with them but for how long though? Still it is a great idea. I just feel sorry for Ray for all he had been through. He tried his best to preserve his life knowing the truth about their existence and the house. He sacrifice a lot just to get information and to prepare their escape. He is indeed very clever.

Chapter 15. NEVER AGAIN
Ray being straightforward like the way he is in this chapter is funny. His honesty is shocking and yet convenient in this chapter. It is good that they are all in this together even though Ray is a double spy. Kind of risky but the way he cares for Emma and Norman is touching.

Chapter 16. THE SECRET ROOM AND WILLIAM MINERVA, PART 1
Finally! They notice there is a secret room and discuss it with everyone who knew. It is just great. Their teamwork is paying off and they are all exchanging informations which helps a lot in their progress! Wow. Great.

-Read for 2019 YA Reading Challenge-

This volume wasn't as much fun or quite as startling as the first one. It certainly tried to be exciting and throw us a couple twists, but the didn't land as well. I think the bigger problem I had was this was kind of a slow crawl towards whatever is supposed to be happening. The circle of protagonists gets a little bigger in this volume and there are more complications, but it still felt too long.

The art in this book is generally great. It's detailed, it's got an energy that helps move everything along, etc. I will say that I thought the character of Sister Krone is depicted in a borderline offensive manner. Everything is just over the top and pushes towards stereotyped. It's pretty far removed from me personally, but it raised an eyebrow.

Certainly picking up the next book as I'm hoping that the next "chapter" of the story propels us forward more than this one did. It's fine that they are building dramatic tension, but we need some kind of pay off.

Promised Neverland sticks to it's over dramatic and "escape" feel, which is great.

So now that we have the plan to get out of the crazy house, we have to begin the steps to do it. The biggest step being that we have to figure out how to get all the kids out of the house. Emma decides to begin training the kids in a game of tag and this helps make the kids move at a better pace. At the same time the other maid is trying to hunt them down while pretending to play as well. Ray has a big moment as well here that comes off rather shocking.

The series is a lot of fun. Moving at a quick pace, with plenty of shocking moments. I think the best part about the story too is just when you think someone is smarter than the other, there's a new clue or moment. I think the only negative is the twist, the spy, is kind of obvious on appearance alone.

A game of cat and mouse continues as this series stays highly entertaining. A 4 out of 5.

THAT FUCKING PLOT TWIST THOUGH. 10/10👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I swear, Norman and Ray must be two of the smartest, most cunning and mature 11 y. o. fictional characters I’ve ever seen. I LOVE all the scheming, spying, snooping around, outsmarting and outplaying going on in this volume. Absolutely amazing.

This second volume was even better than the first if that’s possible. The Promised Neverland has taken the place of Orange as my favorite manga series. I suppose that could change over the next several volumes but going by the first two alone I really don’t think it will.

The twists kept coming in this one- I felt that I should have seen some of them but I didn’t. The author is really good at distracting you by what’s happening front and center while sneakily pulling the wool over your eyes without you even realizing it.

I can’t wait to read volume 3!
