Betrayal wasn’t new to her. Paranormal wasn’t new to her.

Death wasn’t new to her. But love was!

Unlike others, Aayushi’s childhood was a horrible nightmare from which she wanted to escape soon. Stepping into the college, she found a new set of friends who brought all the happiness she had missed and she felt blessed. But it didn’t last long.

A birthday, which was meant to bring smiles, brought death; a birthday, which was meant for celebration, unfolded one terrifying truth; a birthday, which was meant to give delight, brought an uninvited guest and Aayushi’s life changed forever.

She can’t run away from the spirit; she can’t cheat the death; she can’t protect her friends, unless...

"The taste of betrayal is meant to linger for ever!"
- "13-A" written by Aparna Preethi K.

Have you ever wondered why children love their grandparents more than their parents?
Parents often focus on growing up a child but grandparents know how to make them grow in their own way. From telling variety of stories to chiding with love, the relationship between grandparents and children is a divine bless. Their bond has connected each other with immense love due to their childishness. And that's why we love and miss them more.

The story is very simple but I like how the author has written with the different plot constructions. It makes you to think the following questions which we might have thought at least once in our lifetime. It also makes you to believe that you are not the only one.
Why, the people we love always leave us in the middle of our life? Why the betrayal is always a part of our life? Why, life is full of surprises, mysteries and secrets? Why do we always trust someone blindly and regret for that later? Why is the truth always bitter? Why do expectations always hurt? Why do fate, luck and curse play an important role in everyone's life?

The novel portrays the importance of relationships. The relationship between grandparents, parents and children, and other relations. The background of the novel is the typical scenario of Indian setting and lifestyle. But you can also find the theme of feminism in the novel. For example, Aayushi is like a "one-woman army". Her mom and her aunt are independent workaholic women.
The author has written in a very easy language. The novel is based on the horror-romantic fiction. She used all the horrific techniques that you need in a horror fiction which makes you to sit with a grib in the corner while reading. Also, for romantic part she used every cliches like in Indian romantic movies.
I like the way how the author wrote a quote in the beginning of each chapters. They are quite life quotes and so motivational.
I hope there will be a sequel to this part and the author may come up with even more interesting plots.

“With the death of a good, comes the birth of the evil”

The book basically whirls around the above quote. The debut novel 13-A of the author Aparna Preethi is a gripping love cum horror story. Aayushi, an innocent young girl experiences paranormal experience after her grandad’s death. And after a few years, when she thinks her life is going to get better, there again, she is traumatized by ghosts. The book ends when she has solved the problem again, however the author has not put a full stop and ended it but has put a comma and seeded for the sequel.

The one thing that the book tries to say is, not all ghosts are terrible as they sound. There is something more terrible than that, humans. The real demon lies there. The author has eeriness invested in the reader’s mind for every turn of a page. The story or the characters don't feel alien, but is legit and captivating. Every chapter has a subtitle pertaining to the content, which I felt is like chicken in dumplings, a surprise stuffing while eating the food. On the whole, the characters, the setting, the backstory, everything is well connected and are not unnecessary. Moreover, the most important point is that the novel doesn’t feel like a debut one and it should be one everyone’s TBR in the night pile.

THRILLS....KILLS...CHILLS
Not a minute I dropped the book before enjoying minute description of each scenes. The title 13-A thrilled & chilled my each neurons but thank God the face of charming girl warmed up my emotions. The warning note of captions at the beginning of each chapter & the twist and turn unending catastrophe added my goose bump.It is incredible to accept that it is your debut novel. All the best for your upcoming novels. As a book worm eagerly awaiting to chew the fresh leaves with well-knitted plot.

I'm proud to say that, this is the first horror book I've ever read and it is worth it. I bought this book a long ago, out of enthusiasm from the author, but didnt had the courage to read it to be honest 😅

Then, I took the book at night and thought why not read it now. Everytime I read something in the book, something started to change here and it started to rain with thunder and sometimes I heard someone scratching my door. My heart beat was high and the book started to vibrate until I finish the book 💀😐😅

I was planning to move to Bangalore and now I'm thinking of changing my decision 😅🙊

Are we getting part 2 of the book?
.
.
PS: Never read a horror book at night unless you have someone near you. I pity the person who was sleeping near me. I didn't leave them and squeezed them until they turned blue 😬😹😹
