I normally don't read this kinda tale but it totally drew me in. The intrigue and mystery leave you HAVING to turn the page. definitely a must read, just don't read alone :-)
Elizabeth Bell telegraphs the start of the plot for her novel with the elongated title, "The Hostage: Grab the Wrong Hostage and the Blood Spilled May Be Your Own." Her protagonist Vickie isn't a great person. She hooks up with the wrong guy, likely because she's had a crap life and parent who had no call to raise a kid. Vickie has potential, but she's surrounded herself with people who think crime can pay. They're not overly intelligent and not good intentioned. But like the title implies, there's payback for their sins. It comes quickly. Bell develops several of her characters pretty well, and the best may be the antagonist. The plot takes convention and gives it a bit of a twist. There's a remote cabin, creepy woods and a killer who knows how to torment his victims. But the author resists the urge to plow through too much familiar territory. Part of that is through Vickie. Turns out the meek, frightened girl who lets people walk all over her has a spine. She has spirit. That doesn't mean she's all that tough. Bell knows pacing and how to make her tale quite terror inspiring. The text needs some fine tuning edit wise but didn't distract me. I read the entire thing in one sitting. I had to. I had to know what happens.
A plan they thought was going to prefect bank robbery, in and out , take hostages to use as a way of keeping police from going in with guns blazing until they get to there hidden cabin in the wilderness..but one hostage isn't a normal everyday person, but a serial killer with love of the hunt and thrill of the chase. They hunters become the prey.
Aside from a few grammatical errors, I enjoyed this story. I had a hard time putting it down. It definitely brought to mind that saying, "don't judge a book by its cover". You never know what a person is truly capable of. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This book had a good plot line and good story. Unfortunately it was brought down by bad punctuation, bad grammar and by all the swearing. It seemed like all the characters were swearing, even when it wasn't warranted. I really wish I could give it more stars especially for the unique ending.
Wow what a story, not for the faint hearted, I am still stunned at the end. Sadly very realistic and the stuff nightmares are made off. The story line was exceptional and the characters well developed and easy to relate too. If you are sensitive to horror, murder and serial killers do not read this book. This book is sinister, emotional and scary (look under the bed and closet before going to bed) and so well done and worth the read if you can stomach it.

This is my first time reading anything from this author and I enjoyed reading this book. The author has come up with a good plot where there is action, suspense and plenty of emotion included, all of which means the reader is in for a wonderful ride.

I read this entire book in one sitting, I just had to know how it ended once I started. The author does an amazing job of writing realistic characters and what people may do in certain situations. The book was a mix of horror/psychological thriller and it was so good! Loved it!

I don't want to give away too much of this book. I had no idea as to how this book would go. I almost didn't read it. Boy, am I glad I did. If you want to read something with a thrill a minute do not pass this up. You will be shockingly surprised. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. I didn't want the book to end. It's just that good!
