Shifting into Love #1

Changing Gears

Rate this book
Lauren Moore is many things.

Cool around hot guys is not one of them.

Good thing the new mechanic at work is off-limits, or she might be in as much trouble as her family-owned bicycle shop.

Jake Chambers has hit a bit of a rough patch.

His broken leg is threatening not only his sanity, but possibly his Motocross career as well.

Lucky for him, the only thing he knows better than women is how to fix a bike.

Will good girl Lauren manage to keep her wits about her as she fights her growing attraction to bad boy Jake? Or will she find herself spinning her wheels when it comes to love?

If you enjoy romantic comedies with smart, awkward heroines and flawed heroes, you'll adore CHANGING GEARS. Because love is bumpy. Might as well enjoy the ride.

I got desperate for a quickie. Get your mind out of the gutter, not that kind of quickie. I wanted an easy read for a plane for ride, so I picked up Changing Gears (Shifting into Love Book 1), I guess it’s a series but I’m not reading any more books from author, Roseanne Beck.

Why, you may ask, do I refuse to immerse myself in more of Beck’s writing? Simple. Because it’s just not good. Look, I’m all for regular romances and what I mean when I say regular is normal people falling in love, but they must be somewhat interesting and the characters in her novel are just boring.

Protagonist Lauren Moore is quirky and maybe cute. I have no idea though since the author fails to describe her physical characteristics. She’s young but feels like she’s given up her a lot in her life for her family, I guess kind of an old soul. She and her sister are stuck running their father’s bike shop after he passes away and Lauren’s in charge of the finances of the business. She doesn’t really want to be at the shop at all until a sexy tattooed Motocrosser is hired.

This is where Jake Chambers appears in the picture or the shop. He’s an injured Motocross “athlete,” and has no other skills than racing until he’s offered a job repairing Schwinns at Lauren’s shop. Technically, they shouldn’t date since Lauren is Jake’s superior, but they do anyway. Shocker there. And then for some reason there is conflict and insecurities that eventually will be resolved. Perfectly predictable in every way but that’s what you’re going get when with a quickie. Never quality, only superficiality.

This is not my favorite novel. But I read all books even when they’re not good.

I enjoyed this romance story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Lauren Moore and Jake Chambers.

Lauren Moore and her sister are running their father's bicycle shop since his death. But when her sister's boyfriend that was also the mechanic of their shop leave. They are now without a mechanic.

Jake Chambers career as a Motocross has been put on hold  when he fall off his bike during practice. Now he not sure if he will heal all the way to go back to the career that he loves. While out with his sister at a bar that she took him to. He meet Lauren Moore and her sister. And find out that they are in need of a mechanic for there shop. Lucky is on his side because he knows how to fix bike.

This was a sweet story and also had a little bit of emotions throughout that story. There were also a few laughs that had me laughing at.  It is also the first book in a series.

I received a complimentary copy via Hidden Gem. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

I fell right into this book. There were so many laugh out loud moments in the story and the characters were sweet and entertaining. I couldn't wait to read the next crazy thing was going to come out of Lauren's mouth.

The book was very easy to follow. But, I did feel that some thoughts weren't fully completed. There were times that I felt certain moments just didn't transition well. Either way, I would definitely recommend this one.

This was a fun, sweet romance. There’s instant attraction between Lauren and Jake, and while they both want to take it further, they’re reluctant to do so. I loved Lauren’s charming awkwardness around an attractive specimen of the opposite sex. I’m sure there’s a bunch of us who can relate to her. I thought Jake was a sweetheart even though he was trying to hard to avoid his own issues. The way he shows Lauren how to get out of her comfort zone and spread her wings was perfectly adorable. I’m very looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen with Kylie and Spencer now.

3.5 read but not my style.

This book sounded promising. I don’t remember ever reading a book that was set in a bicycle shop. It was a fast easy read. If you like sweet, clean, fun romance books, this would probably be a good choice for you. I like more chemistry and steam in my books so this was not really my style. For everyone that complains about cheating, bad language, and too much graphic sex, pick up this one. I think you will enjoy it.

5/5 stars - this book was exactly what it promised to be. A light-hearted romance. It was an easy read, no real surprises, and I loved the characters from the first page. There was a little disconnect about Jake being such a bad boy and then changing so quickly, but that is part of what I love about light-hearted romances: the ease of it, and the happy ending. ❤️

I received a free copy of this book through Hidden Gems in exchange for my honest review.

A delightful PG15 tale of several people in their late twenties and how they overcome the obstacles in their lives, which can be read in about six hours. I received an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.

This book is a sweet breath of fresh air, which I breezed through. With a likable main character (who happens to share my name) and a swoony love interest - both of whom are perfectly flawed - there is a lot to love in this book.

Another laugh and love worthy story from Roseanne Beck. She never fails to add a character that makes me laugh hard. An enjoyable story that was a pleasure to read

Loved It

First page had me laughing and hooked. Not too much angst, and with two flawed and uncertain characters, lots of laughs and a good story too.

Cute rom-com that can be read in a short break. Lauren is shy around handsome guys and Jake is intrigued by her. Overall is a light read with an allusion to sexy times.

Loved this adorably sexy (but not smutty), light and funny book! It’s a quick and easy read with great writing that pairs a troublemaker at a crossroads in his life with an introverted good girl who is ready to live the way she wants for a change.

The story follows Jake, a professional motocross rider whose latest injury has put his career in jeopardy. A broken leg means he’s stuck living with his sister and unable to live life on the road like normal. When he’s offered a job working at a local bike shop, Jake is just excited to get out of the house - and possibly spend a little time with the cute owner. Lauren is a numbers girl, an introvert who finds Jake to be equal parts sexy and terrifying. She doesn’t know how to handle a guy who exudes so much charm and confidence, but as they get to know each other better, Jake’s walls start to come to down and they don’t seem so dissimilar after all.

I’ve got to thank Hidden Gems for providing me with an ARC of this light and refreshing romantic comedy. I never would’ve discovered this author on my own (I totally would’ve judged this book on its terrible cover), and now I’m hooked on the series. This is a complete standalone but the next book is definitely set up here and I’m excited to see what happens. The characters were great (loved Jake), the chemistry was obvious, and though there was nothing groundbreaking with the premise, it was fresh and interesting. It’s a slow burn with no explicit scenes but plenty of teasing. Definitely worth a read! I am voluntarily leaving a review of this adorable romantic comedy.

I received this book free as an ARC reader for review.

Lauren is an academic, a mathalete , who gave up a promotion at the college to help out her sister and the families bike shop after her father died. She’s all about long-term plans and is a serious over thinker.

Jake has never made a long-term plan in his life. After a motocross accident breakers his leg in 3 places he ends up recovering on his sister’s couch. Jake needs to do some serious thinking about his future, but in the meantime he takes a job in the local bike shop as a mechanic.

Can a brainiac and an adrenaline junkie find a way to balance each other out?

I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and I was really excited because it sounded really good. Love in a bike shop, how cute is that? This book is about Lauren who is working in her family's bike shop and Jake who is an injured motor cross rider. When the shop's mechanic quits Lauren and her sister hire Jake, what follows is instant attraction between Lauren and Jake and their "romance".
I was really disappointed in this one. I felt like this story was really lacking in chemistry, the characters read more like friends than lovers to me. Jake young nephew was very cute but he went from talking like a four year old to talking like an adult and that was a bummer.
Some positives the book was a quick read. I've never read a romance in a bike shop before. And for those of you who like smut-lite this book is sweet and doesn't have graphic sex scenes.

I was given an arc copy of this book for an honest review

Lauren and Jake couldn’t be more different. He’s a daredevil motocross athlete and she works part time at a college while helping to run her deceased dads bike shop paperwork side with her sister. On paper they are total opposites she gets tongue tied he has all the charm but these opposites seem to drawn towards each other and what follows is an extremely sweet and funny romance showing love is always when we least expect it

4.5 stars This rom com needs to come with the NSFC – Not Safe for Commuting – warning. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, which in my living room is great, but has won me some odd looks on the train in the morning! Roseanne is one of the funniest authors I know, but she never plays it all for laughs. Poor Jake is pretty successful but has some underlying insecurities. Lauren has always been the good girl of her family and friend group, and is chafing at the responsibility. On the surface, as with many of Roseanne’s couples, they don’t appear to have much in common. Can Jake help Lauren loosen up? Will Lauren’s expectations and faith be enough to make Jake believe he can be more? This light-hearted romp has some serious issues at its heart, but mostly it’s a sweet look at how opposites can make the world a brighter place. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review.

4-4.5🌟stars 🚴
💕This was a cute, sometimes heated romance enhanced by some great secondary characters like hero Jake's precocious nephew and heroine Lauren's karaoke-challenged, drama queen sister. Forbidden romance between a cycle repair shop owner and her new mechanic. I enjoyed it!😊

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This is the first book that I have read by this author but surely won't be the last.
She mixes humor and romance so well that you can't put it down.
The characters are humorous with normal faults.
The plot is comical that you lose yourself in the book.

This new series is off to a great start!

Roseanne Beck has become one of my go-to rom-com authors, her stories are funny, a little snarky, a little sexy, and her take on the "wounded" hero usually means that they poor guys are (getting) injured in one way or another...

Lauren and Jake are likeable and relatable main characters. I love that they are not perfect, but that they are still perfect for each other.
I also enjoy the family dynamics a lot - sometimes the situations are outright hilarious (Jake's nephew Reece and Lauren's Aunt Sheila have some of the best lines!), but it still feels genuine, and there's always a lot of heart (big kudos to Lauren and Jake's sisters, Kylie and Tracy!).

On top of all that goodness, there are also some pop culture references for those so inclined, but it doesn't take any of the fun away if you happen to miss them.

All in all, this is just my jam, and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Changing Gears is a warm, sweet and funny workplace romance. The well writtem characters have normal flaws and awkwardness. Jake's nephew Reece nearly steals the show! Lauren's sisters Kylie's romance with their bike shop mechanic ended badly so Kylie institutes a hands off the employees policy. Of course Lauren falls for Jake and feels she has to sneak around. Some drama and lots of laugh out loud moments occur as Jake and Lauren try to decide what their lives should look like. This book was very satisfying and fun to read. .I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romantic comedy.
