When Mat’s away, Bryce can play.
---
A good teacher never stops learning, and Bryce loves learning from Julián

On the fifth day his husband’s out of town, Bryce travels to D.C. to meet up with his favorite former student. But Julián’s changed a lot since he was a shy college freshman. He still has those big brown eyes and that adorable lisp, but he’s gotten a whole lot better at pursuing what he wants.

Join them for an evening of rekindling old memories, discreet touching, sneaking around in the dark, and straining against the ties that bind.

“Quick Study” is the fifth story in a series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. It’s perfect for lovers of older/younger pairings, affection, sex in public places, power exchange, light bondage, and topping from the bottom. 7500 words.
---
BRYCE CAN PLAY is a series of gay erotic shorts. Each story chronicles the adventures of Bryce, a sexy submissive slut in a non-monogamous marriage. Bryce has permission to play around while his husband’s out of town, so he’s cramming his week as full of sexual adventures as he can. With a little luck and a lot of can-do spirit, he’s going to make his husband proud while also earning a rigorous punishment.

These stories are for ADULTS who enjoy explicit depictions of gay sexual encounters. Some episodes are kinkier than others, but each explores the idea of power exchange and giving and taking control.

Travis Beaudoin

Having lived in Miami, Chicago, and NYC, Travis eventually ended up twenty minutes from where he was born, in Nowhere, Virginia, where the days are quiet and the stars are bright. He shares a big old farmhouse with his unbelievably supportive husband, a terrorist cat, and the world’s most neurotic dog.

He's nerdy about lots of things, including but not limited to classical rhetoric, the lives of the saints, Egyptian mythology, Shakespeare, contemporary fantasy, and the Muppets. Nevertheless, he is fun at parties.

He likes rainy days, long drives, and cuddling. He drinks more coffee than he ought.

Though it sometimes contains more plot and character development than is strictly necessary, he gets off on writing filthy gay erotica, usually with a light-to-moderate D/s edge.

He's active on Twitter (@beaudoin_travis) and checks Goodreads when he remembers to. Say hi if you're so inclined.

I can see the appeal, but this is definitely too much 'porn without plot' for me.
It also doesn't help for my enjoyment that Bryce is very clearly in love with his husband, and thus the encounter with Julián feels meaningless, empty and non-romantic. Once again, that is just a personal thing, though: I'm sure that if you're a fan of open relationships and such, this will not bother you in the slightest.

Another night, another man, another side of Bryce. It was easy to forget throughout Bryce's other encounters that during the day he was a professor with a PhD. I loved that dichotomy. It was a reminder of how little we truly know about the acquaintances in our lives and how easily we assume things about people based on the few things we do know. Bryce was educated, intelligent, esteemed and married. What would you assume?

Julian was a former student of Bryce's. He was absolutely adorable and was the only person thus far to seem even remotely bothered by the fact that Bryce was married. That boy was smitten. I wanted to know more about Carey from book three, but Julian was the first man I wanted to see find love outside of what he had with Bryce. Eh, maybe Theo too, but mostly Julian. He accepted what was being offered, but it was so obvious that he wanted more and it poked at my heart a little bit. So there's two, possible three, characters I need books for. Get to work, Mr. Beaudoin.🤣

I’m not sure how he manages to make an entire story in such a short little book but this is one of my favorites. I don’t want to say more to spoil it but I adore the connections he has with all of these men (ok except maybe Skye from the previous one 😂). I don’t want it to end!

sweet and sexy

Bryce sure has a variety of partners. Julien is super sweet in this installment. He’s probably one that I wouldn’t mind reading a repeat of.
Now onto part 6…

This next adventure is beautifully written, as usual, by the very talented, Travis Beaudoin.
So, the day after his encounter with bad boy, Skye, in the seedy motel room, Bryce drives to DC to hook up with a former student, Julián.
In the backstory, we learn how the two met as professor and student, and how the shy, sweet and compliant Julián registered on Bryce’s radar as someone who was crushing on him - the observation coming from his husband, Mateo.
We see Mat encouraging Bryce to have sex with Julián, but Bryce says he doesn’t sleep with his students. Fast forward 72 hours after Julián’s graduation, and Mat gets his wish!
This story is a complete turnabout from Bryce’s sexual escapade with Skye - he is back to the Bryce we know, gentle, loving, caring, and completely invested in having, and providing loving fun with someone he likes and cares about.
Matt had expressed surprise in the past that Bryce and Julián never seem to do role play - but, today, Bryce feels that being dressed as a professor (he had driven straight from work) and Julián (who is now doing his phD), dressed in his usual, casual student clothes, is enough of a role play scenario.
However, the reader never forgets for one moment that this still seems like a professor-student encounter, not only by the age difference, or the way they are dressed or that the sex is taking place in a university office room, but that Julián is still in the role of a student, when he asks Bryce’s permission to do things to him.
Once in the university TA office, they get to revisit each other’s bodies in the time tested way that works for them both - a gentle BDSM that Julián likes with the use of a bit, and preferring that Bryce uses his tie with which to tie his hands together. Bryce is tender and gentle and sensitive, as he prepares him.
Similarly, Julián has prepped Bryce, enabling him to relax and shake off the stresses of, and forget, not only of his long day of teaching, but also his sordid encounter with Skye the night before.
Bryce notes that even though Julián is still the shy, nervous boy he always was, he appears to have become more confident in taking some control, and is slightly more assertive.
Travis gives us a slow build- up to their actual physical encounter - they meet in their usual eatery, are served by their usual waiter, they start talking, sweet looks and touches and, suddenly, two hours have passed while their food gets cold.
After their encounter, they hug and Bryce drives off to spend another night in an hotel, an upmarket one this time, relaxed and his thoughts full of Mat.
But all is not what it seems with Juliàn. Bryce does appear puzzled a few times by the subtle responses from Julián whenever he mentions Mat. I think that Bryce doesn’t realise that Julián is in love with him, and resents the fact that Bryce is married to Matt and will never be completely his.
Of all his sexual encounters so far, this one seems to take us, in my opinion, into the territory of the dangers of someone getting really hurt in this kind of arrangement. Tread carefully, Bryce!

This is one of the best stories in the collection so far. Softbois are one of my all time favorite character archetypes and Julian was one of the sweetest. I did appreciate that it was more professor/student adjacent than an actual relationship (or a roleplay thereof).

There is some light bondage, a lot of emphasis on "light." Even if you're not the biggest fan of that kind of thing, I doubt there's enough in the story to bother you. I also liked Bryce topping from the bottom once again.

I also loved the sub-theme on coming out. All the flashbacks to their time together when they were professor and student is adorable. Julian's journey of being comfortable with himself enough to come out was particularly relatable.

But of course, the adorableness (adorability?) of the two doesn't take away from the steamy scenes. It actually adds to it. And I love all the references to Mat. Really am looking forward to him coming home. :D

Just like the old days, after class. Except now he’s all grown up, and neither of us has anywhere to be tonight, except with each other.

After the…different…vibes with Skye, this is a refreshing follow-up.

Julián was one of Bryce’s students. The men met six years ago, when Julián was a freshman. Mateo always thought Julián had a crush on Bryce, but Bryce never believed it.

They’ve remained in touch over the years. Following Julián’s graduation, the two actually refrained from consummating their affections for three whole days.

In flashbacks, we see what a bright student Julián was. And we learn how Bryce inspired Julián to finally come out himself.

The lecture hall. The classroom. On the desk. 🥵

Excellent work with variety, circumcision status, and preparation. Strong physiology. Some restraint and gentle BDSM. Good descriptive detail.

The writing, as always, is hyper-realistic.

Best one yet in this series; stays on point. Satisfying story.

Personal. It all felt so personal to me, as though Julián was doing this on my behalf, an act of service and love.

The author makes a smooth transition from risky sex in the previous episode to a sweet connection with mild roleplay. In a different way from the last short, we get more insight into Bryce, this time about his professional career, as he reconnects with old student and now fellow academic Julian. I really liked the way this short segued from affection to shop talk to a sexual encounter and back again, which made it such a well-rounded read.

And we are back to these deep connections built in only a few pages. I feel like Im so repetitive with these short reviews but it still blows my mind, there is something about the writing and the words used that makes everything as if it was a long novel I was just reading about.

I love the way the teacher/student was handled here and how the timing of everything worked, also, that added kink was new to me , and it was kind of hot!. On to the next <3.

This was my favorite day of the week, because we got to see some teacher/student action. Atlhough it wasn't that taboo, because Julián was a former student of Bryce's, but I really enjoyed in nontheless. It was hot with that little public scene, the bondage and just the thought that they are in a teacher/student mindset, aww so good. Julián was my favorite.

while the specific kink elements prevent this from being one of my favorites, I still found the characters quite interesting.
