HER

I woke up in a bloody cellar, terrified, faced off with a man I never saw before, with no recollection whatsoever about how I got there, or who I was.

The one thing I knew for certain was that I had to get out, and as far away from that nightmare of a place as I could. I never imagined, the things I came to uncover after the fact would threaten my sanity.
But life has a funny way of surprising you, when you at least expect it.

HIM

I was an elite member of Zeta Security, just trying to make my dead parents proud. I ate, slept and breathed with the sole purpose of accomplishing one single goal. Take down those who wronged innocents. Nothing else mattered, that was until a broken and bruised woman clashed into my life and turned it upside down.
I was tasked to protect her with my life. Little did I know that I would be the one who needed saving.

A very intriguing romantic suspense read, with strong characters and interesting plot.
However, there were many plot holes. Scenes that either didn’t make sense or were not fully or appropriately developed, confused me and made me wondering if I had accidentally skipped a paragraph.

Problem 1: A lot of glaring fact-to-fact mistakes.

The basic story is okay, but this is lazy writing. The grammatical stuff can be easily solved with editing - “ A sharp sting hand my hand instinctively rising to my neck.” <<< Needs editing!

The plot holes and writing inconsistencies are glaring. For example… She has an IV in her right hand restraining any movement. Yet, seconds later, she’s out of the bed and backed in a corner. What happened to the IV? She has an infection in her whip marks, concussion, and various bruises and scratches. So why the hell does she have “surgery” for any of that?

Problem 2: Shit occurs that no one would actually do.

She has amnesia, but during a rape kit at the hospital, she specifically asks “look for my hymen.” She knows hand signals for the dog to attack without even pausing to wonder why, how?

Problem 3: MMC is beyond a grouch… he’s just not anything but a dick.

No redeeming qualities. The MMC is mad because the police officer interrogating her is physically and verbally abusive to her. Yet, his first words to her are: “You're not going anywhere, can't have you walking around with that nasty infection of yours. It's bad enough that you didn't tell the cops that you were this badly injured. I don't know why I assumed that you had two brain cells to rub together when it's painfully obvious that you're just another stupid, irresponsible twenty-year-old, who has zero self-preservation!”

^ He witnessed her being abused by the police, and he thinks she didn’t tell them she was injured? Huh? She’s been held captive for 2 weeks and he calls her all this lame shit? It makes him instantly UN-fucking-likable because his explanation is that his “pride” made him say it because she stole his gun while he slept.

He never gets any better until he’s suddenly all smiles and “she’s mine” after telling her about his trauma from 20+ years ago. He’s also incompetent, if not for the serial killer wanting to toy with them, the FMC could’ve been kidnapped multiple times while the MMC is pouting, sulking, or doing stupid shit. Which… ding, ding… finally happens.

Problem 4: Fugly dialogue.

With limited interaction and only a day after meeting her, one of the security team asks her if she has a man, telling her that he bet his “left nut” that she does. <<< Is this really dialogue that professional security team would use toward a possible rape victim? She says she’s never been with a man, which leads him to whisper shout that she’s a virgin. What kind of security team asks such questions to a victim kidnapped and held hostage by a serial killer for two weeks? Eeeeky, and now I don’t want to read any of the secondary characters because that’s just SAF.

Problem 5: WHO was she.. is she?

We leave the book knowing nothing about the FMC other than her name … who was she before she was kidnapped? Profession? Friends? Surviving family? Nothing~

Her referring to all the guys, most of whom she barely knows, as friends was weird. Did she have no life before this? A virgin at her age living at home with parents (never been kissed) without any explanation as to why?

Problem 6: Amnesia

WTF didn’t she do any of the kickass she did in the end while held captive for two weeks? Just didn’t feel authentic. Given the serial killers motive, why didn’t the MMCs story trigger her memory? Again, just not authentic plot movement.

Bottom line:

It was short enough to finish. The very ending was cute. The last few pages were the best lol. Sadly, the other 98% of the book was disappointing, disjointed, cringeworthy at times, and just not believable in action and dynamics. There’s so much potential in both the story and author, but this was a mess. I’d say it’s like having multiple cool AF pieces of clothing and accessories…. But none of them go together. This book is what happens when you force a look that doesn’t jive.

Scott is the first book by this author that I have read and I enjoyed the storyline with its twists, as well as meeting the men of the Zeta Security team as well as FBI Agent Cruz.

Maya was such an intriguing character, I liked her strength after experiencing such absolute hell. I also liked the way she stood up for herself. Scott was a damaged soul, I imagine all the boys are to some extent, and very hard on himself. He was his own worst enemy, to be honest. Sorting out their feelings was an obstacle in and of itself.

These characters in the security team were really interesting and I am keen to get to know them al, but where this author’s true talent shines is her writing of ‘bad’ characters. These are truly evil and with actions so deplorable they make you grit your teeth in anger.

Some slight inconsistencies were in the story, which I found only needed an edit to remedy them; e.g. one part says Maya is twenty then she says she’s twenty-five, or when Scott dressed in jeans but then suddenly he had sweats on. Scott also smashed his phone but the next morning his phone was ringing.

I love romantic suspense and will definitely be reading the next book.

This is a new author to me and I am intrigued by her stories. She writes well developed characters and a suspenseful storyline. These agents of the Zeta Security Firm are ones to watch out for. This first book in the series centers around Scott and Maya. Scott lives for getting revenge on the ones who destroyed his life. Maya has been through he** and doesn’t even know who she is, literally. Will Scott be able to protect Maya? Will these two damaged people be able to heal each other? Great start to the series and I am looking forward to the next installment.

OH MY HELL! I'm 100% hooked on this new Zeta Security series, so I'm HERE FOR IT ALL! There's so much going on in this story that I'll make this very brief. Maya has been through so much hell that it was very hard to comprehend, and she doesn't even know who she is anymore literally. Scott lives for getting revenge at those who destroyed his life, so there's a lot of darkness in him. Maya is being exploited by a cop because of her memory loss so an Agent asks them to protect this poor woman. It gets even crazier when Scott's adopted dog who hates everyone decides that Maya is to be protected at all costs so yeah, Scott has no choice but to become Maya's protector. There are a lot of moving parts, and since this is a security company book, there are twists to allow for f-bomb dropping, and that's the place I totally love to be. There's angst (two people & a dog with issues), there's excitement, darkness, push & pull, and there's the other men at this company so color me ALL IN on the series! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Scott only has one thing on his mind, finding the monster that killed his parents and the other cops and their spouses. He also is the adoptive father of an abused police dog that hates every one.
Maya had been held hostage, beaten, whipped, burnt and more and has no clue who she is. She has escaped but now is being abused by a cop because of her having no memory.
Cruz has gone to Scott and his team to take over protection of this woman. When they get to the police station and hear what is going on, his dog takes off. The are so shocked. The dog has become her protection.
Her tormentor keeps finding her. No one can figure out how. When they are all taken, how will they get free?

This is at the edge of your seat suspenseful and throw in romance & you have a winner.

Maya finds herself in a horrific situation - a living nightmare captured & tortured in a sick crazy dungeon. The courage & stretch and ability to keep her wits to escape amazing. Scott a security to provide protection and tell for a trap endangering the entire team. This is a case that blows wide open. Twist & turns here will keep you guessing but you will be unable to solve this puzzel. Oh my indeed. Tough but a great storybtobread. More reviews @my2centsbooklover. Thanks for following

Maya & Scott

This is a new author that I'm glad I have been introduced to. The story was engaging with good characters including Cruz from the FBI. I really enjoyed that way that Blaze, the damaged police dog 🐕 was incorporated into the storyline. I love the whole story & will be reading her books 📚 in the future! Thanks for a great story!

This was a great debut.
The series sounded right up my alley, and she did it justice.
Yes there is room for growth but the character development and the basis of the plot showed true potential. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Leaving my review here, as hate talking too much about debuts as know it takes a lot of guts to publish a book.

Good read

Scott met Maya in the police station where she was being harassed by a policeman. Having just escaped a man who had tortured her she was trying to explain she couldn't remember, but the cop didn't believe her and was screaming at her. Scott came in and punched him in the mouth and took her to the hospital.
Good book. I enjoyed it very much.

Omg, what a great start to a series. We got to meet each character. I couldn't put book down once started.

I loved Scott and Maya together, they may have interconnecting pasts and they trying to find out some information. But they also find love at same time. They really suit each other.

I can't wait for more.

No proofreading

Decent plot. Multiple misspelled words and choppy in areas. This could have been a 5 star book. Author needs to proofread the obtain an editor.

So much wrong with this story OMG

Read other reviews and think wow.
Positives:. Good story, great side characters, it got a one for Cruz Livingston from Susan Stokers books.
Negatives:. Oh where to start. The dog for one, sad back story but seriously if handler cannot handle him it should not be out in public. Then at times the fog just disappears. Scott is a over dominant pr$&k. Throwing Maya or Miya against the wall after she has just been torched for two weeks her back getting the worse of it, is not really caring. To take advantaged of her sexually within days of her being saved ridiculous and also taking her virginity for the first why only days of her torcher and while friend is outside, and killer is watching seriously. Maya or Miya whatever pathetic lost for words. Telling all six men she is a virgin then letting Scott do those things to her ridiculous. Skipped a lot of it. Oh and there was no evidence its was ever the same killer they had been looking for for 24yrs, they just assumed but nothing was ever really connected. Epilogue was cute though.
So wanted to read about the others but not worth the money.

Great book

Loved the story line. Always love a good mystery. Glad to read about the happy ending. My only fault with this book was all the typos and grammatical errors. It was like no one proof read it. As always keep writing and I will keep reading. Thank you.

Craziness.

Ok loved it and hated it at the same time. But that’s what drew me in and kept me flipping pages until I killed it in one sitting. I got Scott and yet found him exasperating. As well as maya. She didn’t understand why he was so bent out of shape for having her steal his gun and point it at his face. Yea I’m sure anyone would be in a great mood after that. Yes she was traumatized but that didn’t excuse her actions either. Their back and forth was ridiculous but it was because both were damaged and had issues to work out and honestly she should have been focusing on healing and the issues at hand instead of Scott. For someone who was kidnapped and tortured she had some skewed priorities but maybe that helped distract her. Whatever. Once we knew why Scott kept his distance. And OMG. What a bombshell!! For her to make the suggestion she did was hurtful and careless. I get the guilt and concern for the guys but that was not the way. On an aside I’m glad she learned who she was and was kick ass!! Never underestimate a woman!! I am glad that after hearing the reasoning behind 24 years of killing that the original perp who started this issue was apprehended. It doesn’t make what the killer did ok but it certainly gave context. So LOVE the ending!! So hysterical.

This is a debut from this author as well as being the 1st in a series and this is Scott and Maya’s story. Maya escaped after being held hostage and she was tortured which resulted in her losing her memory which results in her being abused by a cop. Scott is out for revenge against the people who destroyed his life. Scott and his team are approached to take over protection of Maya, and when they get to the police station, his dog which he adopted from being abused by a police officer and now hates everyone, takes off straight to protecting Maya. This is a good story which is intriguing, and with suspense, angst, and twists, which lead to an all-consuming page turner. This is certainly an author to look out for in the future, and I look forward to reading more from her.

I love the front cover and the idea of the task force.

However, for trained operatives, they continually make rookie mistakes, especially the book's name sake. He came across as unprofessional as he regularly lost his temper and left the key witness alone.

Also, wouldn't the safe house no longer be considered a safe house, seeing as the psychopath knew where Maya was? They stayed there for 3 more weeks though.

I was unsure how the psychopath continued to outsmart 6 supposedly highly trained operatives plus have killed so many other cops.

All up it was a good read with a little more editing required and some strange plot holes needing filled.

I really really need to find a series to get into. I had high hopes for this one. Intriguing start... then the dickage started. Scott was just ridiculous a the male lead. I just didn't believe in him as a character. I mean, forget the shit he said to her in the hospital... he left her in his bedsit alone... apart from the dog... when he knew that she had been held captive and tortured by a man that they thought was a serial killer. And with no warning... he told her that her parents had been murdered... ( apparently, she has amnesia )

DNF. I cannot be bothered to finish this. Irritated.

The first story from the series, based on the hotties that work for Zeta security. Scott is 100% alpha male with a painful past. Maya Linn comes into his life unexpectedly and the attraction is instant.

The book is fast paced and full of heart stopping moments.

I was a little perplexed to some of the scenes in the book, considering what Maya had been through I thought some of the physical scenes would have been too soon for her to have been physically healed.

New to me author and she didn't disappoint. The agents of Zeta Security have definitely caught my eye. Scott definitely prefers to be on his own and is looking for revenge when Maya ends up in his life because his dog who likes noone loves her. Scott and Maya have chemistry but they clash for a hood portion of this story. I definitely can't wait to read the next story.
