Whether you're a diehard alumni of the comics or a freshman to the Netflix series, this fantastic tome is one that will not want to miss this vividly designed hardcover volume exposing the idiosyncratic wit and dysfunctional dynamism of Netflix's family of superheroic savants.
Gerard Arthur Way (born April 9, 1977) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and comic book writer who served as frontman, lead vocalist, and co-founder of the band My Chemical Romance from the time of its formation in 2001 until its breakup in 2013. He is the author of the Eisner Award-winning comic book series The Umbrella Academy (now a Netflix original series) and The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. In January 2014, he announced via Twitter that he and artist Gabriel Ba will begin work on Umbrella Academy Volumes 3 & 4 in late 2014/early 2015. His debut solo album Hesitant Alien was released on September 30, 2014. Way lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife Lindsey (bassist of Mindless Self Indulgence) and their daughter, Bandit.
I found it interesting and fun to read but it’s mostly pictures and has very brief descriptions on the characters and the settings, I wish it was a lot more detailed and went deeper into how the show was made and what inspired certain decisions pertaining to the set, or interviews with the cast and/or crew etc. and less addressing what the reader/viewer already knows. I would still recommend considering as a fan of this show I very much enjoyed reading it but I just wish it had more detail.
So fun to get to see some of the extra behind the scenes work on a production I have actually been part of and worked on myself. I've always seen the set photographer around snapping pics here and there and wondering when and where those pictures would turn up.
I really hope that a second book is made for the second season.
This is a beautiful book. The production art is gorgeous. I appreciated getting to see clearer pictures of the various props and posters created by the art department to flesh out the world of the series. I enjoy the retro-future quasi 1950s style they play with. The set paintings and photos are stunning - there is so much detail and atmosphere and you really feel the love that went into it.
I am disappointed that there were no interviews - I would have loved to see some interviews with cast and crew. There's barely any text in this book at all - the edition I have doesn't even have the forward by Gerard Way that's listed on GoodReads - but it's a nice artbook and I enjoyed looking through it.
The pictures are gorgeous and informative. However, having recently read a similar style book about Good Omens, I can’t help but negatively compare this book against that one. In the Good Omens book you get sooo much information, not only photos, but also interviews with cast and crew.
It's a coffee table book, which isn't a bad thing. The details they put in the scenery are very cool to see, but I really would have liked more information on the making of the show, converting it from a comic, and why they made some of the decisions they did.
The behind the scenes photos and art were cool but wish there was more in-depth details and interviews. I would’ve loved to see them really deep dive into the first season.
Short in terms of text, and therefore somewhat lacking in depth, but the pre-production sketches and behind the scenes photographs etc are all excellent.
Agree with a lot of the other reviews, it's very pretty but I really would have liked more content to the book. Clearly you can see a lot of work went into making the show and there is so many tiny design details - I wish more had been written about that and the design choices! Would have been great for the costuming or set design teams to have written a bit about their choices and the work instead of just having the images.
Album „The Making of The Umbrella Academy” autorstwa Gerarda Way’a to książka, która z pewnością przyciągnie uwagę fanów zarówno komiksu, jak i serialu Netflixa.
Porównując album „The Making of The Umbrella Academy” z podobnymi publikacjami dotyczącymi innych produkcji, takich jak „Good Omens”, można odczuć pewien brak.
„The Making of The Umbrella Academy” to wspaniała pozycja dla tych, którzy cenią sobie stronę wizualną i chcą zanurzyć się w estetyce serialu.
