A Snowverse Novel

Caroline hadn't meant to lie about her past, she just didn't think it was relevant...
When Caroline's betrothal to the King of the Underworld was dissolved, the fact that that betrothal had been orchestrated by an anti-monarchist group to take down the crown from the inside became irrelevant. Which was why Caroline never told her girlfriend, Mina, anything about her involvement with said group, even after years of being together and sharing a life.

But when the past comes back to haunt her, with new plans threatening to drag Caroline back into Underworld politics, she and Mina are left wondering if the future they had hoped to build together was all just an elaborate fiction.

Were a Demon noble and Human detective ever going to have a life together, or is it time for their dream to end?

HOME is the second book in The Royal Cleaner series.

L.C. Mawson

Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...

In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...

The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.

Caroline and Mina have been together for a few years now, and they are living comfortably. Caroline is still worrying that she is living in a fantasy and that she will end up getting Mina and her daughter hurt, or end up having to leave them. When more of the truth about Caroline's past comes out, their relationship becomes even more strained. Caroline might have to return to the Underworld politics, and she doesn't want to drag Mina and Diya down with her. Mina doesn't want to leave her.

I am loving this new series so far! I have absolutely fallen in love with Caroline and Mina, and their family together. Also, I am loving how I am seeing the Freya Snow series through Lady Caroline's eyes. It really allows you to understand characters such as Damon better, and gives more details to previous events that occurred in Snowverse.
The worldbuilding in this one was intense, as we get to see some of the reason why Caroline doesn't want to be involved in Demon politics. It also gives more context about who is really in power in the Demon world.

The plot was fairly fast-paced, but I didn't feel lost at all in this novel. I didn't see any slow-downs or speed changes that would have interrupted my reading, so this was a good thing.

I can't say too much about this novel, as I don't want to spoil anything for potential readers, but just know that it really gets intense. I loved every minute of this novel.

Also, another thing that I can't talk about too much is the character development. Just know that there was a lot of it, and certain characters seemed to change almost completely after this novel. One thing that isn't too spoiler-y is that Diya's relationship with her mother changes. Diya has grown up from the little girl she was in the last novel and is almost 10 years old, meaning that she wants more freedoms. Mina isn't quite ready to give those to her, but she also doesn't want Diya to feel burdened. She doesn't want to compete with the father to the point that she just allows Diya to get away with anything she wants. This entire storyline was very interesting to read.

One other thing that I thought was funny was when Mina went on a group date with Caroline and her friends, the rest of whom are also autistic. Mina, being the only non-autistic person in the group, felt very awkward in the conversations, almost as if she didn't know what was coming next, and she couldn't fit in. It helped her to connect with Caroline more, and I thought that this was a sweet little addition to this great story.

The characters from the Almosts trilogy are also spoken about in this story, but everything takes place AFTER the last book in that series so it would have a lot of spoilers if you haven't already read that one.

I would recommend this book to lovers of diverse fantasy novels.

I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

This book concentrates on the relationship between Caroline, the Head of the Royal Cleaners (who deals with any Demons causing problems and sending them back to the Underworld) and her girlfriend Mina, a Human.

Mina is a police officer in charge of special cases and has set up her own team to help with any investigations that deal with demons or any type of magic, something that has to be kept from all humans and which she and anyone telling her, could be killed for that knowledge. Caroline doesn’t tell anyone that Mina knows about magic, after finding that when she tries to wipe her memory of previous events that her magic didn’t work on Mina.

Caroline and Mina see their friends progressing with their relationships and when Mina’s daughter goes off on a week-long trip, their partnership should get stronger as they have so much more time alone, but life, problems with communicating (especially when one side is autistic) and work getting in the way, start to break them apart.

Caroline’s responsibilities in the Underworld are brought to the fore with a sudden appearance of someone from Caroline’s past, other life which she has kept secret from Mina. A sudden trip back to the Underworld is tearing them apart and Mina insists on being part of Caroline’s team on this case, which carries dangers to them all if she is discovered.

Lots of relationship difficulties arise for the characters in this book and show the problems all people have trying to keep partnerships in life together. Seeing other close relationships being taken to the next step and knowing you are condemning your partner to never have the same, because of your family loyalties and expectations.

Another great read from the author, with some mention of other characters readers will know and love, but mainly concentrating on the Royal Cleaners and their Head – Caroline and her relationship with Mina. You still have tales involving fighting demons and saving others. It’s always a pleasure to pick up another of this authors books and see who is involved this time and what will happen to them.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and look forward to many more. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This is the second book following Caroline's story, and I'm really enjoying this spin-off series. Not only do we get to see great characters - like her partner Mina (who we don't meet in the main series of books), all the guys in her office, many of whom were encountered in the Almosts trilogy (also a spin-off in the Snowverse), and there are also appearances from Damon, and Jean from Haven (who appears in book 11 of the main series) - but the events take us on a real journey - of emotions, and through the real world and the Underworld! It's a great read, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Caroline, or is a Snowverse fan. Looking forward to the next instalment!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Magnificent story. Mina and Caroline are refreshing characters: full of foibles yet working to work together to get through the difficulties. And that's exactly what life has in store for all of us. The telling of this tale is so well done, that my emotions occasionally made reading difficult; so, be ware

Ok, this is just a a “quickie” review. Unfortunately, I’m in in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time to do better - even though the book definitely deserves it.

Bottom line: five stars. This was one wonderfully fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters.

Another enjoyable short read by L.C. Mawson. I own several of her books but had never managed to read one until lately. This is my fourth. An intricately and tightly woven story-line made for a page-turning read. I've already started book 3 in the series since the first 3 were so good.

I read this a while ago but I’m just now getting around to posting a review for this. This book has a slow start but it explores more of Caroline and Mina’s relationship and it does a good job at it because Caroline’s past is revealed and that tests their relationship.

Allow about half an uninterrupted day for the story of how Caroline and Mina settle into their relationship. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
