I was looking forward to this book....until I read it. The plot line could be great. In this case, it was more about promoting social justice. The author likes to refer to the military as stupid Neanderthals with only one possible reaction to anything. In one passage, the protagonist says, " If this ship had come down over European soil, or hell, anywhere except America, the aliens would be dealing with a very civilized delegation of top politicians." Then the protagonist ends up relying on the military to save the day....but doesn't change her idea of the people who put their lives on the line for her, they deserve nothing but her contempt. I see enough of the SJW's contempt for most of America in the news, don't want it in my leisure reading.
This book has a few novel ideas although it is possible to see that it's an early attempt. It does highlight the need for greater redundancy in mobile electronics. A diesel just needs fuel supplied at the right time and it with work. Easy reading although long time SciFi readers will feel unhappy with some of the word chose. Solders obey yes but we are allowed to say NO to dumb orders. At a guess I would say a non soldier writing about what soldiers must do with some preconceptions thrown in. I enjoyed the book.
I read your book in one evening and for a first time enterprise I'm super excited to see a new talented author come into your own. The book was fast paced with a great story line and a hook at the end as I can't wait to follow the characters into the cosmos. The characters where well defined and I was very much able to relate to them. Please send me more and please, keep writing.
5/10:Finished the book and it was about average for me.
I love people, but they exhausted me.
I did enjoy this story, but I kept getting distracted by the editing mistakes. There were just too many. I don't normally worry too much about that sort of thing. No book is perfect. Mistakes happen. I can skip over them and not get pulled from the story.
But not this time, unfortunately. It loses points/stars for that. Sorry.
A First Contact story that had me engrossed from the word go, if this were a stand alone story I would be satisfied with a story well told, the fact that there are another two episodes is the icing on the cake, I am looking forward to the next book. I think I have just discovered my new favourite author!
I liked the two lead characters, a radical liberal thinking sassy social worker speculating on first contact and an Air Force Pilot who initiated a violent first contact as ordered by command. Both establish contact but the aliens are not as expected. An entertaining story that was too short. On to book 2
The book takes you on a trip that had a lot of ups and downs and how stupid people can be at times. But it took a outsider to show the way , a woman with a attitude to wake them up. The was well done with a great story to keep you wanting more.
This book was fairly well written, but the characters and their actions were very stereotypical. Too much so for my taste as real life isn't always so black and white.Overall the author did a a good showing for her first book.
