When magical beings start to disappear, it's up to Freya to figure out who's behind it. The problem? Her girlfriend is the prime suspect.
As far as Freya knew, the only downside to dating the new girl in town was that she was human and wouldn't really get Freya's whole magical vigilante thing.
But when Freya catches her girlfriend, Alex, holding her own against a demon, things don't quite add up.
With a recent bout of scarily efficient abductions, everyone's got Enhanced on the mind, the genetically-engineered human soldiers that fought magic last time it was exposed.
But they were wiped out, weren't they?
When all the evidence points to Alex, Freya will have to choose between the woman she loves and the people she swore to protect.
ENHANCED is the sixth book in the Freya Snow series. Freya Snow is Urban Fantasy with a dash of sci-fi.
Other Freya Snow Titles: TRAPPED HUNT SHORT STORY COLLECTION WHITE WINGS ORACLE WITCH
Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...
In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...
The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.
Freya continues to work at the coffee shop with Sarah, and one day a girl named Alex comes in and gives Freya her number. Freya is nervous about trying to date a human, but she decides to contact her anyway. They are happy together, but when Freya is being attacked by a demon, all of a sudden Alex appears and helps her defeat him. This reveals that Alex is an Enhanced Human, or a human that has the power to silence the magic of other magical creatures. This would not be so bad if there weren't tense feelings between the Witches and the Enhanced Humans since the war years ago. Also, there have been disappearances of humans lately, and Enhanced Humans were to blame. Now, Freya must trust her girlfriend and hide her from the others who might kill her on sight if they knew that she was enhanced.
I really enjoyed seeing Freya with a significant other again. Seeing her having someone who loves her or will fight for her always made me happy in this series, and the addition of Alex has satisfied all of those criteria. The scenes where they fought together were also exciting to read, but their comfort/fluff scenes were adorable.
Also, this book did not forget about Sarah or Mel with the addition of Alex, so I got to see more of Freya having fun with her friends in their coven.
I recommend this series to anyone who wants to read a diverse fantasy story with a strong heroine and action scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
"Freya will have to choose between the woman she loves and the people she swore to protect."
I adore the heroine of this series, Freya Snow, in all her magical, autistic, bi-sexual glory. She's truly complex and wonderful, increasingly mature and capable, and increasingly powerful, but still young, learning and growing. She's starting to truly fulfill the promise of this character laid our way back in book 1 of the series. And now in this story she falls in love for the first real time. Of course things aren't that easy for her since Alex, her love interest, is suspect #1 in the disappearance of magical beings. She's clearly more than she seems to be at first glance, troubling especially when it's possible she might be one of the "Enhanced", the genetically-engineered human soldiers that fought magic last time it was exposed. Tune in and read to find out. It's definitely worth the ride.
My favorite so far. Alex isn't what she appears, but then again, neither is Freya. As dark magical beings go missing Alex becomes an unwitting suspect. Freya meets more demons and begins a closer working relationship with them and Caroline, finding she accepts her own dark nature a little bit more. The light beings are happier with the demons patrolling for the safety of everyone. But something is still off. Freya can't tell her friends the truth about her new girlfriend, no one would believe her. But how well does she really know her? Is Alex involved? By the end everything is spinning out of control! The world has changed for Freya and Alex, and anyone could be an enemy now. Even a friend.
The latest book following the journey of Freya Snow is another page turner. In this book, Freya discovers that her girlfriend Alex is not who she thinks she is. There are also attacks happening in the city and based on evidence, Alex is one of the prime suspects. This story focuses on the relationship between the two of them and various issues that arise while Freya also struggles with avoiding taking a light or dark side in the world of politics.
Information provided in the earlier books begins to make more sense now as well. Overall it was one of my favorite books in the series so far.

This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. The mystery of Freya Snow grows. I am so in love with this series this is book # 6 in the series and it keeps getting better.
Enhanced, the sixth book of the Snowverse series by L.C. Mawson, is the most accomplished and polished book of the series. Freya Snow, the magical, autistic, bi-sexual protagonist, has grown up; no longer a frightened and unsure teen, she’s a competent, capable woman no longer afraid to ask for help. And she falls in love for the first time.
Freya is still young, so she’s still growing into her powers, and still determining her place in the magical universe. Her self-understanding and her willingness to accept responsibility have matured along with her (or are those parts of the definition of maturity?). But she’s still making mistakes, of course, or there wouldn’t be much of a story!
I found this book to be tighter in terms of story structure and pacing than some of the earlier books, more focused and with some needed reminders of previous occurrences that influence the events in Enhanced. Freya’s central conflict regarding her Dark and Light bloodlines is furthered without dominating the story.
The author has created a complex and evolving world in the Snowverse, and I definitely recommend reading the books from the beginning to fully appreciate the character and conflict development. Five stars for Enhanced.
