„- Ca neîmblânzit, acum ai nişte responsabilităţi, Caw. Lumea nu trebuie să afle cine eşti. Oamenii nu sunt de încredere.”
Când am făcut cunoştinţă cu Harry Potter, pe lângă faptul că voiam să merg la Hogwarts, să beau ceai cu Hagrid şi să mă joc cu creaturile fantastice pe care încerca să le ascundă (fără succes) pe meleagurile castelului, îmi mai doream şi o baghetă, o pelerină la fel de lungă şi de întunecată ca a lui Snape, care a fost şi a rămas personajul meu preferat de la primul până la ultimul volum, şi... o bufniţă. O bufniţă încăpăţânată, curajoasă, cu o personalitate aparte, care să îmi fie atât prietenă, cât şi aliat.
Acum, după ce am terminat al doilea volum din seria Neîmblânziţii, sunt tentată să am un „companion” diferit, mai exact un corb sarcastic şi plin de surprize, care poate să devină ochii şi urechile mele, spionul perfect, păstrătorul de taine şi arma mea secretă. Cu o bufniţă şi un corb de partea mea, aş putea să fiu de neoprit. Dar, cum nu sunt un villain DC sau Marvel, care are (aproape) întotdeauna doar două scopuri în viaţă (să cucerească sau să distrugă lumea), nu ai de ce să-ţi faci griji. Nu am planuri atât de mari, poate doar să duc la îndeplinire câteva farse „inocente”, pentru amuzament. Te-ai speria dacă ai vedea sute de corbi la geamul tău dimineaţa, nu?
Neîmblânzit. Cuvântul are o rezonanţă plăcută, o aură ascunsă, de magie şi mister, de parcă ar încerca să ascundă un secret, o taină mult prea întunecată şi periculoasă pentru oameni, care, aşa cum se întâmplă în majoritatea seriilor fantastice, sunt „orbi” în ceea ce priveşte supranaturalul, alegând o explicaţie ştiinţifică în locul unei „întâlniri” cu realitatea, oricât de şocantă li s-ar părea.
Un neîmblânzit este o persoană care poate să controleze toate animalele dintr-o anumită specie. Le poate manipula şi obliga să îndeplinească orice poruncă, indiferent cât de crudă ni s-ar părea. Le poate vorbi şi împărtăşi temerile sau gândurile sale, să le trateze drept prieteni şi să le ocrotească, aşa cum şi ele ar face orice ca să îşi protejeze conducătorul, chiar cu preţul propriei vieţi. În funcţie de personalitatea şi comportamentul fiecărui neîmblânzit, această legătură, dintre om şi animal, poate să fie un har sau un blestem, respectiv o relaţie de „stăpân-sclav” sau una care ar eclipsa până şi sentimentele din cadrul unei familii „obişnuite”, atât timp cât există respect, înţelegere şi armonie.

Quite The Novel Idea ~ Words from the Clouds

I know a lot of my bookish friends didn't enjoy the first book, Ferals, a lot, but I for one loved it SO MUCH. Caw became one of my favorite characters ever and I just fell in love with it. So naturally I was a bit scared the sequel wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it did! Because I loved it a whole lot and I wasn't disappointed.
The Swarm Descends furthers Caw's story while re-introducing us to all the known characters and mixing in totally new ones. The writing is still SO great and it reads so fast! I read this book in one sitting in two and a half hours. I couldn't put it down even for a second. Suffice to say it does not suffer from Second Book Syndrome. And the characters, so much love for all of them! I loved seeing Crumb, Pip and Lydia again and the crows Glum and Screech. I also liked the new characters Selina, the crow Shimmer and our new villain, the Mother of Flies (I hate flies), and her minions were terrific. But most of all I loved Caw. I love seeing him grow and learn and I just adore him period. He's still one of my favorite characters and I can't wait to see where he goes next!
The Swarm Descends is a great sequel to Ferals. It's engaging, fun and builds the overall world and lore of the Ferals. If you liked the first book, definitely check this one out. If you didn't, try it anyway! You might end up enjoying it more. I wish I could find the author on Social Media so I can gush about his books, but he's nowhere to be found. (Pulling a JD Salinger, eh?) Anyway, can't wait to read the third book. Check this out if you're looking for a great new Middle Grade series!

I'm about to share spoilers here!
I really enjoyed the first book, but futher the story gets even better. More devious villains, slightly more complexed characters and even more animals to meet! I know it's middle grade read, but I enjoyed it so much 🖤
As the Caw adventures continue - you see how strong that boy want to do good. He is so loyal to both of his homeless friends and his crow, Lydia as well. Yet, this poor orphan is so fast to trust people and he wants nothing more than family. I think that's why he trusted Selina over and over again. Even when she betrayed them several times. Caw chooses to find good in people if there is any of that.
Also, I admire how he was ready to die to save a Midnight stone just because it's his family legacy. And even then the boy did anything he could to protect Lydia and Selina, even his crow. I just think that Caw is a good role model not even for boys, but for girls as well. Moreover, this book shows strong young girls, not let them just "swing" in the back. And it's not just them. Every character is one of the kind, have his/her own charm and makes you remember them.
I think even it's a series for younger audience - story is well thought. Characters build beautifully and nothing feels out of order. Both villains and good talkers seems equally strong and because of that sorry don't get boring! So, if you love fantasy - give this 13th year old crow talker a chance and read about his adventures. I loved it, maybe you will too 😉

O continuare pe măsura primului volum a aventurilor lui Caw, Băiatul-care-vorbește-cu-corbii, care acum are de înfruntat un adversar și mai de temut: Mama Muștelor. Aventuri peste aventuri, prieteni dispuși să facă orice sacrificiu și un artefact încredințat lui Caw de un bărbat misterios, de la care pornește totul. الاحداث والمجريات في هذا الجزء كانت ممتعة وعلى نفس مستوى الجزء الاول, وخاصة لمحبي القصص الفانتازيا والقوى الخارقة والجميل في هذا القصة مثلما قلت سابقا هو العلاقة بين الانسان والحيوان وكيفية العمل او التواصل بينهم, القصة سوف يعمق في الاحداث ويجعلك تستمتع في قراءته وخاصة مليئة بلأحداث المثيرة الذي نستطيع ان نقول انه مثل افلام الاكشن للقوى الخارقين.

But there is a new evil in the city, and "Mother of the Flies" will not stop at anything to make crime, corruption and chaos go awry again. Kao must use all the courage, and every friend can find him, to take on some really terrifying Viral. Dark family secrets will be revealed - and he will learn to be extremely careful about who the perpetual man is.
In this part of the book we get to know more about the character of Kao and the people who represented them and how to deal with this fact. On the other hand, some new characters will enter into the events and may be very useful or make you get to know the story more, and the more interesting thing is getting to know the past of "Kao" More.
The events and events in this part were interesting and at the same level as the first part, especially for fans of fantasy stories and supernatural powers. The beautiful in this story, as I said earlier, is the relationship between humans and animals and how to work or communicate between them. The story will deepen the events and make you enjoy reading it, especially full of exciting events. Which we can say is like the action movies of supernatural powers.

Caw is not finished with adventures, this time it begins when a mysterious man give him a stone. He tells Caw that he had been entrusted with the stone by Caw's mother who instructed him to give it to Caw and have Caw keep it secret.
The problem is that there is a new feral villain in town who will do anything to get the stone from Caw. Caw and his friend Lydia along with new companion Selina have to learn what the stone is for and how they can use it to defeat the Mother of the Flies.
This series has lots of creepy scenes and the action never stops. Caw is a great character who has a deep sense of honor and a deep desire to protect his fellow ferals. Not bad for a young teenager who was raised by crows after the deaths of his parents and who has just recently learned to interact with humans and other ferals.
Fans of the first book will be glad to see Caw having new adventures along with his crow companions.

Como es un libro Middle Grade lo califico como tal.
Este libro creo que tiene el mismo grado que el anterior, es un buen libro para niños y adolescentes que quieren entrar en un mundo simplemente bien construido.
Algunos personajes secundarios quedan algo poco profundos, se nota el crecimiento en la madures intelectual que le pone el autor al protagonista y esto hace que uno se crea un poco más el personaje.
El ritmo es igual al libro anterior y para mí es bueno, por lo que todavía entretiene y señala pequeñas cosas de la vida.
Este libro creo que tiene el mismo grado que el anterior, es un buen libro para niños y adolescentes que quieren entrar en un mundo simplemente bien construido.

نسبت به یه داستان فانتزی نوجوان نمره ی 3.5 الی 4 بهش میدم. نسبت به جلد قبل پیشرفت قابل توجهی داشت. تاریخچه ی فرالها و قدرتشون پرداخت بیشتری داشت و مبارزات این جلد بیشتر بود. و فرالها حضوری پر رنگ و فعال داشتن مخصوصا موجوداتی که توی این جلد بودن. با اینکه همچنان حفره هایی در داستان بود ولی برای یه کار نوجوان نسبتا قابل چشم پوشیست

Setelah sekian lama akhirnya lanjutan Feral tayang juga. Setelah sebelumnya Caw menang melawan Spinning Man yang gila, sekarang muncul Feral Lalat yang ganas.
Feral lalat, Cynthia Davenport selalu dipandang rendah oleh kawanan Feral lainnya. Cynthia kembali ke Blackstone dengan tujuan menguasai dunia Feral. Satu-satunya cara adalah dengan memiliki Batu Tengah Malam.
Batu Tengah Malam milik keturunan Feral Gagak. Batu ini menyimpan "jiwa" Feral. Bisa menghilangkan kekuatan Feral dan bisa menciptakan garis keturunan Feral yang terputus.
Caw kali ini dibantu Lidya dan Selina (putri Bunda Lalat) harus menyelamatkan Feral lain dari nasib buruk. Pertempuran kali ini Caw hanya mengandalkan diri sendiri, Velma dan Feral lain telah ditahan Bunda Lalat.
Sungguh menjijikkan Bunda Lalat ini. Tau sndri kan lalat hidupnya gimana, super jorok. Hueekkk.. Bunda lalat ini juga super tangguh dan ganas. Beberapa kali geregetan dengan Caw yang selalu positif thinking dan Naif. Hampir bikin semuanya celaka. Beruntung para Gagak siap membantu.
Cerita di sekuel Feral ini juga makin intens. Bahkan endingnya sedikit dibikin penasaran. Buku ketiganya bakal makin seru nih. Ada Feral laba-laba baru ternyata! Surpriseeee...

القصة مليانة أكشن وتشويق، وكل شابتر بيخليك عايز تعرف إيه اللي هيحصل بعد كده. أسلوب جاكوب جراي بسيط وسهل، لكنه في نفس الوقت بيقدر يوصف الأماكن والشخصيات بطريقة تخليك تحس إنك جوه الأحداث. أكتر حاجة عجبتني إن الرواية مش بس مغامرات، لكن فيها كمان لحظات إنسانية بتخليك تتعاطف مع "كاو" وتحس بصراعه الداخلي بين الخير والشر.
الشخصيات الجانبية برضه كانت قوية، وخصوصًا الشخصيات الجديدة اللي بتظهر في الجزء ده، وبعضهم عندهم قدرات غامضة زي "كراو"، وده زوّد عنصر المفاجأة والإثارة.

This series is such a fun, fast-paced read that I have now finished two of the three books in one day! I'm seriously loving Caw and all his crows and friends. If it wasn't so late (and my neck wasn't bothering me) I'd start on the third one!!

so here i am, with the second book....
God i never know how to start a review :/
okay, i'll start with saying that The Swarm Descends was as lovely as Ferals the first book, we had a new crow, i still love Screech more though ;)
well it was nothing complex, as yummy and cup cakey as the previous book, and sometimes through the book i felt the lack of depth, you know, like more background for the events or people in the story, also some parts it didn't feel psychologically correct, some reactions were a little shallow , i'll give you a for instance: imagine after about 20 years you tell your wife/husband you can talk to animals, no one gets angry right away, at first they might laugh for a bit, then ask you about your health, then they might become reaaally amazed at your powers, and after a considerably long period of understanding and asking questions and stuff like that they'd get angry at you for not sharing.
i'm not really sure but in my experience people usually react like that, they don't adapt that fast, this part of the story bugged me a little, but other than that i really liked it.
also when i first started the series i called dibs on the ability to talk to bats, someone else got it :(

Al ser la 2da parte (obviamente) ya no cuenta tanto la historia introductoria
Y eso hace que haya más acción durante todo el libro
Si nos cuentan más historia pero es diferente...
La realidad es que el inicio es muy forzado, el enemigo en el universo Feral innecesario
Pero ya que hizo todo el autor hay que agradecer que lo hizo bien
El tejedor daba miedo...
Pero el enemigo de aquí me hizo odiarlo...
no me agradó tanto el final...
Pero sin duda me dejó con muchas más ganas de tener el 3er libro ya en mis manos y despejar las dudas que tengo...
Habrá que esperar...
Y eso hace que haya más acción durante todo el libro

Caw, băiatul care vorbea cu corbii, l-a învins pe maleficul Spinning Man în prima parte a trilogiei. În partea a 2 apare un alt personaj malefic: Mama Muștelor. Caw, împreună cu prietenii săi, luptă pentru a scăpa orașul Blackstone de noul pericol. Nici această parte nu m-a dezamăgit!

ماذا لو أخبرك احدهم بأنه يمكنك ان تمتلك قدرة التحكم بأحد أنواع
الحيوانات لكن لذلك عواقبه الأخلاقية هل كنت ستفعل ؟
في الجزء الثاني من سلسلة المتوحشون يتابع كاو تصدر البطولة في عالم المتحكمين في الحيوانات والحشرات ويحظى هذه المرة بمغامرة جديدة بعد ان تتكشف احداث يتضح فيها أن رفيق الغربان هذا يقع على قمة هرم المتوحشين وعليه ان يوجه تلك التي تقبع أسفل الهرم!
تقسيم عنصري هل كان له معنى؟ ولماذا الاشمئزاز المبالغ به من المتحكمة بالذباب مالذي يجعل خارق الديدان افضل ولماذا هذا الرجل لا يموت
يحصل كاو على حجر أملس بقايا من أرث والدته يحيط به الغموض والأسرار التي تغلفها تلك الأحلام الفوضوية وكالعادة أشرار يحاولون الحصول على ما يخص كاو دوما ليخدم أغراضهم
لم يعجبني في هذا الكتاب أن بناء العالم ما زال مبهم تلك المدينة التي دمرها الصيف المشؤوم لا نعرف عنها شيئا حقا الأشخاص العادييون يبدون على الهامش الحكايا تتخذ منحى سوادوي والعديد من المشاهد المقززة
ولكن اعجبني أيضا أن الشخصيات الموجودة في هذا العالم متفردة تتصرف وفق تصميماتها الفريدة لكل منها صوته الخاص ثم أننا هنا نستكشف أفرادا جدد في عالم المتوحشين كما ان الكتابة و المشاهد القاسية لم تستهن بعقل المتلقي اليافع
طبقات الحبكات لم تكن سيئة لكن لا زلت أرى ان جاكوب غراي ضعيف في القفلة وعلى أية حال فهذه لا تعبر قفلة انها الجزء الثاني من ثلاثية وغالبا ما تكون الضحية الأضعف ضمن السلسلة كلها
انقضاض سرب الذباب فانتازيا سوداوية لا تخشى ان تضحى بأبطلاها .. قد تكون مناسبة لمن يفكر بالانتقال من عالم الفانتازيا الوردية إلى تلك الأكثر دموية
الكتاب من إخراج وترجمة الدار العربية للعلوم على ورق اصفر مريح للعين لا يحوي أي رسومات توضيحية
نعم من المرجح ان أقرأ باقي السلسلة لست متحمسة تماما لها لكن أطفالي مغرمون بها .. وأنا ضحية هذا الغرام

După ce primul volum m-a aruncat în vâltoarea penelor și a acțiunii, știam că nu voi putea rezista prea mult fără volumul doi. Nu am lăsat pauză între ele, trebuia să știu, să descopăr și să văd dacă autorul mi-a acoperit unele semne de întrebare. Și ca să fiu sinceră, trebuia să văd ce aventură mă mai așteaptă.

3.5zvaigznes. Kaut kā par daudz un jau garlaicīgi pusi grāmatas kā pele ar kaķi labie vs ļaunie. Un baigi jau uzkrītoši kukaini pa muti un ausīm ņemas. Laikam ar citiem zvēriem tik lielu pretīgumu grūti panākt :)

Keskiyön kivi. Kirjan nimi suomennettuna. Nimi tulee mustasta timantista ja sopimuksesta, joka kirjoitettiin keskiyön tuntina.
Kraan tarina jatkuu, ja vallan erinomaisesti jatkuukin. Tässä kirjassa hän saa vastaansa Kärpästen äidin - halveksitun ja syrjityn lymyn, joka haluaa käsiinsä Varissuvun suojeleman kiven. Hinnalla millä hyvänsä.

Ik heb uiteraard eerst deel 1 gelezen, maar deel 2 leest net zo lekker weg. Het is wel voor kinderen vanaf 10 jaar, maar ik houd van dit soort verhalen. Ik ben benieuwd naar deel 3!

Mumpung buku kedua dan ketiga seri Ferals juga sudah diterjemahkan dan tersedia di Gramedia Digital, maka abis baca buku pertamanya ya gue otomatis lanjut aja dengan buku kedua. Cerita masih tetap berfokus pada Caw, seorang Feral atau pengendali binatang. Bukan sembarang binatang, karena Caw adalah Feral gagak. Jadi semua gagak di kota Blackstone ada di bawah kendali Caw. Sama kayak buku pertama, dari semua feral seakan feral gagak ini yang paling penting dan diincer sama musuh. Di buku pertama, Caw berhadapan dengan musuh bebuyutannya yang juga membunuh orang tuanya, Spinning Man. Nah, walau Spinning Man sudah berhasil dikalahkan di buku 1, ga lantas kedamaian datang. Kota Blackstone masih tetep kumuh dan kali ini Caw lagi - lagi diincar sama Feral bernama Bunda Lalat (yang mengendalikan...yak, you right, lalat) yang jauh lebih bengis ketimbang Spinning Man. Tapi bukan Caw namanya kalau harus menyerah dengan keadaan.
Di buku keduanya ini, Jacob Grey menambahkan beberapa tokoh. Salah satunya Selina, cewe yang ditemui Caw pas Caw lagi nostalgia di rumah lamanya. Lha, terus Lydia kemana? Tenang Lydia tetap ada dan tenang juga, ga ada namanya cinta segitiga soalnya fokusnya bukan di kisah romansanya Caw. Jadi mereka semua temenan. Dari para feral sendiri, mulai dikenalkan feral yang baik tapi yang jahat juga ada. Malah gue mikirnya ini agak ga seimbang ya antara kekuatan feral baik sama feral jahat. Padahal feral baik jumlahnya lebih banyak tapi feral jahatnya bisa menang di awal - awal. Mungkin authornya penganut paham jagoan menangnya di akhir :))). Selain tokoh manusia, tentunya ada tambahan gagak baru lagi di trio kawanan gagak yang setia menemani Caw. Si gagak baru bernama Shimmer, seekor gagak betina yang kayaknya sih ditaksir sama Screech. Lha terus Milky kemana? Kalau mau tahu nasib Milky ya kudu baca buku pertama hehehe. Sayangnya, bagi gue interaksi Caw sama gagak - gagaknya kurang banyak disini padahal gue kangen pengen baca Screech dan Glum saling beradu pantun (alias berantem). Untuk karakter Feral, lebih banyak karakter dewasa dimana yang masih muda cuma Caw dan juga Pip. Jadi agak ga balance juga nih benernya.
Kalau dari segi cerita, tentunya tetap seru dan alurnya cepat. Nyebelin ala anak remajanya juga ada, tapi sekali lagi masih bisa dimaklumi soalnya Caw sendiri juga selain pengalaman sama manusia kurang, dia juga masih belajar baca. Tapi Caw sendiri perkembangan karakternya lumayan dan dia ga mudah menyerah. Mungkin bagi gue yang agak bikin jijik karena deskripsi serangga di buku ini. Kalau di buku pertama ada kecoak sama lipan, di buku ini ya...lalat, wkwkw. Sama satu lagi yaitu cacing. Meski begitu gue masih tetep menikmati pas bacanya kok, mungkin berusaha biar ga terlalu dibayangkan juga. Authornya sendiri mungkin juga ingin balance interaksi Caw, jadi hampir semua dikasih panggung, walau fokusnya emang tetep di Caw dengan Selina dan Lydia. Sementara untuk orang dewasa antara Caw dengan Crumb yang jadi mentornya dan juga Velma.
Seri Ferals sendiri berakhir di buku ketiga dimana di buku kedua ini ada beberapa misteri yang cukup bikin penasaran. Kayak kenapa kesannya feral gagak sangat penting padahal banyak feral binatang lain yang mungkin lebih kuat atau cerdas. Apalagi karena di buku ini banyak rahasia yang disembunyikan sama ibunya Caw, jadi kayaknya di buku ketiga bakal banyak yang dibahas.
Series yang recommended buat yang mau nyari urban fantasy untuk middle grade atau YA dengan tone cerita yang kelam dan suram.
