Suffering from gunshot wounds after a clash in London with a gunman from the Cavalo Marino drug cartel, South African born Andre Meyer, former British soldier and now Scotland Yard detective, returns to South Africa to recuperate from his injuries and to re-establish contact with his sister Janet. While following up on his childhood dream of seeing the legendary bull elephant, Ndlulamithi (Taller than the Trees), that his father once photographed many years ago in the Kruger National Park, Meyer is horrified to discover that the Cavalo Marino drug cartel is expanding its operations to include all of Southern Africa!

Tracking Evil: An African Adventure Story is a fast-paced thriller that blends international crime investigation with an adventurous and atmospheric African setting. The story follows Andre Meyer, a former soldier turned detective, as he is pulled into a dangerous cartel case while recovering from injury.
One of the strongest aspects of the book is its sense of scope. The narrative moves from personal recovery and family reconnection into a broader criminal investigation involving a powerful drug cartel, creating a strong escalation of stakes.
The African backdrop, particularly the references to Kruger National Park and the legendary elephant storyline, adds a unique and memorable layer to the thriller. It helps ground the action in a vivid environment while maintaining tension and momentum.
Overall, this is an engaging adventure thriller for readers who enjoy international crime stories, wildlife-rich settings, and high-stakes investigative narratives.
Really enjoyable read. A fresh new look at some of the problems presented in the bush. I expected a bit more plot complexity and perhaps he could have even raised the temperature a bit at times, but his character development was better than previously. A good bed-time thriller for a reader who enjoys the African adventure genre. Having read the Young Lions and Brave Young Men recently, I was surprised to see quite a different approach to this book, making me think Mr. Maxwell listened to what readers wanted and his style is still developing, which is great, because we don't need another Tony Park-wannabee or a Wilbur Smith-light, we want more of Tony Maxwell. I will read his books again and I can recommend this one.
Another great story by this author hence the 5 stars. Who is chasing who as the twist and turns of the story unfold. Who survived you will have to read the book to find out.
It was a fun read. But I struggled with a plot that never, ever changed. I would have expected it, and tried to track to make sure it would, but failed.
