How can you avoid your birthright when assassins seem determined to push you back towards it?
When Freya met back up with her friends after a year on the run, the last thing she expected was for one of Melody's relatives to start sending assassins after her.
Melody's mother was the Primary Heir to a great house of Atlantis, but she gave up her claim to come to Earth with her husband. She died trying to take back her inheritance after her family collapsed to infighting, but Melody never wanted to follow in her footsteps.
Despite being a hybrid, she is still the greatest threat to her uncle's power, and he won't let her ignore her birthright any longer.
TRIDENT is the eighth book in the Freya Snow urban fantasy series.
Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...
In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...
The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.
Not available KU so must have gotten it through one of my free book places or permafree and led here. Autistic character, unusual in a book, but the writer's other books also feature this, in the Lady Ruth Constance series.

Freya and Alex had to separate, and so now Freya is traveling back to her friends Sarah and Mel whom she hasn't seen in over a year. Out of the blue, Mel's relatives start sending assassins after her. Mel's mother was an heir to the House of Atlantis, but she gave it up for her human husband. She passed away trying to regain her inheritance, and Mel never wanted to follow in her footsteps. However, it seems that Mel's family will not let her run away any longer as being a hybrid is threatening her uncle's power. Freya, Sarah, and Mel must venture to Atlantis to try to pacify Mel's relatives.
I haven't received the chance to review many mermaid stories yet, but I absolutely adore stories about mermaids, or sirens, or underwater worlds in general. Therefore, I was expecting a lot out of this book, and boy did it deliver. Not only was I able to see Freya's development after her split with Alex, but I finally got some answers as to the backstory of Mel. It also made me happy that Mel was short for Melody, and that she was a mermaid, which is the same as Melody from one of my favorite Disney Movies "A Little Mermaid 2".
My favorite part of this book was definitely seeing them journeying through the waters of Atlantis and meeting other mermaids there. I won't spoil anything, but it was a really fun and nice experience.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a diverse action-adventure fantasy romance novel for teens and young adults.
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
I think I’ve lost track of how many Snowverse books there are now, but they keep getting better and better; more focused, the writing tighter, the characters more developed. Trident, the latest in the series, follows Freya as she accompanies her friends Mel and Sarah to the underwater realm of Atlantis. Mel is challenging the head of her Mer house for the right for Atlantean citizenship, and the quest she must undergo to gain that right needs all of Freya’s varied and multiple magical abilities to even give them a chance of succeeding.
Along with this fast-paced adventure, developments in both Freya’s personal life and in her existence in the Shadow Realm are entwined in the story, further framing Freya’s growth in her earthly life and in her life beyond Earth’s bounds. A fairly short novel at about 180 pages on my Kindle app, Trident kept me reading…I only put it down to watch the second-last episode of Doctor Who. Speaking of which, I think there’s a bit of an homage to the Tenth Doctor in Trident – if not, then ‘great minds think alike’ (or write alike!)) Five stars.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book takes place in the world of Atlantis, where Mel's people are from. The trio - Freya, Sarah and Mel - travel there after an assassin tries to kill Mel because of succession issues with her family House there. To ensure her safety, they have to undertake a potentially lethal mission to recover a Trident, which will mean the King of Atlantis must grant any request Mel makes, thus making her Head of her House, disowning the uncle who's trying to kill her, despite their objections because she's a hybrid. This book's well-written and full of action, adventure, great characters that drive the pace and plot, and it really keeps you hooked from beginning to end, through all the twists and turns. I really enjoyed reading it and can definitely recommend it to all Freya Snow lovers! NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Title: Trident Series: Freya Snow Author: L.C Mawson Page Count: 256 (Kobo) This is the 8th book in the Freya Snow series. As Freya and Alex have too make a heartbreaking decision (made me cry) Freya goes back home by herself. She is greeted by her family and her friends Mel and Sarah only for Mel to learn there's trouble in Atlantis that causes her to make a choice about going back and trying to get citizenship and reclam her home as her mother wanted before she died. To complete this task she must complete a task for the King should she complete the task her request will be granted. Along the way they make a new friend Kait who just so happens to be one of the King's children. As the adventure continues Mel has a theory about who Freya's father is and Freya is not a fan of her theory. Maybe i'm just a softy but this one made me cry but also laugh throughout it. Dont miss out on this adventure or the rest as we follow Freya and her friends too see what happens next.
I have adored the Snowverse stories ever since the very first one, but they are especially pleasurable now that their heroine, Freya Snow, is finally really mature and in command of her powers (notwithstanding her continued growth in power and in maturity both in the Shadow Realm and our real). Trident is a perfect example of this, a short and fast-paced tale full of thrills and adventure. Here Freya is accompanying her friends Mel and Sarah to Atlantis where Mel has to challenge the head of her Mer house for the right for Atlantean citizenship. Of course there's much more to it than that, and Freya is called in and her abilities thoroughly tested. Have no fear, however, as our wonderful heroine is up to the task and handles all that's needed in a thoroughly enjoyable fashion.
In this chapter of the continuing. saga that is Freya's life we have Freya on her own without Alex. She returns to the city and back with Sarah and Mel. Melody has decided that it is time to return to Atlantis and claim her mother's birthright. The king has tasked Mel with retrieving Triton's Trident. Upon it's return he will grant Mel citizenship and regard her as the head of the House of Coral. Freya, Sarah and Mel are joined in this quest by Princess Kait, who like Mel is a siren. Follow the girls on this journey. I highly recommend this series.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. Freya's returned and needs her friends, and learn how to move on. This time the main focus is on Mel, which is a nice change of pace. Freya and Sarah accompany Mel to Atlantis for the impossible. Assassins, monsters of the deep, and family secrets, oh my!
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story.https. This is # 8 in the series and it has a lot of surprises threw the whole story. Everytime I pick one of the books from this series I am surpried by how it is all so well written with strong charaters as well.
Trident was an incredibly interesting book to read. Taking place in a different setting than previous books, Trident explores the undersea kingdom of mermaids and the social issues that they have to deal with. This book also foreshadows future events that happen in the next book and next arc

Excellent continuation of this marvelous series! If you haven't followed Freya yet, you will want to after reading this, if you are into the series you won't want spoilers. Enjoy!
Fantastic. I was sceptical of the setting, I think because video games have made me distrust anything that reminds me of "water levels", but the worldbuilding was actually really interesting.
Loved how this book ties into the Castaway Heart Series. This book does not disappoint. The Freya Snow Series just gets better and better as it progresses.
