Scandalous in a Kilt is the third book in the award-winning, bestselling Hot Scots series of contemporary romances. Catch up with the MacTaggarts in the first two books, Dangerous in a Kilt and Wicked in a Kilt.
Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!
Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.
As for her writing, Anna has always invented stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.

SCANDALOUS IN A KILT (Hot Scots #3) by Anna Durand is the third book in this contemporary romance series that had my emotions all over the place and that is what I always hope for when reading a romance. I was happy, sad, understanding, mad, frustrated and completely satisfied right along with each main character. Ms. Durand made Rory and Emery come to life!
Emery Granger has been downsized. As a last hoorah before she has to make decisions regarding her future, she takes off to New Orleans to forget her problems for a weekend. Sitting at the hotel bar, fresh off the plane, Emery is approached by a gorgeous, hot Scot in a kilt with a proposition.
Rory MacTaggart is in New Orleans on business. A successful Scottish solicitor by day, he has had no luck at love. After surviving three failed marriages, he no longer believes in love. Seeing his brothers’ wedded bliss with their American wives, he decides after his night with Emery to offer her a contracted marriage with many rules, but no emotions.
As free-spirited Emery adjusts to her new life in Scotland, her new husband and all of his rules, she begins to discover the true Rory hidden behind the hardened shell of hurt around his heart. Their relationship is passionate, but can she break through and help Rory to love again?
The premise of this romance is not new, but Emery and Rory make it exceptional. I love how Emery knows herself and what is truly of value in life. Even as she takes some emotional knocks at she tries to get through to Rory, she is not a doormat. Rory is successful, hot and so lonely. I believe Ms. Durand very successfully portrayed a man hurt to the extreme, but who is willing to slowly learn to love and trust again with the right person.
As in all of this series, the sex is explicit and smokin’ hot, but I did not feel it was gratuitous. The relationship rules and breakdown of those rules fit into their growing relationship realistically. This book can be read as a standalone, but I feel you will want to read about the other two brothers and their American wives, too. I have enjoyed this whole series, but Emery and Rory have stolen my heart and are now my favorites!

I found this book discounted on Amazon via The Fussy Librarian; this is my honest review. -Emery's only goals in life are to do nothing all day, have sex, and turn Rory a good 160 degrees. -Rory's goals are to follow rules, be the best lover ever and stay away from Emery emotionally. -It's a very emotional book but didn't get drawn in because there was so much drama I couldn't take it. -I was glad to see Rory's family again. -There is no way this book is only 280 pages. It took me over 12 hrs to read it and should have taken me less than 6 for that page count. -Editing needs another pass: food vs. foot; I'm sure vs. I'm not sure, here again is "flagrante" all alone and missing the "delicto", etc. -It's not my favorite of the three but it's still a good book and I don't regret buying it.

This is the third installment in the Hot Scott series and I believe this is my favorite one yet. I need to reiterate that each book is a standalone and they don’t need to be read in order if the reader chooses not to. I recommend reading each one only to enhance the enjoyment of the series. Reading each one is not necessary in order to understand the plot.
I loved Rory and Emery, I loved their chemistry, their bantering, her unwavering belief in him, and their relationship, and most of all I loved her humor. Take one extremely repressed man and one free spirited woman and you get some seriously hot scenes and very fierce chemistry.
Emery is a free spirit who enjoys life, and doesn’t take herself too seriously. She has a compassionate loving nature and tries very hard to understand where another person is coming from. She’s not perfect, but she tries to be aware of her flaws and to accept other people’s flaws as well.
Rory is….gosh Rory is beyond complex, he’s mind boggling, but in a good way. He’s had some major emotional damage done to him by his ex wives, and it broke my heart when he shared some of his past dealings with them. I felt so sorry for him. Emery did too and I loved that about her.
Despite Rory’s emotional baggage, he has a sweet tender side to him that he reluctantly shows to Emery and the reader at various points in the book. I love his absolute bafflement when it comes to Emery and her zest for life and her girlyness. It’s adorable, even though he doesn’t like to be called adorable. I also love Emery’s nick name for Rory….the reader will have to read to find out what it is. It fits, at least in my opinion.
I think the reader should give this series a try, and I think the reader should give this book a try. Hot Scottish men picking women up in kilts and talking dirty in a foreign language? How could the reader go wrong?
Emery and Rory have anything but a conventional relationship. What starts out as a one night stand turns into an arranged marriage within the week. Rory thinks he can use Emery to get his family off his back and Emery looks at Rory’s proposal as an adventure. But neither one of them expected the real feelings that begin to develop.
I received Scandalous in a Kilt as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
After being laid off from her computer programming job, Emery Granger takes a no-frills vacation to New Orleans, where she crosses paths with Rory MacTaggart, a handsome Scottish lawyer. After a steamy night together, Rory is resigned to it being just that--one night. But Rory, thrice divorced and desperate to get his meddling siblings off his back, makes her an offer that's impossible to refuse: marry him for a year and receive a handsome payout. But when the ceremony is over and the pair takes up residence in Rory's romantic Scottish estate, they find themselves exploring not only each other's bodies, but their minds and hearts as well. Can they put away past hurts to turn their marriage of convenience into a real one?
The sex scenes in this one were ultra hot, and that was where the true strength of the book lies. The romance fell a little flatter--I didn't love the repeated pet name endearments (baby, etc.). It was just a bit...too much for me. Also the children storyline felt pretty heavy-handed--we all knew she was going to be pregnant by the end (and she was). I felt like there was some subtlety lacking in the more touchy-feely parts. If you're looking for some scorching love scenes, though, this is the stuff.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Oh, my heart goes out to Rory. His heart has been so trampled on by his three ex-wives, it's a wonder he didn't become a monk. He has no confidence left in his ability to maintain a relationship, but he makes up for it with supreme confidence in his work and in his ability to seduce and please a woman in bed. He tries to convince himself that this is enough, that his passion for his work can effectively fill the hole in his heart. Until his newly-married brothers all but dare him to find his own bride. Something he wouldn't have even considered, had he not encountered the sumptuous Emery, a free-spirited firecracker who never met a rule she wouldn't dance around, nor has she ever met a man worth risking her heart for again.
Rory puts his legal mind to work after one unforgettable night with Emery, and proposes a fake marriage contract that will placate his family and satisfy his bedroom needs, as well as securing Emery's financial future, with the strict stipulation that love will simply not play any part in this arrangement. He thinks he's got it all figured out, but his heart isn't down for the count yet.
Emery just got laid off, and she's ready for a change of scenery. A year in the Scottish Highlands seems like a great idea, a chance to sort out what she wants while she helps Rory sort out his overwhelming need for control and order.
Slowly, walls are broken down and the light of hope starts peeking through the cracks. Their sexual chemistry is out of this world, but they're both having a hard time keeping their hearts out of the bedroom. Oh yes, their love scenes are downright dirty, but in the best way and for the purpose of furthering the story because it is only in this realm that raw honesty has a chance of being heard.
Emery is the true hero here, a woman who knows how to value the important things in life. Rory is a work-in-progress, a man who learns to trust his heart and allow himself to really live. As much as I loved the first two books in this series, and I really love Lachlan and Aidan and their wives, I think this is my favorite story of the three. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
To my female readers; envision this scenario and tell me how you’d respond. You’re sitting at the hotel bar in New Orleans, alone, having a quiet drink after a long flight. You were laid off from your computer programming job just prior to leaving for an unplanned three day weekend vacation in NOLA. A drop-dead gorgeous Scot in a kilt sits down on the adjacent bar stool and proceeds to invite you to join him in his room for “one night only” of some hot, mindless, no-strings sex.
This is the situation in which Emery Granger finds herself. After a few questions, the free-spirited Emery feels comfortable enough with Rory McTaggert that she throws all caution to the winds and asks herself “Why the hell not?” Now you and I can probably think of a few dozen reasons why not but let’s give Emery the green light to go with Rory’s proposal and see what happens. What happens is the best sexual experiences of her life.
Rory is an uptight and controlling solicitor (lawyer) by day and an incredibly talented lover by night. He’s survived three failed marriages and has no desire to try a fourth time but his family won’t let the idea go. Rory and Emery’s one-night stand turns into a marriage of convenience and Rory whisks Emery off to his castle in Scotland. Yes, an honest-to-God castle. Emery weathers the culture shock reasonably well but Rory’s need for control as a means of maintaining order in his life presents her with the most important challenge of her life.
“Scandalous in a Kilt” is Book three in author Anna Durand’s Hot Scots series. The characters are multi-faceted, the plot is straightforward with enough tension to keep things interesting and hold the reader’s attention and the narrative flows smoothly. Fair warning: This story offers up a heaping serving of explicit sex. However, it’s not gratuitous. It’s simply that both Emery and Rory have very active libidos. Several times I thought the wallpaper was going to start peeling off the walls because of the steam emanating from the pages of this book. A sizzling hot four stars.
SCANDALOUS IN A KILT is the third book in the Hot Scots series. While each book is centered on one couple leading to their HEA, it is best to read them in the order of release.
Let’s start with that delicious kilt. First, Lachlan visits America and he goes to a bar on kilt night where he meets Erica. Then when Aidan also visits the Chicago area, Lachlan tricks him into believing that every Friday is kilt night at the club, Dance Ardor. Calli meets him there. Up until now, we’ve been lead to believe that Rory was so uptight and straight-laced that he would never set aside any propriety. He is, but he has fallen prey to Aidan’s wager about wearing a kilt in a public place while visiting New Orleans in America. That’s how he meets Emery who is also visiting NOLA on vacation.
I don’t know who I love more, Rory or Emory. They are complete opposites and yet so perfect together.
The trope is familiar: a contractual marriage – a marriage of convenience – that leads to more, yet there was so much more feeling to this one than many that I have read. They did not fall in lust and then in love. Though we are getting the story from Emery’s POV, I swear it felt unbiased to say that Rory fell first. Still he fought hardest and longest or did he? Yes, I know that’s cryptic. You’ll have to read it to know what that means, because I’d hate to give away the good twists!
This one has to be my favorite in the series, but there are more siblings. I hope there will be more kilts and fun.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: SCANDALOUS IN A KILT Series: Hot Scots #3 Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: B – a few errors Received from: Anna Durand (as an ARC gifted copy)
I fell in love with Emery and Rory from their first steamy meeting and loved them through the end of their HEA.
Emery is on a brief vacation in New Orleans and celebrating being out of the drudgery of her job for a few days. Resolving to let her wild and crazy side out to play for just a few days until she returns to empty her desk and begin looking for a serious job, she heads to the famous Pat O'Brien's piano bar for a Hurricane to put her in the mood for adventure.
Rory is a man of mystery. When the deliciously handsome Scot in a kilt and Emery meet, the sparks begin to fly and Emery is immediately intrigued by his reserve and rules.
Their initial one-night-stand leads to a stunningly quick marriage of convenience and the adventure is on. Emery transforms herself from a computer programmer into a personal therapist whose one-woman mission is to help Rory recover from three failed marriages and find happiness.
Throughout delightful Scottish encounters and a 2nd wedding for the pair, Emery is determined to show a reluctant Rory that he can achieve his own happily ever after (hopefully with her).
When Emery's past comes back to cast a cloud over their new-found happiness, will Emery be able to trust Rory to be there for her? Can Rory toss aside his carefully cultivated barrister's cool reserve to show Emery he loves her and that he can be as free-spirited as she?
Scandalous in a Kilt is the third book in Anna Durand's Hot Scots series - I'd recommend all three!
This is the 3rd book in the series of the Hot Scottish Mac Taggart Brothers and this is Rory’s story. Rory is a lawyer and coming out from 3 failed marriages he has given up on love and relationships, his family keep bugging him about trying again so he does the only thing that he can think of and that’s getting himself a trophy wife. He wants everything a wife can give him but love that’s a big no in his books. Emery gets sacked from her computer programming job which she is thankful for the only problem is that she doesn’t have any other skills and very little money left to live on. Emery takes off to New Orleans where she bumps into the sexy Scot Rory Mac Taggart and after their one night stand Rory offers Emery a proposition a marriage of convience and she agrees. Emery has a hard time adjusting to life in Scotland and to her husbands rules so Emery shows Rory just what she’s made of. I loved this story and the clashes of culture, a stubborn American woman who does t like rules and a Scot that must have rules and order in his life. Those two are such funny characters together and such passion wow I need to get myself a hot Scot, this was such a fantastic read I totally love this series and I can’t wait for book 4 Gift Wrapped. I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read, this book well actually all of this series are more than 5 ⭐️ reads.
Things that bugged me about this book: Calling him Baby all the time. Gag Trying to change him all the time in such a condescending way. “I’m with you because you have the potential to evolve & I’m going to help you with that” wtf!? All the incredibly immature language coming out of the heroines mouth to make her seem carefree just made her sound like a 13 year old! Fluro Pink top, ankle socks with matching pink scrunchie & purse…. seriously? Again, this is meant to be a 34 year old right? Finding how uptight he is…. Adorable. (Did I mention condescending?) Rory is a selfish dick. Which he regularly acknowledges and apologises and feels so terrible about… then immediately does it again. And the heroines only response is to forgive him, call him baby and open her legs immediately.
Things I liked 5/5 steam factor holy cow!
Soft porn, RIPPED rich dude, needs you to marry him NOW, works all the time but doesn’t actually do any work, wants to take you away to his castle, where you never have to work again, to f*ck you to death, while your 2 biggest problems is what to do with you day and when is my rich ripped husband going to f*ck you again.
Solid fantasy porn for women don’t take it in any way seriously and you’re good. Enjoy your porn and shut up about it lol
Lachlan came to America for an American fling and ended up with an American wife. Aiden, comes to Chicago to find himself a wife, so thinks it should be easy following his brother's steps. He also meets his future bride int he same bar in Chicago, but has to work hard to get her to agree. Middle brother Rory, is in New Orleans on business, but sees Emery at a bar and is immediately enchanted, but after 3 failed marriages, was only interested in a one night stand. Emery had just been down sized from her boring job as a computer programer and was in the Big Easy for some fun, so "one scandalous night with a stranger" was enticing. But then Rory makes her an offer she can't refuse. To appease his family he offers her a marriage contract for a year, during which she can find a life passion and afterwards to be compensated with half a million dollars. This uptight guy has been burned, but Emery sees something in the sexy guy and agrees, not for the money, but to help him to learn to have fun again. Will she succeed? This is a fun, well written and appealing series with endearing characters. I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed.
Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.
Scandalous in a Kilt was my favorite in the Hot Scots series. It was one of those books that’s pure fun. The story is fairly light and very entertaining. Emery and Rory have an immediate, intense sexual attraction. That attraction leads to a one night stand. Both are thrown off by a chemistry that is off the charts. They don’t plan on seeing each other again, but are soon in a contract marriage. Of course, the marriage ends up being more than just a contract. I would like to say it’s not all about Emery and Rory’s intimate endeavors, but it pretty much is. There’s not a ton of depth to the characters, but there’s enough to make the story believable.
Overall, Scandalous in a Kilt was scandalous (like it’s title), and an enjoyable read. It’s one to add to your TBR if you like hot Scots, men with accents, and steamy scenes.
I have not read the first two books in this series, but they can all be read separately. Emery is a girl who wants a new direction in life. She was laid off but is not even sure she wants to stay in her current career field. In walks Rory, a sexy Scot. They have a one night stand, but Rory starts thinking of more. It starts as the typical, hey lets get married to get my family off my back book, but I felt this one was a little different than the other books like that. Emery needs a change and Rory needs to loosen up. I did not feel Emery wanted to change Rory, like in other books where the girl thinks she can change the guy. Emery just wanted to bring out his fun side. Of course they fall in love, but Rory has been burned by women before so he is trying to hold back. I enjoyed it. I felt like it picked up more in the second half.
"You've had fun with me, haven't you?" "Cannae help it, you insist on making me do ridiculous things."
Holy hell what a book! This is an extraordinary story. It is so completely well written and thought through.
This is Roy's story and how he met and fell for Emery. They meet in new Orleans and out of all the girls in the bar it's Emery that grabs his attention and after one night he decides he wants her to be his not so fake wife to get his family of his back. But his ordered world is not ready for an. She is slowly changing him. His past marriages have shaped him. And what they did was so wrong. But when scandal threatens to ruin it all. Now he just needs to figure out how he truly feels for her or he may like the best thing that has ever happened to him. Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.
Anna Durand’s, “Scandalous in a Kilt (Hot Scots Book 3),” is the third installment in her series, where Rory is a stereotypical, masculine Scottish man meeting with Emery, a young woman who is drained from her daily grind. These two unexpectedly meet and hook up, leading to a quick marriage that is ultimately a true test to their personalities due to the fact that they had such strong ideals, but now had to come together into one relationship. Some aspects seem a bit ridiculous, such as the quick marriage and Rory feeling pressured after his previous failed attempt, like at that point why bother, but overall it still is a entertaining romance. After all, what actually makes it realistic, as is it is a romance, but it’s fine because it’s fun to read. The development of their relationship is entertaining to watch as they grow as a couple because of how they clash.
Scandalous in a Kilt (Hot Scots Book 3) by Anna Durand is a fantastic mix of real romantic plot and steamy sex. Rory and Emery meet in New Orleans on Emerys first night in town. They agree to a steamy one night stand but one thing leads to another and they end up in a marriage of convenience. Like any romance novel they have their differences and everything isn’t cookie cutter perfect, but the sex is always amazing. Rory and Emery have a lot of chemistry but do they have what it takes to make a marriage work? I loved this book, I loved the characters and the story line, the sex scenes were thorough and very…. Enlightening! The characters were relatable and I instantly liked them, and was pulling for their relationship to hit new levels. It was a perfect summer read! I look forward to reading more from Anna Durand!
Can I just address the title real quick? It made me both giggle and blush. A bit cheese and cheeky. But hey, it’s a romance novel and a fun light summer read.
Now I did read these books out of order, but I was able to pick up on the story fairly easily. You certainly are not reading these books for the relationship advice, but more like a guilty pleasure to get into. There is a ton of drama and steamy scenes to get into. There are far away destination to add to the already dreamy yet thrilling nature of the book. I found few slow moments, which made me all the more interested in reading just one more page.
If you are looking to get caught up in a series to read by the pool or at night before bed, this is the perfect one for you. It has it all, plus a little bit more. Plus kilts.
This is entertaining, romantic and engrossing. Rory is stubborn, insecure, caring unpredictable, cold and sweet. Emery is smart, hyper, personable and stubborn. A one night stand turns into a one year marriage of convenience. Rory thought to keep his family off his back, Emery thought to put a little fun into Rory's life, and to get a new start. But while Emery wouldn't mind the marriage lasting for longer than a year, Rory refuses to have feelings for her. The storyline is full of sweetness, angst and snarky comments. This is a great series and this book does not disappoint. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Goodreads. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I bought this book after I finished the first two books. The couples face different problems, so each story follows a different path. In this book Rory, three times divorced and not ready for a relationship meets Emery in a bar and offers her a marriage of convenience. Emery accepts and the move to Scotland where Emery swears she'll help upright Rory remember how to have fun.
I loved this book and I hope there are more to come. Rory was the last of the brothers, but he has several sisters. Jamie has a man in her sights already, so I'm hopeful.
2.50 Stars I am a sucker for a marriage of convenience themed book, but this book was a disappointment. It stars an outgoing American, Emery, and a uptight Scotch, Rory. The book starts out with Rory being anything but uptight, but that quickly changes. I did not like his robot personality and could easily see why he was divorced three times. Emery deserved better. Needless to say, I never bought into their union. It certainly was a steamy relationship, although too many detailed sex scenes that didn’t add to the story. I found myself liking the Scottish parts of the story the best. I actually got bored half way through, so I skipped a few chapters and read the predictable ending.
Love the candid descriptions of Skye Island as seen through this author who writes of the modern Scotland with all the anger, lust, love a man lost and forlorn who wants to live and yet does not know how. She also describes how not only 1 but 2 people who have either greed or lies and how they can screw with a person's mind and their own perspective of themselves! I must remind any reader that this character worked to make money but did not work on healing themselves along their journey in life! Sometime it takes a tragedy for people to really know how they feel for the people in their lives!
Another amazing Scotland book full of spice, reluctance and bit of scandal. This is Rory and Emery's story. Rory has a broken heart from his previous marriages and only wants what any man wants, sex without attachment, until he meets Emery and all that goes out the window. Lots of hot sex scene's flow throughout this book along with a coldness from Rory that Emery has to try to break through. Great book, and I look forward to more writings from this Author.
I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book for free to review.
Anna Durand has created another wonderful addition for her Hot Scotts series. Rory and Emery are sizzling beneath the sheets but he's reluctant to allow himself to feel any emotions. Emery a fiesty caring free spirit is determine to open Rory to possibilities of fun and love. The chemistry between them is off the charts and while sometimes painful to see Rory's "coldness" to Emery it makes his breakthrough as a warm caring man all the sweeter. I received an advance reader copy of this book.
I really enjoyed the first two "xxx in a Kilt" books and this third installment did not disappoint. It starts off quite steamy with an instant attraction between the h and H. As we later learn in the story, Rory has his reasons for being wary of relationships. Fortunately, his reserve is not "magically" overcome, but is very slowly thawed by the vivacious Emery. I received a free advance copy and voluntarily posted this review.
This #3 book of Hot Scots is the story of Rory and Emery and has a very different storyline compared to the other books. A storyline which I really loved! After three divorces Rory only cares for one night stands and is immediately attracted to Emery when he lays eyes on her. Emery just recently broke up with her boyfriend and is ready to have some fun. But -of course- it doesn’t end after one night.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily chose to review.
Read these books in a trilogy pack. First Lachlan was awesome I loved his story with Erica. The highs and lows and then how he went about apologising to her. Was an awesome read. Then Aidens story with Calli, how there was a mix up in the beginning as to who he was supposed to be till finally getting it together so they could be together. Rory’s to me was the best. I just loved Emery and her outlook on life. How she showed him how to live and love again. The narration was awesome too.
What starts out as a marriage of convenience turns into a passionate sexual love story. Rory struggles with the rules he set up in their marriage contract. In doing so he falls more in love with Emery each day. After a scandal in the local paper that also involves Emery, Rory does whatever it takes to clear up the falsehood. A well written tale in the adventures of the MacTaggart family.
Emery meets Rory in a bar in New Orleans while on vacation. They hooked up and he decides that they should have a marriage of convenience. Rory has been married three times and wants to get his family off his back. He is worried about marrying for love again and thinks the best way to save his heart. Emery is a free spirit and Rory is an uptight solicitor. I have enjoyed this series and this book was a great addition to this series. I can't wait to read more.
