If I could send you home, I would.

More than two decades prior it was prophesied that the King of Darkness would rise again and reek havoc in the Kingdom of Reverieland and only one person can stop him.
When a drunken Wizard accidentally chooses the wrong 'Chosen One', David gets sucked into a realm which he cannot leave for fear of the wrong people finding out the fire mistake.

Quests and Oddysseys: TheNot Quite Chosen One is a fantasy novella by Greg J. McArthur.
This book is full of adventure but also has a satirical undertone to it, with a drunken Wizard who says the weirdest things.
The humourous part is he tries to be funny intentionally but clearly fails most of the time which may not get a launch but maybe a smile or a chuckle.
The story is pretty amusing itself with David who went from being a nobody to somebody to nobody again but is still trying to prove his worth but no one has any faith in him.
But there wasn't any visible character development in him and the ending went from 0-100 with the snap of a finger which felt a bit off putting. For me the story felt more focused on vthe Wizard than David and if it was he who stole the show (the story?) for me with his goofy character and backstory.
The ending has left the next book open to a lot of possibilities for David so I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.

This book was awesome. Loved how it was like a parody of lord of the rings and other fantasy movies and novels but not to the point where I had to be an expert on any of them.

The jokes were hilarious including the groaner puns and the Wellend joke. Knowing the author fairly well, his humour lept off the page. Also I'm a sucker for meta and self aware humour too.

The character development of Murblo was on point. Him in general was hilarious. And I can see the growth of David and Sonya although not a dramatic as Murblo. The author really let the characters be present and comfortable in the world and allowed the audience to get to know them. I can see that there could be potential growth in latter novels.

Overall is was very enjoyable.

"To what? Be sadly mistaken for a hero again?

Book One in the Quests and Oddyssey's Series. A comical fantasy Novella. Satire, puns, adventure and lots of fun. There are your typical fantasy characteristics such as realms, magic, demi-gods, wizards, creatures, a dragon and more. However, it's what I would call a fractured fantasy. David - the not quite Chosen One is mistaken as the hero. He becomes more of a liability than a hero but as the journey continues on his character develops in strength. He becomes brave. He is on his own quest to discover himself. Murblo the old drunk Wizard also grows and develops as the story progresses. Can David, Murblo, Sonya (heir to the throne) and other past-prime warriors save the world of Reverieland from Tezra and the forces of evil set to destroy them all. Read it.

Enjoy x

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, so I decided to switch things up with a quick read, and wow, was it the perfect pick-me-up! Greg J McArthur’s comedy-novella ‘Quest and ODDysseys’ had me literally laughing out loud. It’s a lighthearted, easy fantasy quest that just hits right when you need something fun.

Marlow, the drunken wizard with his “wet your trousers” spells, and David, the “stubborn, poorly built man from another world with zero fighting skills,” had me rooting for them through every ridiculous moment! 😂 The author’s knack for breaking the fourth wall kept it fresh and hilarious. Can’t wait to see where David’s adventure takes him next! 📜✨

This book was so delightfully funny - I can't even count how many times I laughed out loud. The author has created a humorous fantasy tale filled with characters that had me cackling. I enjoyed all the jokes, the adventures, and of course, Murblo. Looking forward to reading the next in the series!
