The clandestine Ground Division has a single mission. They exist for the sole purpose to take on tasks the United States government doesn’t want to be implicated in. They work in the shadow of the Central Intelligence Agency, but the men of the Ground Division are not CIA agents. Many of them come from the ranks of America’s greatest war fighters— Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines, but the men of the Ground Division are not military; They are ghosts. They are off the books of any official government roster.
This is a story of heroism, betrayal and vengeance. I hope you enjoy Blackbird.
This short Novella was originally included in the Origins of Honor Charity Box set for the Oscar Mike Foundation. It’s now available in its entirety exclusively on Amazon.
W. J. Lundy is a still serving Veteran of the U.S. Military with service in Afghanistan. He has over 12 years of combined service with the Army and Navy in Europe, the Balkans and Southwest Asia. W.J. is an avid athlete, writer, backpacker and shooting enthusiast. He currently resides with his wife and daughter in Central Michigan.
I developed the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot series from notes and ideas I had put together while deployed to Afghanistan. I had been jokingly asked how we would defend against a zombie attack.
I wanted to tell a story that portrays the military that I know, that displays our actual capabilities. These are my thoughts, I hope you enjoy them, and thank you for reading.
Michigan author WJ Lundy has extensive experience in the military, serving as Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy in Europe, Southeast Asia, the Balkans, and as a Veteran continuing his service in Afghanistan. For those who were introduced to him in the fine ORIGINS OF HONOR anthology with other fine writers, this release of BLACKBIRD is especially appreciated, as it appears to be the prequel to his TOMMY DONOVAN series! Lundy’s many books include his series WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT, THE SOLDIER, THE INVASION, as well as his shared-author books – THE CREEED and FIVE ROADS TO TEXAS among others.
BLACKBIRD is a chapbook or novella or short story because of its length (seventy pages), but the impact of the story matches the power of his full court novels. Even the opening lines demonstrate Lundy’s prowess in delineating military language as well as his skill in opening a terrorism thriller: ‘The Polish-made Mil Mi-2 Hoplite helicopter tracked low and fast over the Liberian coastline. The crew stayed locked forward, ignoring the passengers strapped to jump seats in the back. They were disguised as Liberian Air Force, but the bird had no flight plan, and the path was not secure. The aircrew all wore black jumpsuits with AFL patches on the sleeves and, if pressed, they would feign being members of the Liberian Armed Forces. Sure, it could cost them their lives if captured, but risk came with the reward of the bonus check they would receive later…’
What follows in some in-depth information about the Ground Division (and of course Tommy Donovan) that plays the major role in this series: ‘The clandestine Ground Division has a single mission. They are off the books of any official government roster.’
Quality writing, vivid attention to detail, and fast paced, this is an excellent introduction to the art of WJ Lundy and is bound to attract an even a larger audience to his work. Recommended.

Once again W.J. Lundy combines great characters with hard hitting military action. This book gives us a look at the early days of the of the Ground Division. Great read with a fast pace. If you like military fiction this book is for you.
W.J.Lundy has created a Great Character. Jack Ryan, and Jack Reacher would have liked Tommy Donavon and his Blackbeard team. He has created a storyline that was tense and very intriguing. A Very Good. Santa Mike ,,
