As one of the very few books I've read in a single sitting, Trandahl's Good Brave People stands out as a beautiful piece of fiction. Set during the early new millennium, Good Brave People is the Hemingway-esque story of an author vacationing in Spain's Basque country and searching for inspiration for his own novel. In a time when most stories told simply rehash cliché plots, crises, and characters, it's actually quite refreshing to read a book of elegant simplicity. The protagonist, Jasper Augustine, is a relatable man who spends his month in Spain traveling, dining, and finding love in the city of San Sebastian and the surrounding countryside.
Good Brave People is a heartfelt and cheering novel, and the next best thing to going on your own vacation.
Loved it! Ready to pack my bags and head to Spain's Basque country! A perfect read for these crazy times we are currently experiencing. A good story, well developed characters, the food descriptions I would say are also great characters. Pick this book up, pack yourself a picnic and laze all day underneath tree by a cool stream and enjoy!
An utterly charming adventure into a gorgeous landscape, a whirlwind romance, and regional epicurean delights. Trandahl has managed to create a simple escape in difficult times - making the Basque country an irresistible backdrop to a journey of the heart and of the palate.
A beautiful tale of wonder and a restless soul finding what home really can be. The stunning imagery allows the reader to almost taste the foods, smell the aromas and feel the breezes of the Bay of Biscay.
