Paralysis

Rate this book
"Having great power makes any mage a prime target."

Alex is beaten. Melissa is ambushed. Where do they go from here? Don’t let go. They aren’t ready.

Alex is a coward and ignorance is all he knows. On him, Kaiga does not hold back. Information floods him and his mind is pressed for answers, does he have the one they seek? Or will he be deemed worthless?

Sheltered in a world that only knows restriction, Melissa has battles brought to her. Victashia has been waiting. It has been a hundred years since Kaiga has launched full war and their enemy is in no mood to let their prime weapon mature. Seemingly assaulted out of nowhere by a full-fledged adversary, Melissa is brought to face a test of her abilities.

Will she live, or will she fall?

In the anticipated sequel to Paragon, the plot heats up in a nonstop rush of action. Paralysis is the fast-paced continuation of an intricate storyline. Fantastic detail is interwoven with the magical mystery of an expanding world. As the wider scope deepens conflict ignites into a turn pager that doesn't stop once it really begins.

"Paralysis" is a good name for this section of the story, for while we readers learn a great deal about the mysterious Kaiga that created Melissa and is in the process of swallowing Alex, our protagonists both find themselves trapped, and don't seem to be able to do anything about it.
Alex begins to get an inkling of what his future in the desert land might be like after his lesson in manipulating the country's energy force, known as "titus." Unfortunately, the future doesn't look pleasant.
The whining Melissa finds herself caught up in an epic, but rather one-sided, battle against one of her country's most formidable foes. It's still hard to gauge where the author is going with this part of the story, and with Melissa in particular, but there's still time. I get the feeling that the various components that make up Melissa are beginning to disintegrate, or separate...I was expecting her to either accept that she is what she was made to be, or fall apart completely, but she did neither. So we'll see what's up next.

I received a free copy of this ARC for the purpose of giving an honest review.

P.S. I think it would be helpful for readers to think of these books not as semi-autonomous installments in a series, but as "Part One, Part Two," etc. in the same big book—rather like the Lord of the Rings trilogy was originally conceived. The story arc and character development has to be seen as a whole, over the whole series, because if you're expecting to see it reflected in miniature in the individual novels, you'll be disappointed.

All your stubborn personality goes away when you start seeing death!

This second volume of the Dark Light series was quite the change from the first one! I much rather enjoyed this one since there was much more action and things happening! Here we actually saw a plot, part of a story, even though it still feels like we don't know half of it!

Titus is the what we'd call magic and the rules applied to it are interesting and different, in a way, to what we're used to see!

I really enjoyed knowing a weaker and more broken side of Melissa in this book, her stubborn personality fading away as she sees what the world really is!!

As for Alex, I'm curious to see what's reserved for him, and the fact that he still haven't met Melissa stirred some theories in my head!!

The ending isn't much of a cliffhanger and again it feels like the author simply cut through a chapter to have it starting in the next book!

Again, the writing is simple and fluid, easy to follow and the plot grips you nicely! Plus the battle scenes are intense and you feel like you don't want to put it down!

Thanks D. J. Hoskins for the opportunity to read and review this book!!

This book was freely given to me by the author through BookSirens in exchange for an honest review!!

Alex and Melissa have returned, and it has only gotten worse for them in this nonstop sequel to Paragon.

Having sworn his allegiance, he thinks things will change. In a way, they do but not for the better. Now that they know he has abilities, they must also gauge his usefulness in the ongoing, through at times hidden war raging between the two ruling states. Alex is a tool and less than human to them.

Melissa is Paragon and the Shadow is not impressed. When the peace ends in a fiery attack on her convoy, very few survive. The unlucky few who do manage to do so are not spared for long. Melissa must escape her enemy as she struggles to survive.

A world at war is never settled and this is a wonderful example of an adventure story that won't quit winding you up until the very final word. I am eagerly awaiting the third segment of the series.

I was not sure what to expect with this follow up to be honest. The first book had me wondering about our heroine but less interested in the hero. However, having just digested this story I'm glad I read it. The pace was full steam ahead throughout. The ending leaves you with just enough questions to keep you interested. And most importantly to me, I no longer am clueless if I care about our hero. The writing is good enough to keep me going but I can't place my finger on exactly why it seems a little sophomoric. It is entirely possible that I simply am too old for the target audience. But it is a solid 4! Well done!

This story roars out of the first sentence like a controlled explosion. This is book two in the series closely following the book Paragon’s ending. The further development of the characters fills them out is as needed. The world building is first rate and fills the needs of the book. But it does all this while telling a story that gets more engrossing by the page. Needless to say I enjoyed this book very much. I recommend this book unequivocally. I do recommend you read Paragon (the first book in the series) first it’s a great read too.

Paralysis (Dark Light, #2), my second short read from author D.J. Hoskins, an author I'd not heard of before reading Paragon (Dark Light, #1). December seemed to be my month for new authors and January looks to continue the trend. I was gifted a free copy and I'm voluntarily reviewing it because every good books need reviews. I'm not a particular fan of sci-fic. Personally, I prefer mystery and thrillers. Still, I look forward to more from this author, now I need to get Panic (Dark Light #3) before reading the fourth book of the Dark Light series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

MOVING ON TO MORE EXCITEMENT
Alex is beaten and Melissa is ambushed these are the main characters of the book.
What will happen next.
Will Mellisa survive the attack and use her abilities or will she fail this test.
Will Alex get better and learn more.
The exciting sequel to Paragorn just gets better.
This series is so different the characters go from a normal world only to be put in a new world it is interesting to see how they cope with a different life, new surroundings.

Worlds at war using people who do not recognize their full power and capabilities. Will survival for both worlds be possible? The ruling by force and without questioning will prevail? Unfortunately, these fictional worlds are not so different or distant from the world we live in.... hopefully, the fictional worlds will be wiser. Let´s see what the next book in the series will bring! Entertaining!!!

This continuation gives us some more insight into the world of Kaiga. We get some action, some awesome titus use, and some rules/expectations of the dictatorship. The ending was a cliffhanger, not giving the reader full understanding and just letting them wonder what it means until the next book is read.

The mystery continues and I am enjoying the build up of each character. It's going to be interesting to know what talents each of them have, how they're going to meet, and what are they up against. So many questions and lots of intrigue.

This is the 2nd book I've read written by D.J. Hoskins; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

Paralysis is an action packed, edge of your seat, page turner! When you think you have an idea of what might happen to the character, you are surprised with a turn of events. The introduction into a world not anything like our own.

Superb. Alex and Melissa are trapped and don’t know what to do next. Short but fascinating Falls in place after the first one.

Paralysis is the second book in Dark Light Series. If you have read the first part, then I would strongly recommend you to go for this part. The writer has focussed more on Melissa and the Victashian. The battle scene portrayed by the writer is equally marvellous. I was really amazed with Alex’s abilities. But the climax is saved for the third part of the book.
