Lily Snow awoke in a medical facility with no memory of who she was or how she came to be there, bloodied and battered.
She's told that she was attacked by magical beings, simply for being human. She's told that she's there for her own protection. She's told that the medicine she's taking is to help her recover.
But as her memories start to return, she's not so sure that any of that is true. Not to mention the ghost who keeps appearing, and telling her to get out. Before it's too late.
TRAPPED is a prequel novella to the Freya Snow series. Other Freya Snow Books include: HUNT THE SHORT STORY COLLECTION WHITE WINGS
Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...
In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...
The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.
Lily Snow is trapped in a lab, pestered by a ghost of someone she probably should recognise and beset by memories of lifetimes that may or may not be her own...
I'm in two minds on reviewing this prequel novella. It's a well paced, well written, gradually understandable story - no mean feat given it hops between timelines and worlds. However, being new to the Freya Snow series, I had no grounding in the concepts or characters and so felt confused for the majority of the time. Every time I started to understand, something else would bother me. This Queen, that Queen, magic v Humans, wait, something about timelines..? I got it in the end (again, no mean feat given the amount of characters and concepts introduced over such a short time!) but feel that this shouldn't be given as the place to start. It's probably best to know a bit more about what's going on in the world, and this is an optional extra to read later.
An accomplished piece of writing, but perhaps not the best place to dive in to the Snowverse. Regardless, it's certainly full of interesting ideas and I intend to read more from the series!
“Trapped” is the prequel to the Freya Snow series of books, and tells the story of Lily, Freya’s mother. It fills in a number of the gaps in the later series – we meet Amber while she is still alive, learn more about her link to Lily, find out how Freya was conceived and born, and the circumstances leading up to Lily’s initial banning to the Shadow Realm, and her subsequent change to the timeline, that resulted in her death. This book takes place in what has now become a defunct timeline – where magic and humans (including the enhanced) still mix. The action shifts between the years 1995, when Lily is a teenager at school, and 2000, when a pregnant Lily awakes after an accident with no memory, and between the real (Human) world, the Shadow Realm, and the Underworld. Although this is a prequel, it does not make much sense, unless you have read the first three Freya Snow books (and so the above is not a spoiler). Even then, I had to read it twice, to fully understand what was occurring. The switches in location and time require full concentration when you are reading. There is more than one Lily, which confuses things even more. That being said – it definitely is worth reading, and gives welcome background to so much that happens in the later stories. I received this copy from the author via Amazon in exchange for an honest review
She woke up with no clue who she was and told she was in medical facility having been beaten almost to death by magical beings. The problems began when she tried to leave her room and realized they locked her in.
She finally remembered her name was Lily Snow. Some memories came back in bits and spurts. She seemed to be missing about ten years of her life. She was trapped in what she was told was a medical facility. Being constantly examined and questioned about who she was and what she might remember.
What she is remembering might get her killed though. So might the ghost she is seeing who is talking to her. Or the fact that she is pregnant and hiding it...with magic.
L.C. Mawson kicks off the “Freya Snow” and “Snowverse” series with a prequel that has so many mysteries Trapped (2016) in a room it can make your head spin. I love it! So I am going to give some hints away. There are two different men involved. Two queens and no I do not mean men in that context. A war. A place off of Earth. Plus the novella ends on a death defying cliffhanger. Breathless.
Ok, this is going to be a hard to do review because some are coming to this prequel before reading any of the Snowverse novels. I'm going to deliberately avoid summarizing as I don't want to spoil anything, but you can check the blurbs on kindle and/or Goodreads if you really need one. I've read all the Snowverse novels to date and have totally loved them, so the five stars I've awarded this prequel is based on that background. For those like me this is a perfect prequel giving the background on Lily and Amber while they were still around (yes, I'm being deliberately vague here) and backstory on Freya herself. Personally I think it's a great story even as a stand alone, but it's definitely superb for any fan of the series.
This novella is really a prequel to the Freya Snow series, and tells how Freya came into being by giving her mother Lily's story. While it's a little confusing at first in the way it jumps between times and worlds (which is why it only got 4*), once you've got a handle on that its a good read. The only other comment I would make in a semi-negative way is that, whilst it's a prequel in content, it contains some spoilers for the main series and won't entirely make sense either if read before the other books, so I definitely wouldn't recommend reading it first or in isolation. But I would recommend reading it as part of the series! NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
In the Shadow realm, Lily Snow was a twin of herself. One was an angel and one was a demon. In the mortal realm she was a magic user whose powers manifested very late, and because her mother had been tremendously strong, it made everyone nervous. Then she gave everyone reason to be nervous indeed, by losing her temper!
Some choice she has-- live in captivity and drugged by fearful humans, or escape to a new world by sacrificing her life for her secret child. But this is why there even exists the world that raised up the amazing Freya Snow.
This book gave some helpful insight into Freya's past - especially in better understanding her mother and the events that happened before Freya's time. I really liked it, and I liked getting the opportunity to get to know Lily and Edric and Amber better.
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This is a superb prequel for this series. I am so in love with reading this story I can not wait to the next one comes out written by a wonderful author wich is one of my favorite ones.
Another enjoyable short read by L.C. Mawson, the prequel to the Freya Snow series. I own several of her books but had never managed to read one until lately. This is my sixth this week.
A little confusing but interesting. After reading Hunt it made more sense. I understand this is a prequal but I think it could be read either before or after Hunt. It fills in some blanks. I am interested in finding out where this story goes.
Although this is not my usual read, I was captivated by the magical aspects of the story. It was a bit hard to follow with the back and forth but I love the detail of it all. Looking forward to getting more background on Lily and Amber and what happened to Freya all this time she has been in foster care.

Not available KU so must have gotten it through one of my free book places or permafree and led here. Autistic character, unusual in a book, but the writer's other books also feature this, in the Lady Ruth Constance series.

I read a few chapters on Wattpad back before I started reading Hunt, but I wasn't sure if prequels came with a risk of spoilers so I waited to read it, and recently I got around to downloading it on iBooks. 4.5 stars, which becomes 5 on here because math and the fact that Goodreads doesn't do half stars. I thought it was an enjoyable read. It was relatively short/quick. It was a little confusing with the way it went back and forth between time periods and (at one point) realms but it's cool learning more about what happened before Hunt starts.
This is the prequel to the Freya Snow series that explores the life of Lily Snow in her final days. While it is the prequel books I wouldn’t really recommend that you start with this as a lot of things won’t make the most sense. However if you do like a sense of mystery and a good introduction to that universe this is well worth reading.
Quick, neat read. There was a lot of world building for so short a story. You have to pay attention to the dates so you don't get confused (the earlier dates are basically memories/flashbacks). Pretty good for a short prequel.
