Favorite Quotes:

Sam needs a third party to interpret for him on occasion, he’s that emotionally constipated.

Wandering into the kitchen, he saw Aidan emptying the dishwasher… ‘Don’t remember you ever doing that when I lived here all the time.’ ‘That’s because you did it all for me,’ Aidan grinned. ‘Why own a dog and bark yourself?’

My Review:

This was a light, sweet, and slowly evolving romance with relevant, relatable, and current issues. The writing style and storylines were original and easy to follow and cast with characters who were likable, hardworking, and endearing. Toss in a production of the Bard, a few tasty servings of sizzle, and mix in meddling friends and family and the end result is a light and entertaining diversion.

Thank you to the publisher and author for an arc copy of this novel.

Oh, this was such a lovely read; just what you need either for the beach or, as intended, at Christmas. Fay Keenan writes beautifully and, with the authority and knowledge of being, like her protagonist, a teacher herself, the story flows. As such, the everyday happenings in, and atmosphere of, a high school are related just as they are and Florence, our main character, comes across as a totally realistic, warm and thoughtful character.
With a new house, inherited from a favourite great-aunt, as well as a brand-new teaching job, Florence is not looking for love, but it’s there ready and waiting in the character of Sam, her new next-door neighbour.
Keenan appears to have put much research into the work of the air ambulance brigade and Sam, newly retired out of the navy for reasons we come to be told, fits perfectly the romantic hero as the gorgeous, somewhat brooding, although basically very pleasant and caring (as well as tight-trousered when in role as amateur Shakespearian actor) pilot.
The romance between the two is very much will they/won’t they and the scene in Florence’s classroom at the very end of the book is both rewarding, original and a clever one.
This is just the book to curl up with on cold winter days ahead. A hot chocolate, a mince pie and “Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace.” What else could you ask for?

This was my first Christmas book of 2020. Is reading a Christmas book in August considered too early? I don't think so. Given the amount of time in lockdown, it feels as though we deserve a good Christmas this year.

The story is an absolute delight, despite it starting with tragedy. Florence's distant aunt has passed away and left her property to Florence, much to her surprise. She's starting a new life in the property and has a job set up as a secondary teacher in a new local school. When her noisy neighbour prevents her from sleeping, she thinks she has bad neighbours. Much to her surprise, Sam and Aiden her new neighbours are more interesting and friendly than she initially thought.

This is a well-written romance though it took me a while to get into it. This is a heartwarming festive read with plenty of strong characters. Florence is coerced into performing in a local play and is sent straight into the heart of the community. There are plenty of twists and turns in the story to keep you guessing what's going to happen next.

Aidan was one of my favourite characters, he was determined to make a life for himself despite going through huge emotional trauma. Sam spends a lot of time worrying about him and his story is told so sensitively it was beautiful to read.

A fantastic festive story that is a perfect cozy Christmas read. A wonderful story and one that I am sure to remember.

I have read a couple of Fay's books and I really enjoyed them. I read the synopsis for 'Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace' and it certainly sounded like another amazing read from Fay Keenan. I was spot on as I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of this book but more about that in a bit.

I loved the characters of Florence Ashton and Sam Ellis and I warmed to them both from the start. Florence is a teacher. Florence inherits a house from her great aunt, which she was not expecting at all. Florence ends up moving to her late great aunt's house and Florence also finds herself a job. She has fond childhood memories of going to Willowbury as a child to visit and sometimes stay with her great aunt. Florence regrets not having visited her great aunt more over the last few years but with work and things, she just hasn't had the time. Moving to Willowbury is the new start that Florence needs. There are a few teething problems with the house next door, as one of the residents has a fondness for playing the electric guitar at all hours of the night. Sam is an air ambulance pilot and he first runs into (almost literally) Florence when he is distracted by a pasty and crosses the road in front of Florence's car. It turns out that Florence and Sam live closer to each other than they might have imagined. I won't go into any further details as I don't want to spoil the story for anybody. Will Florence and Sam get the happy ever after ending that they both deserve? Well for the answer to that question and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out.

When I agreed to take part in the blog tour for 'Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace', I hadn't actually realised that it was the second in the Willowbury series. That didn't make the blindest bit of difference to me because the book reads perfectly well as a standalone story. This was one of those books that immediately grabbed my attention and drew me into the story. I found that I took so well to the main characters that I felt compelled to keep reading and I mean that in the nicest possible way. I genuinely cared what happened to them and of course that meant that the pages were turning increasingly quickly as my desperation to find out what happened steadily grew and grew. All too quickly I reached the end of the story and I had to say farewell to Florence and Sam. I do hope that we meet them again though.

'Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace' is well written. In Florence and Sam, Fay has created genuinely lovable characters who were described so realistically that they seemed to leap off the page and they seemed just as real as you and I. I did end up feeling as though they had both become good friends of mine. I loved the fact that this book had snow in the title, especially as I read this book in summer when the temperatures was far hotter than I can cope with. Reading this book felt like a hug in a mug, in that the story makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I felt as though I was part of the story and that's all down to Fay's very vivid and realistic storytelling.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Fay's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

*I voluntarily reviewed this book via Netgalley.

I know for some that reading a Christmas story in August is just one step too far for an already crazy 2020, but I promise you, you won't regret picking up SNOWFLAKES OVER BAY TREE TERRACE by Fay Keenan.

When Florence inherits a house from her deceased great-aunt, she decides it is time for a new life and takes a leap of faith by moving to the beautiful little town of Willowbury. With a new teaching job, a new place to explore, and new friends to make, Florence is busier than she could imagine, and love is the last thing on her mind, even though her slightly brooding next-door-neighbour, Sam, makes her heart flutter just a little bit. But as always, the past is never too far away, and they are both very different people with a lot going on in their lives. But as the snow begins to fall, could a little magic help them on their way to love?

With loveable characters, a stunning setting, and a lovely atmosphere that worked its magic on me as a reader, SNOWFLAKES OVER BAY TREE TERRACE by Fay Keenan is simply wonderful. The author has a talent for weaving the character's emotions in such a way that you feel it all right there with them and I smiled, teared up, and fell in love with them all so easily that I could not put this book down.

SNOWFLAKES OVER BAY TREE TERRACE is a must-read this winter season so make sure it's on your list. You won't regret it!!

This is such a charming book that hooked me from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the chemistry between Florence and Sam and knew they’d get together at some point! I also figured out Sam’s brother’s secret pretty early on too. But that didn’t detract from such a lovely story.
I would have liked to read a little more about Florence’s family – for example, what she found in the attic. But perhaps that’s a story for another time?
All in all, a really delightful book for lovers of easy-going romantic drama.

Fay Keenan does it again! What I love about her stories is the element of realism, the funny awkward moments, and the amazing passion between her characters.

This is a truly lovely story, with a feisty heroine and a super-hot hero in uniform, and a little bit of Shakespeare and a hint of Christmas thrown in the mix.

Aunts are so handy in literature when they die and leave legacies that change the heroine’s life! It’s a familiar trope but always interesting, and this author handles it in an original way.
Florence and Sam are very engaging as hero and heroine. Neither is perfect as each comes with a certain amount of baggage and flaws but that’s what we want and expect from this genre. They meet, grate, grumble and finally begin understand each other, with lots of lovely will-they won’t-they along the way.
This is a pleasant, easy read, with the right amounts of comedy and romance and seasonal atmosphere for the perfect, festive romcom. I shall read it again during once the night’s have really drawn in as I’m sure it will resonate and entertain even more then.

This a very adorable book with a nice romance evolving nice and slowly. There are some serious mental health topics that are mentionned in this book which i find nice as it gives the book a more serious side while still being light and fun. This book is also about friendship. There are some parts that I found a bit slow in the book but all in all I really enjoyed this book by Fay keenan and I cannot wait to read another book from her!

I love books that give me a cozy, warm feeling, and Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace did that perfectly!

To begin with, this is one of those books where I loved the characters as a couple, rather than themselves. Initially, I found Florence to be quite stubborn and set in her ‘school teacher’ ways even in her personal life. Sam also felt like a difficult guy to connect with, as he keeps his emotions bottled up. However, I loved their chemistry together. Their romance is so adorable and it was fun to see if they will/won’t be together.

Moreover, the supporting characters are endearing and I loved them all. Specifically, I loved Aiden! I thought the author did a wonderful job in highlighting his struggles. Both Sam and Aiden deal with their own struggles, and it was nice to see Florence in the mix. Also, Josie was another favorite character and I loved her friendship with Florence. She lightens up the entire story with her opinions and advice. In fact, I even liked Tom and his snobbish mannerisms.

The author setup the story against the beautiful backdrop of Willowbury. I loved the idyllic town set during winter season, and wished I resided in such a place. Surprisingly, I also found the setting of the Air Ambulance Services fascinating. I have not read much on the topic and I really admire the author for doing research and incorporating it in the plot.

Overall, this is one of those book that sets the mood for the festive season. If you are looking for a good, cozy romance, then I would recommend this book!

I found this a mish-mash of 1950's Mills and Boon (with a lashing (not literally) of the Collins sisters) romance between a teacher (whose stress levels must have been enormous after her Year 8 pupils were caught red-handed in the act of 'chucking pens around the classroom') and a commitment-phobe ex-Navy now Air Ambulance pilot. The latter steps up manfully to support his war-damaged brother (now discovering his sexual orientation) with his mental health issues. There is some wellness shopping, some AmDram (Shakespeare rewritten for the festive season) and a rescue mission to throw into an already quite full mix. Too many plot lines, too many characters (most of whom just skate across the pages) and all too 'teenage' in every way, and especially in its dialogues. And not enough research on e.g hydrangeas and how the National Trust works ... and old English roses that are described as both 'louche' and 'elegant' - oh, for goodness sake! (Obviously I'm just too old for this kind of writing - I thought it was awful, awful, awful.)

This is the second novel I have read by Fay Keenan and it really put a smile on my face. Florence has just moved to the beautiful village of Willowbury and is quickly attracted to her (gorgeous!) rescue ambulance helicopter pilot, Sam. Thrown together in their local modernised Shakespearean play only sets off more sparks between them, but Sam struggles with problems in his personal life that threaten to tear them apart. I loved everything about this book - from the insights into rescue services, to the wonderful way the author adds Shakespearean touches to the plot itself. I also got a bit of a thrill when some of the characters from Book 1: 'A Place to Call Home' popped up in the story (MP Charlie Thorpe!). I can't wait to read the next novel in this fabulous Willowbury series. Highly recommend

When attraction immediately blooms, but responsibilities and doubts get in the way, friends and family come to the rescue.

Florence is direct and a little pushy, but, after all, she is a schoolteacher used to a tough crowd. And Sam is definitely a frustratingly tough nut to crack. He’s private and keeps everything close to the vest, and he is understandably overprotective of his younger brother, Aidan, after his tragic incident in the army. But can Sam open up his heart to Florence before it’s too late?

Florence and Sam are an appealing couple and it is intriguing to watch how they deal with the chemistry. I loved how the author used the play to bring them together. Aidan’s battle with PTSD is a serious and compelling story as well as the secret he reveals. A great addition to the story. The beautiful setting of the quirky town of Willowsbury is an added bonus along with the wonderful supporting cast of characters.

Overall, this is a refreshing and engaging Shakespearean-like love story set at Christmas time. In addition, the author readily and aptly tackles some important subjects such as PTSD and sexuality. If you enjoy heartwarming romances with thought-provoking subject matter and relatable characters, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Keenan for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

I enjoyed this one! An excellent stand-alone read with only the briefest of mentions of the first in series.

Florence Ashton finds unexpectedly on the receiving end of a considerable inheritance; Great Aunt Elsie has left her cottage in Florence's capable hands. Quickly deciding to move her life to Willowbury, Florence has more than enough on her plate with home renovations and a new job. Romance isn't even featuring on her to-do list .. until she meets her neighbour that is . . .

I hadn't connected the first in series, The Weekender, until there was a slight mention of two character names near the beginning of this novel, then it all came flooding back. This is, however, a complete stand-alone story - entirely different from the first but both well worth setting time aside for. Without giving away any plot details, there are technical details included in this one for which the author has done her research and it shows in this easily flowing book. Fay Keenan always produces great reads and this one is no different. Willowbury sounds like a very attractive place to live with a variety of individual businesses, customs and traditions. A terrific read all the way through which I'm happy to both recommend and give 4.5*.

A surprise inheritance has teacher Florence Ashton moving from Yorkshire to her new home and job in Willowbury in Someset. As she gets settled in, it is a time for her to know the neighbours, be coerced into playing a lead role in the local drama society's seasonal adaptation, have opportunities to make new friends and there's even a possible romance.

This is a heartwarming read, with a real sense of community spirit. It also deals with the problems associated with recovery from traumatic events and keeping secrets from your family! It is a story with drama on and off the stage, more than one romance and plenty of twists, turns and laughter before any of them can find their chance to live happily ever after!

It is one of my first Christmasy reads this summer and it was lovely to escape our current reality and virtually join this delightful story of community, family, love and romance.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a good romance. It started and ended like a rom-com, but the middle was very serious. It was almost like reading a different book. The characters were charming and likable. They each had their own struggles which made them easy to relate to. I liked the plot, but the story was a little lacking. The main characters' relationship was like being on a rollercoaster with all the ups and downs. There were a couple of steamy scenes that I skipped over, so be aware!

Once I got over the fact that part of the book is set in December and it is still August, I settled into the story and enjoyed several aspects of the book. The setting is gorgeous- a small, community minded place with quite a bit going on and a few individual touches. The characters are likeable too, Florence never quite manages to put aside her schoolteacher manner when she is out of the classroom, but she knows this. Underneath the surface Sam has some issues to come to terms with around commitment. His brother is facing his own struggles with the aftermath of some traumatic events. In all, you get the feeling that there is more to this story for Sam and Florence than a 'will they, won't they?' romance. There are also some quirky individuals to be found in the local amateur dramatics society and a few humorous touches as well.

Although part of the story takes place at Christmas, this is not an over the top, oh-so-festive story. It is very much in the background. I enjoyed the references to Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing which fitted with Florence's job as an English Teacher. There is lots of potential in this village for more and I do hope to visit Willowbury again.

In short: The course of true love...
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book

First Christmas book of the year coming up! Too early? I think not. However, I must admit I did feel a bit silly and wierd about reading a Christmas book during a heatwave it certainly didn't cool me down. Anyway back to the book...
The book starts off with a death but a gift from a distant aunts will leads to a new beginning for Florence. Exciting. It drew me in wanting to know more and where this would lead for Florence. She is a very independent person, prefers to keep to herself. She soon meets her next door neighbours Sam and Aiden...
A romance soon blooms between Sam and Florence when they both become the leads of the towns Christmas play. But it becomes apparent that Sam and Aiden were both in the Army in the past and it has affected them both but more so for Aiden. This leads Sam feeling the need to watch over his brother but this is affecting his own relationship and life. Christmas comes and goes and everything starts to change for all the characters after a nasty row.
It's beautifully written, I will say it took me a while to get into it but then I was hooked. A beautiful Christmas love story. I loved all the characters and the outcome. It has a little bit of everything this book and I think I may have liked Sam a little myself. Phew. I enjoyed reading it.
For me it was a cute little Christmas town and a small but friendly community within it. A Christmas romance with some reality within. Both the high and lows of life but a happy ending. A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend. One to add onto your Christmas piles.

I love a good winter story on a 90° day here in America, mainly because this Brit ex-pat can’t handle the heat, so what perfect time that I get stuck into Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace by Fay Keenan.

We start the story with Florence inheriting a cottage from her Great Aunt, and it comes at the perfect time for her (not the death obviously), as it was time for her to be moving on as she had been teaching in York since she graduated, and for an army brat, that was too long and as the old adage goes change was as good as a rest. But little did she think when moving into her great aunt's cottage just how much would change.

I found this book enjoyable and sweet, though a little slow to start in the beginning, it soon flowed, pulling me into this wonderful story. I enjoyed Florence and Sam’s characters. The book was cleverly written, with the will they/won’t they plot, that kept me with the story till the very end.

This is my first book I have read from this author and I wasn’t disappointed. It is always nice to have another author to look forward to reading on your TBR pile. The novel follows the lives of Florence and Sam in a will they/won’t they scenario set in a delightful country village. The setting adds to the warmth and festive feel of the story but it is the characters that shine especially Aiden, Sam’s brother. He is the reason the two protagonists meet and is the glue throughout the novel. His story about the trauma of leaving the forces is sensitively told and it was lovely to see an important subject threaded into commercial novel without it being the focus. His relationship with Sam and the realistic emotional interactions they had touched me.

Florence is a school teacher and it shows in her personality while ex-Navy Sam has taught himself to protect himself emotionally. I enjoyed the build up of the sizzling chemistry between them and following their trials and tribulations you need in a good romantic novel.

This is more than a quick uplifting festive read; the well developed characters, topics of discussion and beautiful prose make it one that you do not leave behind when the final page is closed.

Snowflakes over Bay Tree Terrace is not my first novel by Fay Keenan, but it is a good one.

A main character who sees her life change after her aunt leaves her an inheritance.

There are many books with this type of storyline but Fay Keenan has a gift for creating a small town atmosphere that draws the reader in. Winter, a new start and romance and other adventures thrown in and you have a cosy novel that I think can be enjoyed year round.

Thanks to Fay Keenan, Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

When Florence inherits a cottage from her great aunt she is looking forward to starting new life and when she meets Sam, her new next door neighbour, life is definitely looking up..... but has he got too much baggage to move on?

A lovely light warm book easy to curl up with and read in one session. I loved the characters of Sam and Aiden and the journey that they had made

Enjoyed this story on the whole, though Florence left me a tad 'meh' throughout as nothing much seems to happen around her most of the time. Sam was a bit more nuanced, and I really liked finding out more about Aidan throughout and the dynamics between him and Sam. There were things happening in this story, but the pace is very much a 'cozy snowy afternoon read' and it thus would be great for someone who had the time to sink into this for the whole day rather than having to read in bursts and then struggling a little to pick it back up and get into the plot as the 'plot' itself was very loosely woven around the characters

I want to preface this review by saying that I don't like giving bad reviews. I'm only writing this review because this book was an advanced reading copy that was given to me in exchange for an honest review. This book was not for me. I didn't connect with any of the characters. I did not feel any chemistry between Florence and Sam. I thought this book was to long and loaded with fluff and irrelevant details. I found it difficult to even finish it. I would not recommend this book.

When teacher Florence Ashton receives a surprise inheritance, she decides to make the life-changing decision to up sticks to the charming town of Willowbury in Somerset. With a new house and a new job, she’s too busy putting down roots to think about love.
Air Ambulance pilot Sam Ellis is definitely not looking for romance either, especially not on his doorstep. When Florence, his new neighbour, complains about his noisy housemate, he feels more cross than star-crossed.
But as the nights draw in and both find themselves thrown together in Willowbury’s seasonal drama production, will they overcome their differences and allow a little bit of winter magic to fall along with the snow? And what secrets will be revealed by the box of memories Florence finds in the attic at Bay Tree Terrace?
Following on from my previous review this is the second book in the series (I sincerely hope that this isn't the last!) The characters from the first book make an appearance but doesn't encroach on this story. The premise is essentially the boy/girl next door but again with a more complex story line. I loved the fact that this author delves into topics that you wouldn't necessarily expect in what is essentially a romance and for me this made the series more enjoyable. I am hoping that the author continues with this series as it is thoroughly enjoyable. Perfect to curl up with a cup of tea with

Teacher, Florence moves to the spiritual town of Willowbury in Somerset after inheriting her aunt’s house. She quickly settles into her new job making friends with her colleague Josie and neighbours Aiden and Sam.

There is lots of festive fun in the lead up to the holidays with Winterfest and the Christmas play, Much Ado about Christmas, which is put on by the local community to raise funds for the air ambulance. I didn’t realise that air ambulances are not publically funded and operate purely on charity, so this book is certainly doing a good job raising awareness for that.

Quite often chick lit will feature a stereotypical gay best friend, but it was good to see both gay and heterosexual romances included in this book. Snowflakes Over Bay Tree Terrace is well written and edited. With lots of short chapters and a few mysteries along the way about Aunt Elsie’s past, and Sam and Aiden’s relationships, it kept me wanting to read more

1.5* at most, and I feel like I am being too generous rounding up. But since I didn't outright hate it, it also wouldn't be fair to round down.
I picked up this book because I tentatively liked the first book in the series and I was in the mood for an inoffensive palette cleanser. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me.

The characters are wooden, the Shakespearean similarities are nothing but a gimmick that is first telegraphed from miles away and is then hammered in repeatedly, with a sledge hammer. The whole thing is way too long, features way too many pointless irrelevant details - of everything, - and, worst of all, ultimately didn't feel like a real love story - more of fling where both parties are being convinced by others and themselves that the relationship is much more than it really is.

This book felt like everyone in it, including the author, was just going through the motions, phoning it in.
