“But it’s not as if Liliane suffers. No. The little angle radiates health, and when she flashes that beaming grin at me I know she’ll live forever unless I put an end to it”.

“Simply because she is genuine, alive, funny, gracious, honest. Because I love her and love is mysterious and beyond understanding. My darling Zaza- she would collapse with laughter if I told her I was planning to kill my wife for her. And in meantime, she doesn’t give a damn for me.”

Another review of an obscure book. It has only one other review on goodreads.

Disclaimer: I wouldn’t have enjoyed this book as much as I did if it wasn’t for the stress I have been under these past few days.

In the light of the above disclaimer, if you are struggling with reading or have been under stress, trust me this book is the perfect medicine to cure it. Singleminded is a story that starts with a lawyer Francois who is in love with his trainee Zaza and one day he decides that the only way to obtain his freedom is to get rid of his wife Liliane and he doesn’t mean through the process of divorce. What follows next is his endeavors to complete this task as soon as possible.

It’s funny, snarky and dark and you can’t help but keep turning the pages. The use of wit and sarcasm is of the highest order and believe me when I say this, it’s suspenseful like no other thriller. What I like about this book the most is how it isn’t an example of a typical murder mystery or even a thriller. It feels fresh and unique. The voice of the narrator is extremely compelling and makes you roll around with laughter. I’ll be honest, this isn’t breaking any grounds, it isn’t intellectual let alone literary, but it knows what it is and excels in that. Highly recommend it if you are looking something fast, hilarious and gripping.
