To rescue someone, sometimes you have to kill someone else. When Michael Grimm is sent to Italy by his employer to transport an injured woman home to Montreal, he finds her riddled with bullet wounds and near death. Michael saves Ariana only to discover all is not as it seems, and that the lines between hunter and hunted don't exist.
As the two of them traverse the streets of Rome fleeing Ariana's enemies, Michael is sent into a tailspin of conflict--deeply attracted to her yet repulsed by the madness of the situation into which she has thrust him.
When Ariana finally reveals the real reason he was brought to Rome, Michael has to decide which lines he's willing to cross and how far he'll go to aid her mission--all the while wondering how he'll protect his heart from her charms.
J. Philip Horne probably shouldn't be alive. Born in Florida, he grew up overseas for the most part, spending much of his childhood in Liberia and Micronesia. During those years, he experienced numerous attempts on his life. The wannabe killers included malaria, spinal meningitis, blood poisoning, a staph infection in his heel bone, a close encounter with a green mamba, and other cold-hearted foes.
From his earliest years, his parents read to him fantastical stories from wonderful worlds. Narnia and Middle Earth featured prominently, and had his youth been a generation later, he would have certainly encountered Hogwarts at a young age. Through his teen years he read stories by many other authors and experienced a host of new worlds.
After dabbling in writing for many years, he finally got serious and wrote his first novel in 2011. He has continued to write ever since. For news of upcoming works, please join Mr. Horne’s email list at jphiliphorne.com.

Well written albeit less-than-believable plot with simple characterization. Amazing how quickly bullet wounds heal in this book! Hey, it isn't any more far-fetched than the latest Dan Brown or David Baldacci formulaic screeds. The female lead is a unicorn, an Italian of Albanian extraction who flawlessly speaks and understands colloquial English. She's beautiful as well as deadly (chortle).
Having said all that, the book is perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon bunkered against viral contagion and can easily be read in one sitting.
I rate this book a 4.0, based on the FCP book review standard. Priced at $5.99 on Amazon Kindle, it's a fair entertainment value.
(Disclosure: I received a free copy through Veracious Readers Only!)
A nurse is sent to take an injured woman from Rome to Montreal. He finds her in a really bad state, barely alive, with some people wanting her dead. There are quite a few twists and turns in the story which draw you in. This is a well written book which is easy to read and hard to put down as you become engrossed in the story line. An action packed thriller from start to end. I received a complimentary copy of the book by the author via Voracious Readers Only and would recommend this author/book.
The Rescue Nurse is a unique take on an action packed thriller. It's intense and unpredictable with a complicated romance, but also highly entertaining. One twisted event left me reeling. Once you start reading, it will be hard to put the book down. I'm hoping J. Philip Horne will continue writing books about Rescue Nurse Worldwide and make it into a series with new characters for each book, but with favorite characters from previous books making an appearance.
I really enjoyed this action packed story. I don’t know what I can say without giving too much away but there was shoot outs, wicked fight scenes, tactics, car chases, mobs, gangs, jumping off buildings, espionage, past history, men in suits and lots more. I thought the ending was good as it was something not the run of the mill (for me perhaps). Recommend this book - can’t wait for the movie! New franchise for sure. I received a complimentary copy of the book from Voracious Readers Only
I was sent a copy by Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review. This was action packed from beginning to end. A rescue nurse with combat experience, previously a marine. He goes to Rome to rescue a tourist and bring her back to Montreal. Arriving in Rome he starts an amazing journey of mafia, kidnapping, trafficking and more. Excellent book, difficult to put down. If you like fast pace it’s the one for you.
An action-packed thriller about a rescue nurse getting pushed into more than he bargained for. Michael Grimm has both a military and EMT background, and is called in to bring home an injured tourist in Rome. He's not told the whole story, though, and some people want this tourist dead. I thoroughly enjoyed the action scenes and characters. I hope this isn't the last we see of Michael Grimm.
I meant to read a few chapters to get a feel for the book. But, I was quickly drawn in. I looked up hours later as I finished, feeling like I’d just finished an extended cut of a Bourne story. A whirlwind of a story across two continents. The action is satisfying. How the main character is treated is shameful. I was just glad he got back home!
I received this ebook through the Vorachious readers only website in exchange for a review. Action packed story. This author has a well developed imagination. The female hero had unbelievable abilities. There was romance too!! You'll not be disappointed with this story but will be left thinking was this possible, could it be survived.
The non-stop pace made this a story to read before getting any sleep. The characters and storyline were well thought out, but still kept the ending in question. I hope there will be a sequel, or better yet, several books to follow the protagonist into other adventures.
Didn't enjoy reading this book. Story is decent , however the way author narrated the story is somewhat peculiar. He over narrated the action sequences in such a way that, it was hard to follow and imagine what's happening in the scene . Would I recommend this book to anyone - Nope , I'd suggest readers to pass this with no fuilt
Location, weapons, medical "stuff" - all things I normally have suspension of disbelief issues with. Either the author KNOWS these things, or they did a ton of research. Now, both Ariana and Michael are nearly superhuman in abilities, but that's what makes them interesting. Well written and kept my interest in every chapter.
Insightful, suspenseful and well written tale of a brotherhood of warriors that is universally respected within Special Operations, the PJs. Fascinating character development and clever plot twists abound. Outstanding yarn.
Excellent through the first 75% of the story. Then it took a turn that just pissed me off. I don't like reading when I'm pissed off. Only finished it because I was so close to the end. Seems most everyone else was okay with it though so not sure what to say about that.
Fantastic story. Had me hooked from the beginning. Loved the storyline. Rescue nurse is written well. It has the right mix of detail and emotion. Definitely worth the time.
Great premise and well written. As a nurse I expected more medical than thriller but he blended it well enough. Perhaps more and some finesse in character in the future?
Moves pretty quick. Didn't care for the continual abuse of the main character. I don't think it added to the story. Great little cliff-hanger at the end!
Wouldn’t call myself an avid reader. This book hooked me in from the start. I read it in a day. I’ve never read anything that fast. Can’t wait for book 2!
This book was horrible - it was poorly written, the plot was all over the place, the attempt at romance was eye-roll worthy, and the entire book was a waste of my time.
