This board book is so adorable! It's full of sweet rhymes from childhood like "This Little Piggy", "Hickory Dickory Dock", and "Polly Put the Kettle On", but also has new rhymes included. The rhymes all have hand motions or other activities that can be done along with the rhymes. This can help young toddlers to learn to hold up a certain number of fingers as we count down from five, or to move their arms or legs as the rhyme instructs. It's so cute!

These rhymes go way beyond the simple "Peek-a-boo" style that I always found so boring. These are really interesting and fun! There are ducks, dinosaurs, trains, bunnies, and lions. There is roaring, tickling, hopping, clapping, and flying fingers.

I really appreciated that the bright illustrations show all kinds of children; young babies, older toddlers, disabled children in wheelchairs, children with glasses, African, Asian, Caucasian, and Hispanic children. Plus every kid is so cute! I love the art style in this book.

FIVE LITTLE DUCKS is a delightful collection of nursery rhymes. The book includes many rhymes that are familiar alongside those that are less well known. The rhymes also include actions that can be done while saying the rhymes, such as finger movements, as well as plenty of adorable children and babies illustrated on each page.

What I loved: There are so many nursery rhymes throughout the book that there are sure to be some to appeal to each reader. Whether you are looking for something different to be able to recite or want a book that is easy to capture the attention of young readers, this is a perfect choice. Toddlers really love rhymes and will pick these up quickly. The diverse children illustrated throughout add to the interest when this is being read aloud. A lot of these were new to me, but my toddler picked them up quickly and really enjoys them, particularly the counting rhymes (five little ducks and five enormous dinosaurs). This is definitely a fun book to read aloud with young children who will really get into the nursery rhymes.

Final verdict: FIVE LITTLE DUCKS is a delightful nursery rhyme collection that toddlers and preschoolers will love to explore. With adorable illustrations of children along with plenty of rhymes, this is such a fun read.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Parents and caregivers interested in developing their youngsters' oral language skills and developing listening skills will find several great nursery rhymes and games in this board book. Accompanied by colorful illustrations that show active children, the plethora of nursery rhymes included here also have directions that tell speakers how to read the lines or include accompanying actions. There are several opportunities for movement as the rhymes are shared, and the use of repetitive language enhances little ones' familiarity with words while fostering a love for words. It's helpful for parents to have all these rhymes in one place, offering one way to get their offspring involved in simple activities such as opening or closing their hands or stomping. While most of the nursery rhymes and games will be familiar to parents, some won't be, and others have been slightly altered for a modern audience.

A collection of rhymes, old and new, commonly used at library storytimes. I appreciate that this is not a collection of Mother Goose Rhymes, which, while developmentally appropriate, are often quite dated in vocabulary and content. This does feature old favorites, like Five Little Ducks and This Little Piggy, but also includes rhymes that feel a bit more modern like Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and I Had a Little Turtle. A great companion book to send home with parents after a storytime.

I appreciated the diversity in the illustrations--there is even a little one in a wheelchair depicted. Except, the attempts at diversifying feel a bit pushed aside by the inclusion of "I Have Ten Little Fingers" -- not all children do. Other words were changed throughout for a modern audience, and this rhyme could have benefited from a change of the word "ten" to the word "my."

Fantastic rhymes and clear direction for some fun times with your baby / toddler. We "read" this cover to cover, with each page i give a brief description (i.e. 5-8 words) of what the rhyme is and then ask my toddler which one he wants to do together. We then perform that rhyme as many times as he interested and then turn the page and repeat the process. Sometimes he decides to skip a page completely (not a fan of the mouse running up the clock).

This book is full of childhood rhymes that I grew up with. I love the fun illustrations in this board book. They are so colorful and really fun for kids to look through the book. I also love that they have different races of kids in this book. This book is so cute and worth having in the nursery library.
