Long ago when the first humans began to inhabit the earth, the first fae was created. Born of the earth, the fae’s purpose was to teach and assist man.The fae soon became disenchanted by the brutality of man and left the human realm. Now they must return their youngest child to live among humankind once again.Sawyer was created to be the perfect soul mate and to save the human realm. She must form a friendship with four men, because one among them is destined to become her soul mate. She must learn to control her vast powers, some of which are still unknown to her.Sawyer waits, constantly feeling the pull of her soul mate, but unexpectedly begins to feel the pull of her own heart. Can she learn to control her powers in a world where she exists only in myth and fairy tales? Can she learn to control her own heart? Will she choose between the duty she was created for or her own heart? She must decide quickly because the night of her soul song is almost here.
As soon as I saw a fae on the cover I was in! I am such a sucker for faeries. Soul Song is the story about Sawyer looking for her mate by the time her 22nd birthday hits. She has four possible bachelors she could chose from in order to accomplish her destiny. During this she learns more about her purpose through trials.
Here goes my thoughts, I enjoyed the magical elements along with the realm, I love the nature aspect of faeries. The world building was a bit vague but that didn't keep me from understanding the surroundings and build it in my mind as the story unraveled. The character development was a bit short in substance but I was still interested to see how Sawyer would perform in the situation life presented to her. There were parts where the book picked up and kept my attention completely, this definitely made me want to see how the culmination of the first book in the series would go. Sawyer although a young adult has a good set of attributes to which she helps the story building. I would have preferred a character a bit more "bad assery" in her, I am obsessed with strong characters. But I can see why the author chose to make her this way. The story gave me the bachelor vibes in a fantasy world, this is more of a romance fantasy novel.
One of the things I had issues with was the redundancy in some descriptions and settings, it flow of the story. Grammar is something I look at and in this case an extra step of grammar review wouldve gone a long way.
Overall the story was pretty good. Despite the book being a bit slow for my liking I still enjoyed the story. I hope to see more of the world and the characters.
Thank you so much to the author for gifting me Soul Song and her second book Immortal Blood: A Fairy Tale.
3.5 Ive been trying to read more fantasy books and this one was such a great start! This book is about Sawyer, who is one of the most powerful faes and by her 22nd birthday she needs to find her soulmate. There are four possible men and throughout her time trying to figure it out, she learns more about her purpose. There were a few grammatical errors that bugged me a little but the story was great so it made up for it
Can’t wait to read the second book *this book was sent to me by the author for an honest review
Soul Song is a love story between a young fae and four chosen men. Sawyer must discover which of the four men is her soul mate by full moon of her 22nd birthday. This is a beautiful story that has the reader guessing who will win Sawyer’s heart. I really enjoyed reading and learning about each character.
The book, however, lacks editing and proofreading. Grammatical errors are found throughout the whole book. There is a redundancy from one sentence to the next. The flow of each paragraph could have also been better written.
