Oklahoma lost one of its true sports treasures on January 27, 2001. Bill was the Television Sports Director at KWTV in Oklahoma City and the voice of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Bill was born July 26, 1952 in Moorehead, Minnesota to William E. and Carol Tietgens. He attended high school at Tulsa's Nathan Hale and then college at the University of Tulsa. Bill married his sweetheart, Janis and together they had 1 daughter, Amanda, the apple of Bill's eye. In 1975 Bill launched his broadcasting career as a newscaster at KFDA in Amarillo, TX. One year later, he discovered his real love, sportscasting, accepting a job across town at KAMR. After 6 years in the Texas Panhandle, Bill returned to Tulsa to work at KOTV. Then in 1987, KWTV lured him to Oklahoma City to take over as Sports Director. Over the next 13 years at KWTV, Bill became the voice of the Oklahoma State Cowboys football and basketball teams and was named Sportscaster of the Year a record 8 times. He hosted numerous coaches shows on television and radio through the years, and was a member of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
