Fumble by Eva Haining
‘God, you’re gorgeous when you laugh.” He stills, running his fingers down my cheek. It’s so disarming. The intensity of his gaze is unnerving, and yet I can’t take my eyes off him. I instinctively chew on my lip, desperate to have just one taste.’
This book came into my life at a time when I desperately needed to laugh, to feel something positive, upbeat, good. That is precisely what Fumble embodies. It is a love story absolutely crammed full of mishaps, laughter, hijinks, feisty female protagonists, ridiculously sexy heroes, over-the-top flirtation and a generous dose of romance and humour. From the very beginning I figured that author Eva Haining had delivered not only a particularly spectacular romantic-comedy plot, with perfectly timed comedy and stellar dialogue, but she also happened to create, manifest and put forth one of the most endearing, quirky, charming, clumsy and adorable heroines I’ve had the pleasure of reading.
Every scene that Faith inhabits is filled with levity, disaster, entertainment, heat, teasing, confidence and disarray. She is a walking contradiction. A self-assured Virgin, with a plan of action. She’s awkward and graceless yet so very beautiful and utterly delightful. She’s organised chaos and a whirlwind of energy and emotion and I absolutely adored every single thing about her. She was such a kick-ass, refreshing, independent and ballsy protagonist. She turned the usual ‘virgin heroine’ trope on its ass, raining down attitude, poise and assertion. Faith wore the mantle of heroine with style and substance. It isn’t any wonder that our reluctant hero, Hunter fell madly in love with her.
Hunter was a truly breathtaking hero. He absolutely refused to be hemmed into one slot or another. He was successful, powerful, intimidating, sweet, sexy, thoughtful and full of integrity. He was also honest and upstanding and did I mention sexy? He has the mouth of a very delicious and depraved sailor. Add all that together and what we’re left with is a tremendous powerhouse couple, an inferno of passion and sexual tension and a storyline that will keep you giggling, grinning and melting right alongside the cast of players.
The writing in Fumble is first class. The comedic timing, the cringe-worthy incidents, the banter and friendships, the thigh-clenching intensity, it all binds this romance story tighty together, to deliver one of the best books I’ve read this year, showcasing two of the best characters I’ve watched fall in love this year.
If you’re having a tough time reading right now and everything just feels like it’s too much, then please take a chance on this book by Eva Haining. It is the most uplifting, super funny, hella dirty and swoony romance story.
