Does love stretch beyond one night? Travis is bored with his life. He hooks up with guy after guy, hoping to quell the persistent nagging in the back of his head that comes with the simplicity of his life. He has it a good job, a great apartment, and a clean bill of health. But he needs a change of pace. When he enrolls in a beginner's yoga class, he considers it his chance to prowl for new men. He encounters the instructor, Harvey, who appears to be more than suitable as a one-night stand. Travis shoots his shot and Harvey takes it, showing Travis that more fun could be had over tea than in the bedroom. It shocks Travis and it makes him want even more. The two fall into a fast-paced and passionate romance, tumbling through humorous and steamy encounters. Travis aches to be with a guy like Harvey. He resists his usual routine, choosing instead to see Harvey for more than just one night, throwing his entire life off-balance. When the ghosts of his past resurface, will he respond to them? Will he be able to admit his true feelings to Harvey without being rejected? Or will he leave Harvey in the dust just like he does with every other guy? Travis is headed to his yoga class, and finds a gorgeous instructor, Harvey. Travis is a player who never has more than one night stand, and lots of them. But now, for the first time, he finds someone he wants to know. Both men are super fit and health conscious. Harvey is studying to be a lawyer and then a judge. Travis is an accountant for a law firm. They get along and don’t hop right into bed, but their sexy times are spicy when they do. We get their internal thoughts, cautions and worries. Travis is humbled when Harvey finds out how badly he has treated the men he slept with, and Travis has some serious apologies to make. I’m not sure I would have forgiven him, but Harvey sees something he wants in Travis. Harvey is a terrific character. (The proof reader needs to correct quite a few words.) Enjoy the tale...it’s thought provoking.
Does a guy who loves one-night stands with no-strings attach ever fine “the” man that for just him; if he’s sincere then ya.
The man, Travis loves his many one-night stays, but not realizing it he could possibly be running out of men that want anything to do with him. Travis is an accountant at a law firm, has some acquaintances lawyer friends, but no real friends, but he makes deceit money.
Travis’s life becomes off-kilter when he heads into his first yoga class and meets his gorgeous yoga teacher. For Travis why not put the moves on the guy and have a little fun. After class with much flirting Travis and Harvey meet for coffee and Travis is stunned to discover he really liked him more than for a one-night stand.
Over coffee, Travis discovers there is more to the man than he ever thought. Harvey owns his yoga studio. Not only is he a self-employed yoga instructor, but he also takes law classes to become a lawyer. Harvey’s real dream is to continue to be a judge. He’s yoga studio helps foot the bill for his legal classes. The man’s easy to flirt and talk to and Travis’s feelings were shifting like they never had with other men.
Travis really liked the guy and he didn’t want to mess up what good things were happening between them. Harvey was great to Travis and he trusted Travis even though his last boyfriend cheated on him. The problem was he didn’t know how to deal with a certain man that kept showing up to hook up with Travis when Travis was with Harvey.
But Travis acting all secretive and withholding information about his past life backfired. He doesn’t tell Harvey soon enough before he’s ousted by the two men, who were former lovers and told Harvey all about Travis’s past. The signs Harvey was sensing felt like his cheating ex. At that Harvey cuts all ties with Travis.
This devastates Travis. He knew he was a fool not coming clean with Harvey about his past, but it hits Travis emotionally that he has no real friends to turn to talk with. His boss offered to talk with Travis if he ever needed to and that’s whom he calls to get advice from.
But would Harvey give him a second chance? Harvey did still want Travis, but only if he changes his ways and with a demand to prove his faith that he could change.
This is a lovely book with little angst and lots of excellent lessons to learn. I enjoyed reading it, though I would have like a better-written ending. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This book, Breathless by Max Hudson was a good short story. The flow of the storyline moved at a relatively moderate pace, which I found enjoyable.
The issue I had with the story is the part between both characters; when the section of a story introduces a dilemma. In my opinion it was illogical. If two individuals are moving along, falling for each other, then a minor issue arises that leads to friends opinions of their own interactions with the said party, all leave the reader to watching a breakup didn't quite make sense. It was too far fetched for me.
Max Hudson is a good writer but this story wasn't one of his better books.
I did not like this story at all. I didn't understand all the brouhaha about Travis' hookups. Is there any etiquette for having hookups? I thought it is take-it-and-leave-it kind of thing. How is it his problem if others wanted repeats? This storyline was way overrated and hyped and I thought he didn't need to be crucified so much. Also, I did not like holier-than-thou attitude of Harvey. He just went with what his friends said without even giving a chance to Travis to explain.
Travis was the town's player, he had a reputation of sleeping around and he was looking for his next conquest, when he walked into the yoga class. There he spotted the instructor Harvey and he knew he had found his prey. The story was okay.
I liked this story. The characters were fun and their story was entertaining. I think that it was worth the read. I was able to escape into their romance from the horror of reality.
