This book’s blurb and subtitle are VERY misleading. I hate to be a spoiler who spoils, but there isn’t really a mountain man or a baby (until the very very end) in The Storm: A Mountain Man’s Baby Romance.

Plot overview: A retired Navy Seal who does security-type work with his other retired Navy Seal friends (as retired Navy Seals are legally required to do in Romancelandia) gets a second chance with his childhood sweetheart, who also happens to be his sister’s best friend (it’s like trope bingo, y’all), when she comes to his city to attend a concert. She somehow manages to piss off a mobster and put herself in mortal danger in the process. ​
I’ll start by saying that I adore the cover. Kudos to you, you wonderful cover designer you!

Now, on to the not-so-sunshine-y stuff.

I was expecting a forced proximity, stuck-in-a-snowstorm-with-a-hot-mountain-man romance based on this description and cover. I was HORRIBLY let down. Just because Jackson lives in the mountains doesn’t make him a “mountain man” by romance novel standards. Mountain men in romance novels are supposed to be grumpy loners who chop wood shirtless and hunt for their dinner. Jackson was NOT that guy.

Also, with a title like The Storm, I don’t think I’m being unreasonable when I say I was expecting a snowstorm of epic proportions to trap the hero and heroine together in his tiny cabin. The storm in this book was more of a it’s-snowing-so-it’s-probably-safer-to-take-an-Uber-to-the-concert-than-it-is-to-drive-myself kind of storm. That’s a typical Tuesday in December for those of us in the Midwest. I was NOT impressed by this storm.

There’s a whole bit in the beginning about Gabby finding her hovering, gross, almost-stalker of a boyfriend banging a bartender in the bar bathroom. I failed to see what the point of this was. Gabby wasn’t heartbroken by this because she didn’t really like him that much anyway. (As to why she’s dating a guy she doesn’t like...I dunno. I guess we’re just supposed to roll with it.) And further, we don’t get to know that gross boyfriend that well, but banging a random while his girlfriend—who he pretty much stalks—seemed out of character. I wouldn’t think an obsessed guy would bang a random. But, again, I guess I’m supposed to just roll with it. Sigh.

I couldn’t make myself give a crap about Gabby. She dates a guy she doesn’t even like, physically assaults a guy who sexually harasses her in a bar (and it was fairly minimal sexual harassment, y’all. She was well within her rights to tell him off, tell him to get lost, and threaten to call for help, maybe even shove him away, but at the point when she physically attacks the guy, it was a totally over-the-top reaction that could’ve landed her in jail with an assault charge against her, frankly), and has sex with her ex about a minute after finding out she’s been cheated on. She made no sense at all to me.

And don’t even get me started on the suspense-y ending in which Gabby is kidnapped after stomping her feet like a two-year-old and rushing off into the snow on a dangerous night to see a concert. (Any reasonably intelligent woman would’ve listened to the warnings Jackson was giving her, but noooooo, Gabby wanted to prove she could take care of herself. Spoiler alert: she couldn’t.)

So, long-story-short, this one didn’t deliver on what it promised AT ALL, despite having a great blurb and a truly awesome cover. Boo!

3 ok stars. Overall, this is a good second chance story! It had an ok a plot. The story drags in the beginning. After 30% mark that’s when it gets very fast paced with non stop danger, action, and suspense. I enjoyed the characters and some of the secondary ones as well.

A Rainbow Follows This Storm

When Navy SEAL Jackson, returned home from Afghanistan, he returned home physically whole, but broken in spirit. He had successfully performed his duties for his country, but he feels that he is a failure—he was unable to save the life of Denny, one of his closest friends and fellow SEAL when they were ambushed while on a mission in insurgent territory. The band of SEAL brothers, that included Jackson’s own younger blood brother, Jared, have settled in Station Springs, Colorado and have gone into business together, turning their refined military skills to work as partners in Elite Securicorp, an exclusive, highly sought security agency and another venture, a local diner Dirty Dens, named in memory of their fallen military brother.

Now, Jackson and Jared’s younger sister Carly and her best friend, Gabby, are coming to spend the weekend with Jared to attend a concert. For both Jackson and Gabby, this weekend will be difficult. They had been a devoted couple during high school, and the relationship continued until Jackson, with the best of intentions, ended the relationship. Loving her deeply, he felt that he could not claim Gabby’s heart and limit her future when he did not know what his future as a Seal would bring. His act of love broke Gabby’s heart. She did move forward, went to college and dated others, but her heart was never touched as it had been by Jackson.

The girls’ weekend of planned fun turns into the weekend from hell when, unknown to them, the perfect storm, both meteorologically and mafia generated combine. The anticipated concert is threatened by a record-breaking snowstorm and the unexpected arrival of a warring mafia brothers of the Gianni family, both seeking to find the hidden treasures of their recently murdered father, merge. The girls unwittingly come to the malignant attention of the Benny Gianni Junior when Gabby rebuffs his sexual attention, and Benny, not accustomed to being slighted, arranges for the girls to be kidnapped and secreted away to his family’s mountain estate just as the anticipated blizzard winds up.

Jackson, Jared and the Seal brothers unite forces to find the girls and to destroy the Gianni mafia family. But, the personal war waged between Gabby and Jackson for the their future seems more doubtful of success than overcoming the threats of the breaking blizzard and the Gianni brothers.

Once more KC Crowne has woven multiple threads together to create a story filled with the emotions of family relationships, both healthy and twisted, friendship, and romantic love. Crowne keeps the reader turning pages to arrive at the happily-ever-after ending so desperately sought, and always delivered!

Gabby has jealous , stalker boyfriend that is sort of creepy but it was cute at the beginning of their relationship. She knows it is time to break up with him, but their is one man she will always love, Jackson her best friend’s brother. He joined the Navy and left her behind only to break up with her later.

Gabby and her best friend decide to go off on a girl’s weekend to see a concert and stay with her friends brother Jared, her boyfriend did not like this at all and instead of breaking up with him at that moment, she does nothing until she finds him with another woman.

And Jackson after a hard tour after losing his friend he leaves the Navy Seals now he owns a diner and runs a security agency with his three Navy Seals buddies. When Gabby gets herself into a tight situation with Benny at a bar on their first night of their girls vacay all hell breaks loose and Jackson helps rescue her. It that’s not the end of her trouble when she gets kidnapped and Jackson and his buddies are in for the rescue again. With all of this the relationship between the two of them is still unsure because of both Jackson being scared he is not right for her and Gabby being terrified of getting hurt again by Jackson.
This story has everything a second chance, cheating ex, the mob and a kidnapping. How can you get bore with this story. I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.

This is a wonderful second chance story. Gabby and Jackson are strong, determined characters who fight their way back to happiness. They have to fight their way towards love physically as well as within their hearts. They are supported in their battle by strong, loyal and loving friends and family. It was a real pleasure to follow the development of the story, to go through all the tension the suspense created, in order to reach to the happy ending!

I had a hard time getting into the story.

Gabby and Jackson are ex's. He left to go to war and dumped her. He's regretted it ever since. Now Gabby and Carly, Jackson's sister, are in town for a few days. Gabby rubs a mob boss the wrong way and that's where the story falls apart for me.

The story between Gabby and Jackson was enough. He has tons of baggage. There was no need for a subplot.

Great plot and love interest, some tense as well as steamy moments. Not sure why its called big bad mountain man though? Also a little pissed that she used a hair clip to open a cupboard in a locked room instead of trying to open the door to escape! (why).. Some things did not make sense at all, but it was a good read - glad to see the title has changed as well to (The Storm).

Another good story. Jackson was silly to let Gabby go all those years ago. His thoughts to try to make sure she was happy was a good sign, he should have talked to her about it. I am just glad that they got another chance. I am glad that Benny got what he had coming to him. Thank you.

How wonderful is it that two high school sweethearts get back together years later, and the when one gets kidnapped with the others sister the hero comes into to save the day, you'll enjoy this as they stumble towards one another.

Decent read

In this book we meet Gabby and Jackson. Gabby and Jackson used to be high school sweethearts. That is until Jackson decided to join the navy and break Gabby's heart. Now years later they are both in the same place at the same time again. However neither is that love sick teenager they once were. Jackson not only made it in the navy he became a seal however one mission was all it took to change everything for him. Not only did he loose a friend, a seal brother, but also a small part of himself out there that day. Now he is back in on American soil he and his real brother, plus two from their team have joined up to start a security firm and they work with wealthy people to protect them anywhere on the globe. So when they learn that in the town they live in, in Colorado having the possibility of a mob bosses kid coming to town that is something they are getting involved in. Gabby knows the guy she is currently dating isn't going anywhere fast and she should end things. She didn't expect to catch him cheating with the bartender of the bar that she and her best friend are trying to have a girls night at. She takes it like the sign it is and dumps the doush and gets ready for a concert the following weekend with her bestie. Little did either of them know that the storm that is headed their way is more than just the weather. Will these two finally get their HEA or will outside forces make sure that never happens?

This is another amazing story by this author. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about and trust me there is a lot I want to tell you. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

When she shows up with his younger sister the sparks are still there.
Gabby goes out with her best friend at a local bar where mobsters show up and they are interested in her. Now with the worst snowstorm to hit Station Springs Jackson and his brothers, blood and honorable, are out to rescue Carly and Gabby from the mobsters that kidnapped them.
This was a good read.

Gabby is heading out of town to Station Springs with her best friend, Carly for a concert to their favorite band, Roxi Lane. Perfection for a girls weekend! Except they are staying at her best friend's younger brother, Jared's place, no biggie, at least it's not with her older brother, Jackson. Gabby and Jackson broke that one rule long ago but when Jackson was all trained up as a Navy SEAL and ready for his first mission, he broke up with her. Her did.more than break Gabby's heart, he shattered it. She has had nothing but crap relationships over the years. Prime example her current, well, I guess now ex, just showed up at the bar she was at to cheat on her with the bartender in the bathroom. UGH! She catches Todd red handed in the bathroom, breaks up with him and leaves with her freedom. There is talk of a huge snow storm, the worst un years.coming in, surely the media is playing this up, its Colorado they are used to snow. But this is just the beginning of Gabby and Carly's crazy weekend. The weekend where their plans get so waylaid that it is amazing every one makes it through alive. No over dramatic in that sentence. This is a really good story of how the two girls who left for a concert, in a snow storm get caught up in a mafia feud. Can Carly's SEAL brothers and their team save the girls? Can Gabby and Jackson settle the past and.move forward with a future? Enjoy!

This book has a little bit of everything mobster criminals, ex Navy Seals, hidden treasure and a couple who need a little help finding there way back to each other and there is one mega snowstorm.

Gabby has just broken up with another looser boyfriend and is going with her best friend to a consert. Only one problem her ex is there and she never got over him. Jackson broke things of when he became a Navy Seal he also happens to be her bestfriend Carly's brother. And now that there here and she's facing her past mobsters show up and there interested in her or the boss is could it get any worse yah her ex rescues her and she may miss the concert because of a freak storm and other things.

Jackson is struggling with the loss of one of his men in combat but now Gabby's back he never got over her can he convince her to stay or is it to late. You would think that there attraction and instant passion is would be enough but Gabby's too hurt and doesn't want to try. But with a kidnapper just waiting to take Gabby from him he may not get another chance to fix things someone could die.

There is allot of action at the end of this book and just when you think its all over tragedy could seperate both Jackson and Gabby forever. I enjoyed the book there were some minor spelling issues here and there and some of the chapters faded out abruptly but still a good read.

Brilliant written loved it.
Gabby and Jackson had a relationship in the past and he broke up with her and went into the navy seals.
Gabby broke up with current boyfriend caught he in the ladies with the bartender in the toilets at nightclub.her and best friend Carly who was Jackson’s sister go to station springs to a concert to watch Roxi lane.
Jackson lives in station springs with his other members from his unit and they owned a cafe there named dirty den’s diner and also a company called Elite Securicorp.They were informed from the mayor that the mafia Gianni brothers Bennie and Mario are in town who were trouble.
Gabby and Carly stayed with Jared carly’s other brother when they get there they go out to a bar enjoying a few drinks and food when a bunch of shady looking men come into the bar and the leader was eyeing up gabby asked her to dance and she said no.
and all hell breaks lose.From there the book gets really good with gabby and Carly get kidnapped and snowed in the town.
Gabby pretends that she does not have feelings for Jackson and does not want to get her heart broken again but the feelings are still there.The chemistry and the sex scenes in the book are hot and page turners.The other characters are really great in the book and they are just involved in the story also.

Gabby goes with best friend Carly to stay at her younger brothers to attend a concert.
Gabby and best friend Carly have plans to stay the weekend with her younger brother Jared to be closer to the venue where they plan on attending a concert.The night before they leave they had a girls night but Gabby's boyfriend turned up then later Gabby caught him in the washroom with the barmaid and his pants around his ankles so she told him they were finished. When they arrive Jared suggests going to a nearby bar where they have drinks and chicken wings but as they talk a group of young men enter making a lot of noise. The leader of the group a short plump with greasy hair and a scar on his face comes over and chats trying to insist that Gabby dance with him and when she tells him no he turns nasty then later when Gabby goes the the washroom he grabs her and drags he r long saying she is going home with him so he can teach her some manners but she starts punching him the Jared gets involved and the men that came in with surround them. Gabby hear the door bang open and a fist appears and knocks out her attacker and she is shocked to see it belongs to her first love and ex who broke up with her after he joined the Navy Carly's older brother Jackson.

What could be more hot than an retired Navy Seal that was once the love of your love walking back into your life. Add a pop star concert, your crazy friend, one huge snowstorm and a mobster from New York and you have have a fun quick second chance HOT read.

Gaby life is stuck. She is working a temp job in a office she hates and is dating a controlling boyfriend that needs to be let go sooner rather than later. Having tickets to see her favorite pop star with her best friend in the home town of her best friends older brother who just so happens to be her first love is just what she needs.

Jackson has loved Gabby for years and even though he let her go all those years ago thinking it was for her own good he has never forgot her or stopped loving her. When she shows up with his younger sister the sparks are still there.

I loved this quick read. It has everything that a second chance best friends older brother love story should have. I would love to read more about these brothers and ex service men in later books. You get Hot, Sweet, a tad suspense and what everyone wants in a story a HEA.

Jackson is an ex-navy seal who has seen some extremely terrible scenes within his time. He left behind his childhood sweetheart, who he broke things off with so she could meet a man who could be there for her & give her everything she ever wanted.

Gabby is that childhood sweetheart. She is also Jackson's little sister Carly's best friend. She's never been able to truly get over Jackson as he completely broke her heart. She dates complete douches, but none of them ever measure up to him.

Gabby & Carly are attending a concert together one weekend & decide to stay with Carlys other brother Jared. He is also an ex-navy seal & fully understands what his older brother has been through.

The whole story then ignites into flames! Gripping me to the edge of my seat, I clung to every word wanting, no needing to find out what happens next!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone - It's full of dramatics scenes & playfulness equally & definitely a book NOT to be missed!
