Wish and Rocky took me through it emotionally! Goldie was my favorite character and she was a true friend! At first I really wasn't feeling Rocky but he gradually became bae for me! Wish wasn t innocent in everything and I cussed her out a few times! I hadn't read anything by Lucinda in awhile prior to this release and now I want her entire catalog! This was a nice long good book just like I like em!
This book was okay...it’s lost me at some points in the story...all the back and forth between rocky and wish was slightly annoying...but i did like the bonds the girls had as friends. This book was okay but a lil excessive at times.
Lu, you’ve outdone yourself! This lengthy novel was filled with drama, anticipation and loaded with GEMS! Wish and Rocky was a mess! They brought that real hood love front and center. The bond Goldie, wish and Neece shared was REAL! This juicy story explored their adolescent years until adulthood, and I loved it!
What I liked: I thought this book was written and edited well. I really like the plot twist with Rocky at the end that led to his enlightenment. I thought it was a good way to bring it full circle because I didn’t see that coming even though it was something that had been mentioned countless times throughout the book. I liked that the idea of the story following along with the main characters love story from when they were teenagers until adulthood. I loved Rocky’s relationship with his baby sis ☹ and the bond Wish, Goldie, and Neecie seemed to have.
What I did not like: Well. Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait to finish this book. I honestly felt like it was just a book full of the same thing. As Rocky and Wish grew up and their relationship continued, they seemed to continue to do the same shit. Spoilers ahead! Rocky kept cheating. Wish kept cheating. They kept crying about how much they loved one another but then would repeat the same thing. I guess they were young and dumb but to keep reading it was annoying as hell to me. There was nothing intriguing about this storyline because all it was, was the same stuff. Makeup, cheat, breakup, repeat. I was over it. I was not rooting for their love story. They were supposedly relationship goals but I laughed so hard when I read that. Nothing about their story made me feel for their love or ever want a relationship like that.
The timeline for the story was off at times. As a writer, I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to timelines (especially if dates will be posted which they were in this book). I pay attention to them and I’m a little OCD about them so it irked me when something didn’t add up in the time listed. For example, one part of the book ended around May, 2011 and then picked up in January, 2013. Supposedly 3 years had passed. My math isn’t perfect but yeah. I’m a stickler for these things.
In the beginning, I liked that the author kept the book to being Rocky and Wish POVs. But then suddenly she threw in Goldie and Nat in the final chapters and I was completely thrown off and annoyed. I almost skipped through their chapters because I didn’t understand why their storyline mattered enough to give them POVs. I couldn’t care less about them. It bothered me even more that the Epilogue was told through Goldie’s POV. Reading it, you’d think it had been her story all along that we were reading.
One last thing, Rocky was a walking contradiction. He called his mom dumb for staying in an abusive relationship but then he hit Wish a couple of times himself. Like boy you need to get help yourself.
Would I recommend this? Read it again? Read the next book in the series? I wouldn’t recommend it. There was nothing about it that held my attention because it was just repetitive situations for the most part. The author seemed to just want to create a book full of excessive drama. Not my cup of tea.
Rating: I gave the book 2 crowns and 2 stars because though the storyline was nothing spectacular and didn’t keep me entertained, I thought the author did good at the quality of writing. Not all urban literature books are edited well and this one was so that’s something I must praise! Maybe if this story was told over a shorter timeline with more insight on the couples good times and not just the drama, then maybe I would have rated it higher and been more connected to the characters.
So freaking good! I wish this wasn't a standalone bc I didn't want this book to end. Wish and Rocky finally got it all the way together, Nat and Goldie has a family and tying the knot and Necee is having a baby and happy. I was hurt about what happened with his mother and sister.
I so loved this story!! Wish and Rocky had their ups and downs but they got it together and had that real good love! Goldie and Nat got it right too and I loved their story. This story was everything! Funny, sexy and highly entertaining! A five star banger for sure!!
This book just had to much going on. All the characters had hoe tendencies. Smh I just finally started skipping through to see that there lives revolved around in circles of cheating and babies
Finally' finally, finally, we got ourselves a winner... This deserve more than a 5 stars...
Finally I have stumbled upon a book from this author where my lead character albeit still bed hopping and all, was not that weak and all but strong, demanding respect and being loyal to her girls. This is what I truly like in a book where you can feel the stress of someone's everyday struggle but still be understanding of how good you can have something. Wish truly was a fighter and all. Young but still wise and Bing young made so much mistakes but at the and she tighten up. Wished she didn't do her last thing with Tim, but oh well this author is usually worst than that so it was still a breath of fresh air to have her being more modest. Rocky on the other end took the crown and for that it was so refreshing because usually this author will give you a run for your money between these two, but he took the crown. Handsome and also young, he tried and came out on top and became the best of the best. Nat was so cute and all but for a grown ma so childish but he came thru as well. Goldie, Goldie, Goldie, you are the it girl, the bae of all bae and the best BFF than all. Man I just love you and all. Loyal, beautiful, and straight was the best character after Wish undesicive behind. Neecee man I wish you had more part in and hope you have your story and that's why you were not giving too much talk in this book. This is the type of story us the reader look into. Even though it was the kids setting instead of a young adult to adult but it was spinned up beautifully and perfectly. With this author beautiful penmanship made this story deserving more than 5 stars... Bravo, bravo, bravo.... Please keep writing like this, you might get me as a follower...
I was feeling it at first. But then the back and forth got old quick. DNF. It starts with 3 (14/15) year old girls. Middle schoolers. Sleeping around. Drinking. Smoking. They grow up and their focus is the same. Mainly on boys. Like where are their parents. It’s almost like none of them have decent parents. Why they don’t know what their daughters are up to? They are sleeping with grown men. None of the girls are leveled headed. Not one of them were the friend to talk sense. I thought that was Neece, but the author ruined her too. They were hanging with these men in traps houses and shit. They were doing this at 14/15. The main, Wish is made out to be a one of a kind when she isn’t she’s one of the biggest whores. How is she different as Rocky puts it. She as cheating just as much as him and getting mad at him. Again that was when she was 15!! lol like go read a book.Ain’t no way she’s getting around how she is and she’s the prize. If anything she is being talked about between the men and damaged goods. Even if they weren’t so young which turned me off the most. The cheating constantly between the couple was next on the list. Like just break them up for good. Then Neece went from a virgin to being pregnant and not knowing who the father is like what? All the guys they deal with are pedophiles. I got far because I keep overlooking it. But now Wish is pregnant and still want to be a hoe so bad. But Rocky pretty much simping now and nah!

Yesssss Lucinda John never disappoints with these rollercoaster relationships.........I sooooo loved this book it brought me back with the old school feel of everything from downloading to lime wire to wearing the big earrings and bangles to walking around with the hottest outfits on with your crew trying to look cute. True friendship is becoming a rare commodity these days and i LOVE the relationship that Necee, Goldie and Wish share. I loved how this book showed the growth of each character even with Rocky.......No relationship is perfect and sometimes you have to go through some shit that will make or break a relationship and we know wish and rocky went through more than I can ever imagine both partys this was an awesome book and baby i wish this was a series because it was soooo much tea for one book but I cant wait to see what Lucinda has in store next.....if you havent read you know to get on this one right here
This was my first time reading this author work I now know it wouldn't be my last the story flowed from beginning to end... I love the solid friendship the girls had that type is very hard to find nowadays nobody is genuine happy for you are got your baq like they had each other they moved as 1... I was rooting for Tim until his stunt in Vegas because he was truly always there Rocky did Rocky so long because Wish allowed it & couldn't take the 1 time she messed up that's normal tho a person will get sick when they get a dose of they own medicine... I hated what happen to his mom and sister .. Glad Ky got her own happy ending as well as the rest....
...Young Love Old Love Never Be Nobody Fool History Doesn't Guarantee Happiness Nowadays Neither Does LOYALTY....
This book was an OK read. I guess this would have been a good read for me when I was in my 20s and younger, but at 35, Not so much. I think I have lived long enough to spot bullsh*t and some of the things that happen in this story is kinda predictable. And I didn't like the Rocky character. He always wanted to lay hands on "the love of his life". I didn't like the character of his friend either. They got on my nerves trying to be someone's daddy, walking around saying what the "law" is. I also felt like the whole scene of Rocky finding the abortion pill bottle was a little lazy on the author's part. Like really! That's how he found out!!?? Quite a bit unrealistic and no imagination went into it. But this would be a good book for the younger generation

This was a very good story. I enjoyed watching the characters grow up from teens to adults. Lucinda John is one of the best authors I’ve read from. I see growth from one series to the next, and from one book to the next. She doesn’t follow that same storyline or plot sequence that everyone follows and it shows. Sometimes I hate her characters but what’s a good book without a character you hate? In this book I hated how Wish and Tim kept finding a way back to each other but that happens in life. Great read!!
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being absolute trash and 10 being good as good can be:
Total Book Experience 10/10 Plot/Storyline 10/10 Writing (Errors) 10/10 Characters 10/10 Book Cover 10/10
Good wholesome love 😍 I like the book! It was a good and easy read. It was a little bit hard for me to connect with Wish's character. I don't know, maybe because of the timespan it was a lot to fit into the small space. I figure writing a standalone is a little bit different than a series, in that you have to wrap it all up in one book. Tim must have been light skinned 😎 I don't remember the description of him, but he definitely acted like a light skinned dude lol. Well I normally love this authors work, and this time was no different, except I couldn't really vibe with Wish (reason for the 3 stars).
I think this is the best book you've written ever!!! Like the flow of the story had you sucked into each and every page, & kept you either mad, irritated, laughing, or sad..... I love your work but this book right here was a definite page-turner and 5 * read. I literally didn't wanna put it down until I was done. I also loved how each era/time-period was actually correct like with music, hairstyles, clothes etc. I've read books supposedly set years ago but bumpin music that dropped recently. Lol, Anyway issa must read & I'd most def recommend it.
This book was everything. True story when being young and falling in love. Adults tell us all the time that falling in love at young is just puppy love. Wish and Rocky give the very true version of being in love at such a young age. When young and in love over your head causes the couple to make such mistakes that it brings them closer with each others wrong doing. Two wrongs never make a right but Wish and Rocky proved different. Lucinda brought fye with this book
The love of Wish and Rocky was destined, but that he go through the fire to get there. Wish worked my nerves sometimes, but loved the journey of watching lol The characters grow. Loved how Zy and Rocky handled their issues and was able to move on with their lives. Rocky’s Mom was pathetic..she stayed with the man that ended the lives of herself and her child. Goldie and Nate finally got it together and get to where they needed to be. Ice was pathetic.
This book had the works going on, but I loved every bit of it! I loved how this book took you through the many steps of the characters lives from young to old, loved how they developed. Wish, Goldie, & Necee were friendship goals they were so loyal and down for each other thru it all I LOVED that. I loved how they grew together and ALL three found love and success!! Wish and Rocky relationship had me on ice water and hot at the same time but their love for each was everything. Goldie was my favorite and I’m glad Nat takes her butt! Loved it through and through!!
I liked the book. It was entertaining. I’m not going to lie the hardest part for me is the kiddie porn in the beginning. I know it happens but imagining a 15 year old having detailed sex was a bit much for me. Majority of these sex sessions were amongst kids. However it was a decent read. There were some errors, especially when rocky was buying wish’s charm bracelet. I’ll let y’all find that one. Other than that it’s a cool book to read, especially if you like the Hood Rich type books
So, I will admit I was more than a little skeptical about reading a book about teenagers. This book was recommended to me by somebody and she encouraged me to finish it and I'm glad I did because this book was amazing. I found myself laughing, crying, smiling all due to this book. Honestly this is one of the best things I've read in a long time. Thank you for sharing such a hectic and beautiful story.
this book had my emotions all over the place. Rocky and Wish had me so stressed out in this book. i didn’t think they would ever get it together. from start to finish these two had me happy, mad, and sad. just all of the above. i can’t BELIEVE Goldie let somebody tie her down, but i’m glad Nat and TT ended the way that they did so none of those kids had to witness and babymama drama. all in all this was a very good book.
This was a great read and a true testimony that authors can write standalone novels and be great. I'm finishing this book feeling completely satisfied. We done need 2 and 3 part books. The only thing that kinda turned me off was the amount of cheating Wish and Z did they just confide to do it with no remorse. Wish had absolutely no control to say no to anyone trying to sleep with her smh. Overall a must read!!!!!!
Rocky, and Wish went through a lot in their relationship. I was disappointed in Wish at times because I felt like she was too easy to Fuck other guys. She was really getting bad advice from Goldie ass but I loved Wish Goldie ans Nece relationship. I was so sad when Rocky lost his mama and little sister that kind of stuff happens a lot in black families, I cried like a baby. I enjoyed the book even like the way you ended it.
I recommend this readers looking a book with substance. This is a great stand alone effort. I Loved the way the story developed. I hurt me to find out that my Favorite character, Tim would pull something so foul. I loved the fact that the author had deeper themes (promiscuity, teen pregnancy, domestic violence) throughout the book. Ms. John has definitely gained herself a new fan.
I promise this book is amazing. From me wanting to kill Rocky and Wish crazy self’s, to crying because of there love. I love the bond that the girls had in this book and that they never stopped being real friends to each other, held it down and stood as one. Nat and Rocky had a great friendship and I’m excited that they each found true love and were all together with their perfect for them soulmate!!!!!
From the beginning I was hooked! I love how this story lines keeps track yes it started off as teens but the timeline of growth was executed perfectly to their mid twenties. I loved the growth of each individual character. I even cried with Rocky towards he end and then was clapping and cheering for everyone involved. Can definitely add this to my short list of favorite books of all time
Yes this standalone was so good. Very long! This is Lucinda John I have been missing. The cover is banging just like the story. I honestly didn’t think Wish and Rocky would get it together. I love how the story flowed from their teenage years until adulthood. The friendship between Goldie, Necee and Wish was everything. Glad to see no backstabbing among them.
