She can heal his broken ribs, but it will take more than medicine to repair her reputation…
Nurse Emily Smith’s career was almost DOA thanks to her no-good, drug selling ex-boyfriend. Moving to Somewhere, Texas, she hoped to have a fresh start in the small county hospital, far away from all the accusing rumors and pitying looks. It was a good plan, until she found out her ex took out a business loan in her name. It seems he stole more than a prescription pad. Now Emily has to repay the huge loan or face legal action.
All ranch owner, Derrek Diaz, wanted was a Saturday night of fun. A few beers, a long ride in the fresh air…he hadn’t planned on a trip to the ER. The last thing he needs is to be unable to work. No, scratch that. The last thing he needs is a woman underfoot at the ranch. But when he overhears Emily begging for extra work shifts to pay an overdue bill, he speaks before he thinks. Now he has a gorgeous nurse staying with him, taking care of him and trying to be a ranch hand. Things are about to get a whole hotter in Texas.

The start of this tale is better than the finish. A nurse has moved town to quiet Somewhere, Texas, which serves a ranching community. We get some life lessons as to her loser ex-boyfriend, a person she tries to put behind her but can't shake off that easily.
A horse ranch owner who has taken delivery of a new stallion arrives in the hospital with broken ribs; and due to the coincidence of the nurse needing a place to stay and his overhearing her dilemma while needing supervision as he recovers, she moves out to his bunkhouse just for a week. A better-off woman in town who had a brief fling with the rancher can't resist digging in her claws.
I understand it's a romance, but a man larger and stronger than a woman, who has her in a location where she can't call for help, should not go kissing her when he barely knows her. This amounts to sexual assault (as in, he would not be treating a man friend that way, and it's a clear statement of sexual intent). The woman could feel very threatened and could give him a bad name whether he really deserves it or not.
The last third of the book is dragged out and spends many pages describing why the nurse is going to a bar with a female friend, what she is wearing and why it is so short, what the man thinks and why matters go wrong. The lot could have been summed up in four pages. And no, the rancher would not sell his stallion, because farmers don't do that. The farm income depends on it. Some other answer should have been found.
I take serious issue with the way bank activity is presented. A bank will not disclose information about your account to anyone. Whether he says he is your boyfriend or not. To tell him anything even with your authority, they will make him give your mother's maiden name, your phone number, date of birth, last registered address and any other details they can correlate. They won't cough up your banking history to a man who answers your phone (which he might have pickpocketed) and add chirpy gossip about you. Later, the same bank won't tell you who paid money into your account? Would this not look like criminal activity?
This is an adult romance and I did like the start so I might read another by this author. However, the work needs editing to stop paragraphs consisting of speech by various people, to correct many mis-spellings or repetitions and so on. Just because the spellcheck doesn't notice a mistake, doesn't mean it's correct. The book was free to download. This is an unbiased review.
This was a good 3.5. A solid story, but what was missing for me was the humor that I have always enjoyed in other Jodi Vaughn books. Sure there wasn't much to laugh at with a stressed financially strapped heroine and an injured hero, but I still missed it. The heat level on this one was also lower. I just have one question. The heroines got kicked out of her apartment, didn't get the house she was trying to buy and thought she was going to have to sleep in her car. Are there no hotels/motels in this town?
Sweet Western Romance with a great story line and a gripping plot that keeps you reading. Short but still highly entertaining summer relaxing in the backyard sipping a cold drink read.
Emily Smith is so sweet yet strong dealing with a past that just keeps coming back to haunt her present. Derrek Diaz is a alpha male rancher and while getting patched up over hears of Emily's troubles. He offers her a deal on the spot to help them both out and she accepts. Sparks fly and feelings change, time flew as I was visiting Somewhere, TX and yet it was a sweetly entertaining read.
This was a nice sweet romance. It was a little uneven at times, and it was hard to believe how naïve she was about finances. I liked that it was a fairly slow development between them, all things considered. I won a signed paperback in a contest
really cute, fast pace read for me. It was quite different from the wolves that I have read from the Author. small town cowboy falls in love. both have some baggage but, they get through it and live HEA.
Nice story! Love this author...has my earnest attention! Hope the rest of series is as good .. this is 1st book in new series! Sounds like a great one! Looking forward to enjoying it.... thank you !
This was a modern day horse ranch quick read. The main character was a good person, but dumber than a box of rocks. Who co-signs on a bank loan with a boyfriend she hardly knew? I really didn't think the sex scene towards the end was necessary. It ruined the sweetness of the book.
Nice romance that was entertaining. I wondered why she never sought a lawyer to help her through the identity theft. Both characters were awesome and you rooted for their HEA.
Emily the nurse whose ex-boyfriend was a genuine slimeball. And she moves to a very small town called ‘Somewhere’ to escape her shame. Her ex not only took out a co-signed loan in her name but also several credit cards that he maxed out – and she is liable for his debt!
Derrek the horse rancher who had had a short, but in the end, bitter romance with another woman.
Meet in the ER when Derrek falls off his horse drunk and busts some ribs. Emily is his primary care giver.
The story alludes to existing racial prejudice in Texas (Redneck country?) against Mexicans, even half-Mexicans and the tough times they have in school and with rich landowners. This is not the only story in Romances which talks about racial prejudice in Texas, see the Irish Bride story.
Then we have the somewhat old-fashioned hospital where they still use light boxes for x-rays rather than computers. Still even where there are lots of computers, there are still masses of paperwork, which always amuses me.
A fun lighthearted cowboy romance given as a Freebie in exchange for a review.
Such a sweet romance. We get a glimpse of Emily and Derrek in book one, and I was really excited to see how the got together and worked out. Emily is such a sweet girl, but life keeps dealing her bad cards. She is afraid to even hope that something good can come from her new found relationship with Derrek. A little overly gun shy at times, her story is one that definitely deserves a happy ending.
Derrek on the other hand seems to be just going through the motions. Yes, he's had some bad experiences, but nothing like Emily. But he's hard working and it's just about time for him to sit back and relax a little - even if it takes some broken ribs to do so.
Their romance is slow and sweet and so fitting for a ranch in a small town. DJ makes a few appearances throughout, and it was gun seeing her through her brother's eyes as a change. I can't wait to see who is up next on the romance block in Somewhere.
This is the first book by Jodi Vaughn that I have read and I will definitely be checking out more of her books! She has a smooth flow with her writing that keeps your interest without confusing you. Once I started this story, I didn't want to stop reading. I think I fell a little in love with Derrick myself..LOL..He and Emily were made for each other. They just needed to realize it. Both with a troubled past afraid to trust. Not jumping into a relationship right off the bat but building it up slowly, you just kept rooting for them to figure things out. Met a few other interesting characters in this story that I hope to read about in the near future. WAY TO GO JODI, GOOD JOB!!
Great story! Interesting characters and plot keeps you reading.
Emily is smart, caring, country girl at heart. A little to trusting for her own good.A beautiful nurse who's bad choice in a man almost ruined her career. Moving to Somewhere TX to get away from her past, she discovers her ex did way more to ruin her than she knew!
Derrek is a hot rancher who had a hard life. Landing in the hospital he overheard his nurses problems. Not able to resist a damsel in distress he offers her a deal. His tender heart leads him to his dream - a woman willing to except and love him for himself and also love his ranch.
I lo be how this love story starts, two people from different walks of life. One is a deceived, disgraced & scorned by an ex lover while the other is treated like a piece of meat with a side order of humiliation. I love watching these two progress in their relationship, from stubborn strangers to sweet on each other friends. To see if they will finally let go of any past hurts so that they can move forward is worth reading this book. If you love a sweet romance, with a tiny bit of past issues and a chance to see If there is a happily ever after, then you'll adore this book.
Emily Smith was forced to start a new life after the man she loved betrayed her. Somewhere, TX is the place she chose to begin again. Being a nurse she meets Derrek Diaz when he comes in after falling off his horse. Due to her past problems she is in desperate need of a place to live. Overhearing her difficulty Derrek offers his place as a way for her to help nurse his ribs. When their feelings for each other goes beyond nurse and patient Derrek steps in to help Emily out of the problem from her past hoping that she'll want a future with him.
I received an ARC of this book from Jodi to give her an honest review on her first romance series. Let me say, I'm normally not a romance reader....but I think she won me over. The story line was intriguing and kept me turning the pages. It was just enough romance without overwhelming and losing the plot. A great quick read that leaves you waiting for the next:) I can't wait for more to come from her!!
Saddle Up by Jodi Vaughn is an entertaining read. This book is well written. The characters are lovable. Emily and Derrek's story is loaded with drama, humor and spice. Saddle Up is a fast paced read. I enjoyed reading Saddle Up and look forward to reading more from Jodi Vaughn in the future.
This was a nice, fast read. The storyline was easy to get into and the characters were lovely. I really enjoyed Emily and Derrek.
This ended up nicely for a shorter story. This is a perfect afternoon read. If you aren't looking for too much detail and a quickly told story this is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love this story about a cowboy finding his love. Emily and Derreck met at the hospital when he fell off a horse and she nursed him. She lost her home and he needed someone to help take care of him, so he asked her to go live at his ranch. She took to ranch life and caring for him. He helped her out of a serious jam. They fell in love.
This book was pretty straight forward. Girl with troubled past trying to start over meets hunky rancher whose been hurt. Do they give in and fall in love? Read to find out. Recommend for fast, easy read. I was a little miffed at so many typos, but not the author's fault.
A good book....once you get past all the characters introduced throughout the book. IMO, way too many brought in in chapter one. A few typos and grammar issues throughout too.
The story line is great. You wonder how often a cute guy is really a wolf in a great body. One who ruins your credit and changes your life. But in this story it ends with finding true love.
Making past mistakes in life doesn't mean not taking another chance. This book reminds me of that thought. Sometimes it's hard to let go. Derrek and Emily had great chemistry together. This story was a sweet love story in a small town. Written well.
I really enjoyed this sweet love story. Emily is a nurse that has left a bad relationship behind after moving to a small town to escape him. However, the financial woes he has caused her still follow her. She meets Derreck in the ER and the love story begins.
I loved this book. It is a Somewhere Texas, book. This one was a quick easy read. I think it was worth my time and energy. I found Jodi Vaughn books by accident but I am going to continue to read her books. I encourage you to get this book you will not regret it. This is a return to Somewhere.
Jodi Vaughn's book is the first story in this set. Just finished reading it and I loved it! Jodi knows how to tell a story with the ups and downs that tug your heartstrings.
