Vintner is a collection of poems about an unrequited love story in six chapters. The story begins with a brief introduction of the poet, the Vintner, followed by Conversations between the lover and beloved. Conversations become a monologue once the beloved rejects the lover. The lover tries to talk to the beloved by writing poetry, first by rhyming in a chapter named Nightingale, and then by free verses, in a subsequent chapter, Swan, to express his feeling but he fails. He asks the beloved to listen to his short messages, in Just Listen, written in form of very short poetry, often no more than 6 words. When he fails, he writes a combination of different types of dark and romantic poems in the last chapter, Confessions.
We as readers come across several types of books. Some we like and some we don't. Some we devour and some we just nibble ( some we do vomit 😈) And then there are books which entwines us to the it's character. We live through them. Our souls get entangled. We feel their happiness, joy , pleasure, passion and then we feel their melancholy, sadness and sorrow as if it's our own . Vintner: What's tragedy? A half written love story - can surely be classified as one of those books. Even after it's closure , when the character leaves you and you stand there feeling bereft - a small teardrop rolls down your cheek, a sad smile spreads and a sigh escapes your lips. You try to hold on to the feelings, which though has made you sad but still tempts you to fall in love with love again, to take another sip of that heavenly poison or to take another bite of that forbidden fruit. It's really difficult to review such a book. Words fails and emotions come flooding like river water bursting it's banks. Tried a lot but I fail. I have a very selfish reason for writing these lines. Cause I know that sooner or later Mr Andersen is going to be really famous . And I can well imagine in the future one day listening to the oohs and aahs of his female fans over his poetry, I will smile proudly within myself thinking that I was one of the first few appreciators of his book.
I think I'm jealous! For a man to love like this! WOW! This book of poetry tells the story of this man's love. It's a love many wish for and never find. Tony Anderson wrings your heart with the pathos of his verse.
Anthony held my heart in his hands as I read what I can only describe as tragic love story.. With each beautifully written verse I could feel his hands clasp tighter and tighter around my heart causing me to feel the pain in every word. This story drew me in from the very beginning with a verse that really touched me. I knew from page one I would not be able to put it down. My heart broke with his as I read through his pain. His love. Surely a Future best seller. An absolute honour to have the opportunity to read and review. Thank you Anthony. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.
This is a book of poetry about a lost love. Unreciprocated love. You can feel the emotion the poems portray and the deep loss. Tony is an excellent poet, writer and I look forward to reading his future work.
You might feel envious of the skill of the poet, and nostalgic, for you are reminded of that one love that left you defenceless. A gate to a Persian garden where the intoxicating scent of roses can enchant you and tempt you to touch the thorny blooms, the book is the cry of a heart full to the brim, a tale of sorrow and promised delight, narrated in flowing verses.
