They thought the fears were gone. They thought the nightmares would stop haunting them. But the five of them were wrong. They’re older now. They’re friends. But that friendship can be shattered so easily when life turns scary again. It was bad enough when it was just clowns and sharks and snakes. Back then, they had to conquer their own fear. Now . . . they have to conquer everyone else’s.
K.R. Alexander is the pseudonym for fantasy author Alex R. Kahler. Under this guise, K.R. writes creepy middle grade horror, perfect for young readers looking for a scare! His first book, The Collector, debuted from Scholastic in the Fall of '18.
The clown is back. This time he's a danger to the whole town.
The clown is back, and he's not just after the five who defeated him last time. Now the whole town is seeing their worst fears come to life. He's stronger than he was before. It's not just in their heads this time. He can hurt them. Caroline, Deshaun, Kyle, Andres, and April must face down their fears and band together once again to defeat him.
So I found this book to be pretty much on par with the first one. I am generally a fan of the author. The books are meant for kids but I find a lot to enjoy. This one was interesting. It's about love, friendship, and not letting our fears define who we are.
Like the first one, this book was not on my favorites list by this author. I don't know what it is about the Fear Zone duology, but I didn't really enjoy it as much as I wish I did. If you are new to the author, I wouldn't recommend this as your introduction to these books. I would start with The Collector. It was my first book by Alexander and I loved it.
Meant for a middle-grade audience. I would say about 12+. If your child doesn't scare easily you could even go younger, like 10. If you or your child have any extreme fears of clowns or snakes, you may want to pass on this book.
As I mentioned in my last review, I've grown to be a big fan of K.R. Alexander's middle grade horror fiction. The author does an excellent job of creating spooks! I also mentioned in my last review that The Fear Zone was definitely enjoyable, but felt WAY too much like Stephen King's IT to give five stars. That mostly held true with the sequel, The Fear Zone 2. Our friends Kyle, Caroline, Deshaun, Andres and April are haunted once again by the maniacal, fear-consuming clown. This time, he doesn't just appear to you as your own fears, but as all the fears in the world! As a true sequel, the scares are bigger and the damage doubled, so it's an enjoyable book, for what it is. I did find it quite confusing how often Alexander switched back and forth between the real world and sequences of "fear." It often muddled and blurred lines for me which was hard to decipher.
All in all, Alexander writes quick hit books, so I'll never not enjoy them, even if they are in the same family lineage as IT. Four stars from me!
Better than the first with more adult fears. Still, if Stephen king wanted to sue for copyright, he could. I like that it spread to the whole town and affected people outside the main group this time. Very very cheesy, but cute.
Me and my friend @Katheeja were reading "the fear zone" together and when we were finished, we were dying to read the second one, once it came out, (we have been waiting for 2 months!!!) I really an looking forward to reading this.
Picks up 2 years after the end of The Fear Zone. This I think was just as good, if not BETTER in some parts than the first part! Now this is a perfect ending to a VERY creepy clown thriller! And for being a YA novel, i was really surprised for how creepy!
I have fallen in love with the author; K.R. Alexander and hoping that the 2 books i just got delivered are going to be as good as these 2 were!
Hallween night. Midnight. This time the 5 teens are going to be going to the scary carnival at Midnight. Is the idea better than going to the Graveyard? You will have to delve into 'The Fear Zone Part 2" and find out for yourself! I loved the way Alexander has 2 of the main boy characters; Kyle and Andres being of the LGBTQ society. Very well written and not a BIT of bad language or SEX!
Highly recommended with this one! Ready to meet 'the Clown'? 4.5 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I gave this book 5 stars because it's a great stand alone book even while being a sequel. I haven't read the first book and, thanks to several look backs in this book, I didn't need to in order to be fully informed as to what was going on. This may be the best of the several books I've read from this author. Well done.
This book is basically "It" written for kids. There are way too many similarities in this series - especially in the second book but I'll give it three stars because I was engaged and it's a quick read.
‘’ The Fear Zone 2’’ by K.R. Alexander is a book about an evil spirit and five friends. The evil spirit tries to divide the friends and destroy friendship. K.R. Alexander has several different crafts. The one craft that I really like is when she makes one of her characters say that you shouldn’t let your fears define you. And another craft is that nothing is stronger than friendship no matter what happen’s.This book reminded me of the book called ‘’ Hide and Seeker’’. It had some similar things to the book ‘’Hide and Seeker’’. I would rate this book 9 out of 10. It was a pretty good book. I think that pre-teens would like this book.
Not my choice exactly to read, but I did anyway. Luckily I disassociated while reading so I wasn’t grossed out by the kids’ fears coming to life, including snakes, quicksand, clowns, deceased parents, spiders, just to name a few. Good horror for young people.
HOLY CRAP!!! I could not keep track of what was real and what was the clown's doing! It was such a good book! I wish there was a snapshot of the group after all of this and after college!
This one felt meatier and more substantial than the first book, but it also felt completely unnecessary. We were covering very familiar ground (even though I appreciate the way the fears evolved and this book did a better job of creating a creepy atmosphere). I felt way too frustrated through the majority of the book which made it more difficult. Overall, worth reading if you read the first book and liked it. You aren't missing too much by skipping it though.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first but it was pretty close. There was a lot of discourse between our group, but I did enjoy how the situation affected a wider group of people. I have enjoyed all the books I've read by this author so far and though I will probably not read this one again, I'm looking forward to other books they have written.
I liked the book, super easy read, however it took me a bit to actually want to read it as its not overly as interesting at the very begining but it did end up pulling me in and I was HOOKED! and it was very good.
The book is about a group of friends are in high school and the clown has returned to. Haunt them again and that group of friends have nightmares. They thought that is was all over but its was not over.
Yes for a sequel I liked it. Very good but the clown was less scary. Kyle was not so good this time, I dont get it. Read book one before you buy this good book!
It was pure It plagiarism :D I read it for a quick and easy read for vacation and that was what it was. Nothing more. It is a children's book so I wasn't expecting anything too descriptive.
A good conclusion to the story. I think my middle grade students will enjoy it. Not many surprises here, but a good moral about growing up and apart for tweens.
Superb follow-up to the first book. Always keeps you guessing. I love how the relationships between characters got stronger than ever before as well as showing some new vulnerabilities. Fantastic.
