I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading it again.
We may be facing aftershocks as we get closer to ‘the end’. My rating 4.5 of 50.
This title by Kinley is right up to date. He makes interesting points, supported by biblical scripture, noting that events are happening that leave aftershocks but that show we are not at the end - yet. Kinley addresses the past few years of political and societal trends, and particularly the year of lockdown due to Covid, and analyzes them in light of end time prophecies. He reveals the trend toward globalism and discusses the yet to come global world order. Kinley recognizes that the spirit of “global citizen” is gaining momentum while nationalism and patriotism are being frowned upon, demeaned ... or worse.
There is a chapter on Signs setting out Seven solid principles for deciphering biblical signs. In another chapter, Growing Apostasy, Kinley describes the subtle and covert attacks on scripture. He notes that we are living in a “society immersed in idolatry, sexual immorality, homosexuality, violence, slander, hatred of God, destruction of the family, unreasonable and unsupportable belief systems, unloving relationships, unforgiving hearts, and the unashamed public celebration of all manner of deviant sin.” (Location 1490.)
Kinley tells ‘Aftershock’ Christians that we have a “threefold mandate”: pray for the peace of Jerusalem; bless Israel (“support her survival and defense”); and make disciples of Jesus, from among Jews as well as other non-believers. He tells us we are living in the times of the signs and shares what changes he thinks Christians will face in the near future. The descriptions might be frightening to some, but not to those who know the end and know who is in control!
I appreciate how Kinley is willing to dismiss prophecies that are not consistent with scripture and encourages readers to exercise discernment. Christians may not want to see things progress as they appear to be, but we need to understand how the world will change to fulfill the end times as revealed by scripture. This book helps us to understand the aftershocks of historical events and prepare for the changes to come. I recommend this to any person who seeks more information on the progress toward end times.
With a 2021 copyright, Aftershocks is very pertinent to today, but will remain so for some time to come. While the book examines current events, it is focused on a time in the future, a date not yet known but to One, the day of the Lord's return. Kinley examines topics such as globalism, technology, and our economy in the light of biblical prophesy. He does not claim to read the signs, but rather examines the Scriptures and points out what things in our current society make certain prophesies possible in a way that didn't exist before while acknowledging that God is supernaturally able to accomplish His Word at any time. While it did take me a few chapters to get into the book, it wasn't long before I was telling my husband that this is one that we need to read together. I look forward to reading it with him, taking time to look up each Scriptural reference and examine them more fully alongside Kinley's thoughts. Quoting Revelation 22:18-19, it is obvious that Kinley takes very seriously the admonition there for anyone who adds prophecy to God's Word. Aftershocks is written with insight and caution. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of the book from Harvest House Publishers via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.
This book aims to help Christians with discernment in our world, with inclusion of Biblical prophecy and specific verses from Revelation. I so appreciated how Kinley stressed that we are certainly in the last days, but we have no idea of their duration or when Christ will return. I also loved the call as Christians to share Jesus in our everyday lives, by action as much as by speech. The facts at the end about the lack of Bible reading and true biblical knowledge among self-professed Christians was heartbreaking, as well as the statistics about basic literacy and historical knowledge among American adults. This is definitely a book that puts things into perspective and encouraged me to get closer to Jesus.
This is a timely and easy to read book. It speaks to the new era of global crises that we find ourselves in and how we can deal with it. The author does a great job of laying out the information. He ends with what Christians can do. The narrator of the book did a great job too.
What can I say? I’m married to the author. I am already a fan and thinking it will be amazing before I even turn the first page. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is perplexed by the state of our world, wondering what-the-heck is going on.
Great reminder of our responsibility to be awake , remember to not be afraid, and take advantage of opportunities! Live spiritual lives, wear our spiritual armor, and pray always. Thank you, a great book!
Makes you think and be more “awake” & aware of world events going on all around us. Incredible insight into what to expect as the government cracks down in these trying times & how we as Christian’s are supposed to respond.
Encouraged to continue reading the Bible. And with discernment, selecting books by authors that have a Christ centered relationship. This book relates to this period of time!
A thought provoking book on the days we are living in and how we see what is happening in light of scripture...challenging the reader on how they should live out their faith as a Christian.
A very helpful, short, and easy to read book on prophecy and the “aftershocks” we are now and will be living with after 2020. I highly recommend this book!

The book shows exactly how life will likely change for believers, our families, communities, culture, and our churches in the months and years ahead. Jesus said it was important for His followers to discern the times. Aftershocks will help you do just that. It is a must read for all Christians.
Aftershocks: Reading the Global Warnings Before the Collapse ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Jeff Kinley’s Aftershocks: Christians Entering a New Era of Global Crisis is not merely a book—it’s a seismic reading of global events through the lens of prophetic scripture. It issues a clear warning: the cultural, political, military, and economic upheavals of our time are not random tremors—they were foretold, and they are accelerating. In this age of fear and confusion, Kinley urges believers not to retreat or panic, but to stand firm, spiritually grounded, and prophetically awake.
One of the most compelling strengths of this book is Kinley’s sweeping treatment of history—from Eden to empires, from Israel to modern systems of control. His theological clarity on sin’s dominion is both pastoral and piercing. As he writes on page 23, “Sin’s influence extends to every part of us, deeply influencing our mind, body, and soul.” This diagnosis of humanity’s default mode sets the foundation for understanding why the world is unraveling.
The central thesis is sobering: things will not improve. Global peace will not prevail. The Church will face persecution, Israel will remain embattled, and prophetic history will continue unfolding as God ordained. Chapter 8, “The Coming Super Crisis,” masterfully ties the pre-tribulation rapture to anticipated global consequences—economic, political, social, and spiritual. Kinley’s speculation is not reckless; it is grounded in scripture and supported by data. On page 156, he writes, “Past disasters and crises will pale in comparison to that which is coming.”
Kinley doesn’t isolate today’s headlines from ancient prophecy—he stitches them together with theological precision. In a world eager to dismiss prophetic fulfillment as coincidence, he counters: “You could say the Bible just got lucky… Or you could look at the evidence and conclude that God’s prophecies have a 100 percent probability of coming true” (pp. 136–137).
Chapter 6, “Israel and the Rise of Antisemitism,” showcases Kinley’s prophetic acumen and heart for God’s covenant people. “‘Blame the Jews’ is still Satan’s battle cry,” he writes on page 114. Despite centuries of opposition, Israel’s survival is itself a divine testimony—and Kinley makes that abundantly clear. My only critique is that of nuance: while Kinley identifies sin and Satan as the root causes of global collapse, a clearer distinction between human depravity and demonic orchestration could have deepened his analysis. Still, that is a minor note in a symphonic work.
Aftershocks affirmed and expanded my understanding of Bible prophecy. It gave flesh to the framework—socially, economically, geopolitically—and reminded me that while Satan attempts to mimic God’s rule, he can only operate on borrowed time. The reader walks away convicted, informed, and spiritually sobered.
If you’re wondering how to prepare for what’s coming, Kinley offers this simple truth: Take your walk with the Lord seriously. This isn’t alarmism. It’s alignment.
This book is not just for the prophecy enthusiast—it’s for every believer, every pastor, every skeptical Christian who needs to be reminded that God has already told us how the story ends. And it’s unfolding in real time.
I recently came across this author by reading a book from another author who is a pastor. I am fascinated to learn and read anything about Biblical prophecy. This book provided an interesting perspective. Written in 10 short, easy-to-read chapters, it brings the author to only 196 pages, followed by notes. The scriptures are peppered throughout each chapter to support the topic in each chapter. In this publication, author Jeff Kinley reveals how current societal and global trends foreshadow the nearness of the end times and how the prophecies about what is to come should renew your passion to lovingly proclaim Christ to a suffering world.
