The All-Star Quarterback. A Fake Relationship. A Sweet and Unexpected Love.
Abby Murrow is an introverted investigative journalist for a school paper that no one reads. When Abby’s long-time crush, the school paper’s editor, assigns her to write about the social life of Evermore High, she’s forced to get a real taste of high school. But how do you write about a social life you’ve never had?
Chase Jones is the all-star quarterback at Evermore High. He’s a total catch – friendly, handsome, and popular. So why do all of his relationships end exactly three weeks after being featured on the school’s gossip app?
After hearing Chase has a mystery on his hands, Abby cuts a deal: she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend and figure out who is sabotaging his relationships. In exchange, he takes her to the best parties, the hottest secret spots, and the infamous Christmas Crush.
But as Abby spends more time with Chase, she starts wondering – if this relationship is supposed to be fake, why does it feel so real?

I read this series years ago, and i’m still in love with it. yes this book definitely had some sentences that scream “cringe” but what can I expect? no matter how old I am, I love my YA book series. abby and chase are a couple I will always come back too, I don’t know what it is.
first read : 2021?
chase has to be one of my favorite fictional character. I loved his character development throughout the story with abby!
Okay, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I started reading it on a whim at midnight last night, and didn’t go to bed until 5:30 AM so I could finish it. Don’t judge me, lol. Once I was past 2 AM, I was not tired.
This book follows Abby, introverted and “not a normal high school student.” We also have Chase, all-star quarterback that people want a piece of. When Abby is assigned an assignment she can’t fulfill without being socially active, she forms an alliance with Chase. Chase has been dumped 3 times, each when he reaches a certain point in his relationships. They figure they can help each other... all business.
𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬— I didn’t have many problems with this book. In fake dating tropes, often one of the humans in the relationship (usually the girl) thinks they’re not good enough for the fake “significant other” when they are falling for the other person. This didn’t really happen until later in the story when they both sense the fake breakup is coming, and I appreciated that. Not everything in Abby’s head was “oh, I have to look perfect because of the date in public,” (even though it’s really for the guy). She was confident in herself and even though she thought she knew what kind of guy she liked, Chase was the person that made her realize someone like him was someone she could fall for, and she did. He is pretty great, I will say. Anyways, Abby was actually more comfortable when she was with Chase and let loose, which made me happy. Their banter and teasing moved fluidly and made the story more enjoyable as well.
I liked this book. It was sweet and enjoyable! Bonus: dual point-of-view.

𓍯𓂃 a mini review! --- this was ADORABLE 🥹 one of the purest loves i’ve read abt in a hot minute <3 fake-dating will always be one of my favorite tropes 🤭 i loved how chase and abby fell in love w each other’s personalities rather than the physical aspects. the way they comforted each other and the slight depth of their home lives was a nice touch. though, the 3rd act breakup was so unneeded and honestly could’ve been talked through lol. i also really enjoyed how at the end of the novel both characters have had some character development which i loved! i definitely recommend this if u have kindle unlimited! it deserves all the love 🫶💌
⭐️ "The more I got to know Abigail Murrow, the more I realized how much depth she had. Some people were puddles, but she was an ocean. I wanted to do something that she knew was done specially for her, and her only."
Dit boek las ik tijdens wat nachtelijke uurtjes. Wakker door een snotterende peuter, was dit boek een fijne afleiding. Clean, lief en vlot. Ik vond het verrassend leuk. Fijn boek om ‘s nachts te lezen.
I absolutely LOVE this book. Chase and Abby are believable high school characters, and the story is well-executed and endearing. Chase is the kind of guy I needed to read about after reading so many other YA books with super grumpy guys who can't even manage to speak nicely to the girl they supposedly like/end up with. Honestly. As an author, yeah, I get it. Some of your characters come to you as grumps. But they don't have to be nasty and angry all the time.
Abby is an investigative journalist for the Panther Pinnacle. She plans on making it a good year to set up to become the editor for her senior year. But she is blind-sided when the editor this year, her crush, gives her the social column to give her diversity for her portfolio. She is not what one calls a social butterfly.
Chase has been dumped one after another literally three weeks after they are featured on the gossip app Click. He doesn't know what the deal is.
Abby comes up with an idea. She'll find out who is sabotaging Chase's relationships, but Chase will have to get her into the "in" parties so she can write her social column. With the deal laid out now, they have to see who is the one sabotaging. Is it an ex-girlfriend or is it someone else?
Abby and Chase were adorable together. The story was a quick read but it was a good quick read. I really thought the person who was the sabotager was going to be different until close to the end when a hint is revealed.
This is a rly cute book. 4.25 ⭐️The fake dating was the best! I loved this book so much! There was no spice and the characters are awesome! There are multiple books in this series, but I think that they are all on different people, but I’m not 100% sure.
This wasn't anything exceptional. It didn't do anything that every other teen romcom movie or book hasn't already done. Everything moved so quick that this actually seems like a novelization of some random teen movie than it seems like it's own story. I just wasn't invested in Abby or Chase, so when things weren't going great, I didn't really care. I also didn't really care when things were going good. Im usually a sucker for the fake relationship turned real relationship trope, but this book just didn't do it for me
I enjoyed this book. She is a journalist in high school. She always does investigation but has been told she can't do that this year. She has to do social but she is not social at school. She talks Chase into being her fake boyfriend and find out why girls dump him after 3 weeks of dating. Who they thought was causing the drama is not the person they even imagined.
Actual rating 2.5 stars This wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. Even for a fake boyfriend trope it was too predictable and while I liked the main characters I wish there was more of a highlight on their banter and conversations. Because when they talked I liked it but there was a lot of inner dialogue to explain how they felt about each other.
I read many high school romance books but this one is one of a kind. It’s perfect, it’s cute and it’s so cliché 💕Boy in love with the girl and girl in love with the boy, they just don’t know about it. Nothing is straightforward and yet……No drama, no sex, just pure love story.
Es la primera vez que leo a esta autora y definitivamente leeré todo lo que escriba, jamás me canso de las citas falsas y cuando él cae primero estoy 100% dentro, personajes adorables los amé y necesito un Chase Jones en mi vida.
This book follows the dual POVs of Abby Marrow and Chase Jones. Abby has been assigned the social feature of her school new papers but doesn't have a social life and Chase has had his last 3 girlfriends break up with him three weeks into the relationship. This is where they come together! Fake dating so Addy can get into parties and have someone to go to school functions with and so Chase can find out who's sabotaging his relationships.
Abby is constantly described as weird by Chase but I think she's also a low-key stalker and a bitch. Chase is the quarterback of his football team but doesn't like being in the popular spotlight he's been thrusted into.
Now on to my problems with this book, or more, just with Abby as a character Chase is fresh out of a breakup, Abby chases him down and gets in her car to FOLLOW him all the way to a yogurt shop to ask him to fake date her. Oh, and she almost hits him with her car in the process. Chase is excited because this girl shows up and chats with him in the line of the yogurt place. He likes that she makes him laugh and then BAM she wants something from him.
Abby asks if she can interview him for her article first and then throws in the faking dating at the end. He says no and that he would have to think about the interview because he already gets interviewed after every football game for the sports section.
Abby takes this to next ask him two or three more times in the next few days for an interview until he breaks down and says yes so she'll just leave him the hell alone. Then Abby thinks to herself during the interview:
"interviews clearly weren't his thing"
Don't you think maybe that's why he didn't want to do the interview in the first place.
Later when they are fake dating Abby admits that she made a fake profile to stalk Chase's ex-girlfriend Savannah so she can "accidentally run into her" IT'S NOT AN ACCIDENT YOU STALKED HER.
The last thing that bigs me about her is she immediately judged Chase thinking he was going to be full of himself and an asshole. Then like two days later thinks:
"I felt like I knew him well enough at this point"
WOMEN YOU'VE KNOWN HIM ALL OF A WEEK AND STARTED IT TALKING HE WAS GOING TO BE AN ASSHOLE.
Anyway, Abby is super full of herself at the beginning and drove me nuts. She gets a little better by the end but I still didn't like her.
Now to talk about how much I love Chase (plus some over things) Chase is the quarterback of the football team just trying to find himself and get back into dating after it's been a few months since he broke up with his girlfriend of almost a year. He struggles because everyone is talking about him and his dating life so he feels like he doesn't get privacy or a chance to process his breakups before the whole school knows about it.
He agrees to help Abby because he just wants Savannah back (she was the most recent breakup) because he really liked her. So he helps her with her list of things she wants to do to write a good article. Which involves, going on a first date, being asked to a dance, going to a Halloween thing. AND HE DELIVERS. He takes her on the cutest first date and goes out of his way to make the asking to the dance to where she has a keepsake!
He's perfect and I love him.
The Saboteur I like how the whole sabotage when. I didn't figure out who it was until a couple of pages before the characters figured it out. And that wasn't because it wasn't someone who was introduced until super late. The clues are there from the very beginning I just didn't think anything of it. I love when I miss the plot twist or it takes a while for me to guess it.
Chase's Twin I love her. That's it, she's just great.
Conclusion I enjoyed this story, I think I would have enjoyed it more if Abby wasn't a crazy person and Chase's POV came up more than Abby's lol

This was such an adorable story. The synopsis really drew me in. I am such a sucker for fake dating tropes so I knew I had to give this book a shot.
This is a fast-paced story, which usually works well for the young adult contemporary genre. I thought that it worked well in this case as well but the fast-paced did draw attention to the size of the story. It felt like it needed to have more padding if you get what I'm saying. The world-building is great but it felt like there should have been more details in certain places to thicken things out and strengthen the story. I loved the premise for this story and I thought that the plot was carried out well. I loved the small mystery at the root of the story as well. The storytelling was lovely. It was engaging and comforting.
The characters weren't faceless by any means but I felt that they could have used a little more depth. They were likable and relatable but they weren't that memorable. That said, I enjoyed the character development for both Abby and Chase. Their journeys were significant and the change in their characters was evident at the end of the story. I would have liked to see a little more development where their home lives were concerned. The reader certainly gets the gist of things for both Abby and Chase but I would have loved a bit more. I enjoyed the side characters for the most part but they were also not that memorable. They weren't filler characters or anything like that but I just didn't feel an overt connection with any of the characters.
I admit that the romance in the story was cute. It really was. The connection between Chase and Abby was noticeable but it wasn't electrifying. They certainly meshed well together and you could tell that they enjoyed each other's time and brought out the best in each other. I loved the fake dating trope in this story and it was executed quite well.
Overall, this was an adorable story that was engaging but not quite memorable. I definitely enjoyed reading about Abby and Chase and I would definitely read another book by this author when I'm in the mood for a young adult romance.
This freaking book was so cute and sweet it hurt. Chase is the star quarterback who’s last three relationships have ended exactly three weeks from the days they became public on the app Click. All three relationships end without explanation from the girls dumping him. Abby is the smart, perfect and weird girl. She has no social life, never has had a boyfriend and has big dreams to be an investigative reporter. Her first day back to school junior year her editor and crush tells her she needs more versatility. He assigns her to the social area of the school paper. Thanks to a run in with Chase she learns of his dating issue and makes a plan that helps both of them. A fake relationship. They hangout and start developing feelings for the other as they learn about one another. Neither of them has any idea that the other now wants a real relationship not the fake one they started with.Their story is super cute and sweet. I freaking loved it. It’s a very innocent, sweet, HEA young adult book. Everyone should read it.

Emily does it again with another feel good, high school romance. I instantly feel in love with Abby’s quick wit and enormous heart and with Chase’s humble and caring personality.
Abby is such a complex character. She doesn’t back down easily but also knows she is only human and actions/words can still hurt. The epitome of someone who doesn’t let just one perspective throw her off. She digs deeper to find the story.
Chase isn’t your typical high school quarterback cliché. He doesn’t let the “fame” or popularity cloud his judgment. An honest person with a sense of humor. He doesn’t lie or pretend to get what he wants.
Two people who never crossed paths and are complete opposites, end up wanting to spend together, even when they don’t have to.
I was so enraptured with their story. From the very first page, to the last, I couldn’t put it down. Emily’s way of writing has made reading her books a must. Every single one has left me so happy and wanting more.
This was a quick and fun read. I loved the characters. This brought me back to high school and I remember trying to just get through and not caring what others thought of me. This story was about following your dreams and taking on a new challenge to get the end you want or so you think you want and along the way realizing that what you always wanted might need a little detour into real life and having fun. This story also shows how one person can ruin many lives due to their own selfish desires. I really liked the writing style and how you felt part of the characters lives and how nothing is what it seems. I recommend this book for all ages.

If I had to sum up high school in one word, I’d pick electric. It was the nervous energy flowing through your body as you prepared for the first day back. The spark when the cute boy smiles. The lightning bolt of a first kiss, the thunderstorm of falling in love, the rain-swept field that follows a breakup. At least, that’s how a high school romance was supposed to feel. Not that I would know.
“The social feature was a collection of all of my memories of you. Of us. Those memories weren’t for everyone. I wanted to keep that part of you for me.”
This was a fun and quick read. Chase and Abby were adorable. Chase is sweet, caring, and romantic. Abby is smart and driven. The book made me laugh and had me smiling. I enjoyed the mystery behind the story. 3.75 stars.
This story is a high school romance about Abby, an aspiring investigative reporter who gets assigned to do an article about the school social whirl for the school paper. The only problem is, she is pretty much outside the social whirl. Chase is a football player who finds it a bit odd that every one of his girlfriends dumps him after three weeks and the anonymous gossip app that a lot of the students use may have something to do with it. Abby and Chase agree to fake a relationship so if someone is sabotaging Chase's relationships on purpose Abby would be the next target and find out more. It was a nicely written story that I enjoyed although it was rather predictable. The steam level is kissing.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Chase and Abby. Abby is a junior and an investigative reporter for the school newspaper. Chase is a junior and the starting quarterback. Chase is dealing with a curse, for some reason everyone he dates, breaks up with him at exactly 3 weeks. When Abby is assigned to write a social piece, she asks Chase to help her out. The agreement is set she helps him find out who is sabotaging his relationships and he helps her write her story. But what is supposed to be fake becomes real. But the trouble maker is still out there.

This is my absolute favourite book to read over and over. I wish I had paperback but I’m cheap so I don’t lol. Anywho back to the book. I am a HUGE fan of the whole fake date thing so when I saw that this was supposed to be a sweet and light read i downloaded it on kindle and I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I fell in love with chase and Abby and the drama and mystery type. It was great and totally swoon worthy and it is a go to for me if I can’t find anything. I can’t say enough how much I love this book and this author she is great and I can’t wait for more of her books ♥️♥️
Cute, sweet, and just what a YA love story should be!! Chase and Abby are from two totally opposite ends of the spectrum that one could be expected to think that there would be no way that they would work as a couple! If you are looking for A YA storyline that walks us through all the joy and insecurity of a first-love, then this book will fit those criteria and leave you with a smile on your face for the rest of the day!!

This book is perfect for fake dating trope lovers. These two opposites end up making a perfect pair before they ever knew it. There were no characters that were horrible and though there were family problems in the story it wasn't about that drama. This was very light and charming and heartwarming. Chase was absolutely adorable and I wish I had known a boy like him in high school. I would love to see Dylan and Jordyn end up together. They were both great characters and would make an amazing pair. Emily is a talented writer and I hope to read more from her.
This book made me giggle and laugh. It has a good story line and you really get to know the characters. It was a sweet book for me and I enjoyed it. This is a first for me by this author but Emily did a good job writing this story. It was a quickie for me and found that it flowed pretty smooth. There is a bit of mystery mixed with a bit of romance. It is a young adult book but adults will enjoy this story.

After reading the blurb, I was looking forward to reading this book. After reading it I found that I enjoyed it far more then I was expecting to! It’s clean and only has a couple of kisses in it. It also cute and quirky. It’s got heartwarming characters that each struggle with their own insecurities but grow over the course of the book.

Sweet as promised! Classic fake relationship it might not stay that fake. It talks about insecurities and how to cope with them, how appereances are deceiving and social media plays a big part. I also really like the support characters, I'm looking forward for their stories. Easy, light, romantic. It got my heart squeezed and it had some angst worth parts, but not too much so it became a dread - just the right amount.
