OMG! This series keep growing on me! Each book gets better and it makes me think to leave everything behind and dragging myself and my husband dearest’ big -let’s politely say aces-to Alaska, climbing to the mountains, befriending locals, lying in front of fireplace, drinking bottles of Cognac!

The small town atmosphere, the cutest depicted various characters and a lot of smart, absurd, laugh out loud situations: what are you waiting for? Just start reading!

And of course from the beginning like a loyal fan I kept chanting for Easton and wished he could get his own book sooner! Thankfully my crossed fingers which are glued made their magic and we didn’t wait for too long.

I already loved Easton from the previous books and River Lane,a hot blooded, fiery, badass documentary maker/ actress/ director, redhead heroine who are stubborn enough to finish her project she’d started against town people’s will, pushing Easton’s button incessantly (thankfully she also tore up those buttons and gave us some sizzling steamy entertainment) was a great add to this sexy combination!

River is determined to climb to the Mount Veil in one peace against sarcastic and judgmental comments of locals. And Easton Lockett has a plan! He knows the mountains well and he knows how to survive when an unexpected crisis erupts out of nowhere. But the biggest crisis he has to face is his blossoming feelings for River and of course a woman who has tomboy soul and seducing charm at the same body could a volatile combination! Beware dear Easton!

Maybe because of being true fan of Easton for so long, this book grew on me more than the other ones. It was a great humorous, sarcastic, so much entertaining feel-good romance that I highly and truly recommend and giving my mountaineer, snowy, adventures, hot couple, well earned four stars!

So much thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Enjoy the View was an enjoyable book - a very enjoyable book.

River Lane was a Hollywood starlet, determined to sill make movies, she has agreed to make a documentary about the small town of Moose Springs, Alaska. Sounds like an easy light job, but the locals are not too welcoming too tourist (Don't let the bar/restaurant called "The Tourist Trap" fool you). Undetermined and will a strong will, River is determined to do what she set out to do - film a documentary.

A chance meeting with a mountain of a man, named Easton Lockett, leads her in the direction of a Mount Veil. Naturally, she along with Bree and Jessie (her staff helping her film her documentary) all had climbing experience. So up the mountain they went - when I say mountain, I mean Mount Veil and not Easton, who as I previously described as a mountain of a man.

This was such a fun, romantic and sassy book. I loved how River and Easton were flirty, sarcastic, and witty together. What could be better? A ROM Com with climbing involved. This was the perfect book for me. I am fascinated with climbing. My dream was to hike Kilimanjaro until a knee injury put that dream on hold, and if I am being honest, I have fantasized about Mount Everest. It will remain a dream and an interest. But I am happy to read about it and this book does not disappoint.
This is book three in the Moose Springs series, Alaska series, but it worked very well as a stand-alone for me. Plus, it has ignited my interest and I plan on reading the first two books in the series. And I know I will be on the lookout for the next book. Speaking of the next book, I have my fingers crossed that Ash is front and center in the next.

The characters are fun, interesting, and instantly grew on me. I love that nothing was rushed in this book and everything fell into place at just the right time. It was riveting, endearing, funny, sexy and right up my alley. Plus, its perfect reading for this time of year.

I received a copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is Chick-Lit/Romance/Women's Fiction, and this is the third book in the Moose Springs, Alaska series. I have read and review the second book in this series. I really love the second book, and this one I really enjoyed. I did not normally loved books that has mountain climbing in it. The mountain climbing parts where not my favorite, but the characters where the best. I love all the characters and they where fun which made the book worth reading. I loved being in the town and with these characters, and I cannot wait for the 4th book. I will be reading that book as well. If you love funny chick-lit with fun characters and cute romance this is the book/series for you. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Sourcebooks Casablanca) or author (Sarah Morgenthaler) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

On my blog.

Galley provided by publisher

Do you ever have the experience of hating a character, or the actions of a character, so much that you are compelled to rate a book only a single star? That’s what happened to me here. I mean, I wasn’t really loving the book before that point, to say the least, so it’s not like it ruined it for me. But, God, if it didn’t irritate me no end.

First up, a little rundown of the story. River wants to film a tourism documentary in Moose Springs, Alaska. However, the residents of Moose Springs, Alaska have some inexplicable (although probably explicable if I had read the previous books) vendetta against tourists and so go out of their way to make life difficult for her. So, she decides instead to film a climb up a nearby mountain. Which is led by Easton (who had been introduced earlier, but for the purposes of this summary, it’s not relevant). So, Easton takes River and her crew (who thankfully have a little bit of climbing experience, though not quite enough, as we shall see), along with another guide for reasons which shall be explained because they particularly frustrated me, up the mountain.

And obviously, they fall in love on the way.

So, which character ruined this book for me? Well, that would be River.

Full disclosure, I wasn’t River’s biggest fan from the moment she appeared on the page. But I thought, hey, maybe I can come to like her. She’s not unsalvageable.

Only.

She was.

First of all, you would think that, if you’re going up a mountain that has a notable mortality rate, you would listen to your guide. You would not do anything your guide does not want you to do. But no! River has to do her own thing! She has to bring a load of camera equipment that would weigh down their baggage. She has to do it without telling Easton first, so Easton cannot re-evaluate his plans. Then, she has to unclip herself from a line to rescue said camera equipment and thus almost fall off the mountain and die.

And then, when her colleagues cannot continue, she has to make the decision that, no, she must reach the summit. She cannot possibly go down now. And Easton, being in love with her, agrees. Like a fool.

Basically, River just doesn’t take no from an answer, not even a ‘no’ from an expert. Not even when her life is at risk. And that’s the primary reason I couldn’t stand her. The whole “won’t take no for an answer, is determined to get her job done and is ambitious” schtick would have worked…were it not for the fact that she was climbing a mountain, with an aforementioned mortality rate.

Like I said earlier though: I wasn’t exactly loving this book before all this happened. It was a little bland for me, and I didn’t really see anything to root for in the romance. In fact, I was more rooting for River and her colleagues to get summarily blocked from doing anything in the town. And yes, all of this was probably coloured by my not-exactly-positive feelings towards River from the start. Ones which, I feel, could have been redeemed.

Only they weren’t.

And here we are.

So, in conclusion, you have no idea the number of swear words I had to delete from this review.

Although I enjoyed this more than the second book, the couples get together (or at least know there’s something there) way too quick for my liking so I end up losing interest. Also, this has much more of a survival story element to it which is not my style. The characters made a lot of dumb, dangerous decisions. But there were improvements here in the writing style and cutting down on repetitive nicknames.

3.5 stars 🌟 rounded up ⬆️ Enjoy The View by Sarah Morgenthaler is a Rom Com set in Moose Springs Alaska the setting was perfect but I just could not get into this one, I have only ventured into Rom Coms this year I have liked all I have read bar this one … don’t ask me why? as I am wondering the same thing myself.

River Long’s acting career is tanking big time so she decides to make a documentary on Moose 🫎 Springs Alaska sounds like an easy job… yeah right!
The local residents don’t make it easy for her, but is determined to shoot the documentary no matter what.

She meets a handsome stranger Easton Lockett she is smitten straight away a romance blooms between them will it last or is it a holiday romance.💕

Like I said earlier this was an okay read but not my favourite in Rom Coms it’s book 📖 3 in the series which I didn’t know about not sure if I want to pursue this series.

If you’ve been following along with my experiences when it comes to this series, you are already aware that I did not like the first two. You might even be ready to keyboard commando me and tell me that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I only have one counterargument to make when it comes to my continuation of these books – the leading male in this one looked like Jason Mamoa. You know what they say about those Dothraki dudes . . . .

This also featured climbing a mountain as the driving force behind the storyline and while I pretty much lived a lifestyle of quarantine before Dr. Fauci made quarantine cool, I loooooooooove watching (and apparently now reading) people attempting to summit a mountain in frigid temps and zero oxygen. Please note, if you want this book because you are in the mood to read about hiding some salami, it really ain’t gonna happen here. I mean 30 below zero and taking your pants off??? Poor fella’s pecker would fall clean off . . . .

Just kidding. I mean I’m sure there probably is a gif for that, but I don’t need the Feds knocking at my door asking me why I’m searching for it. I already have to clear the browser history every time Mitchell logs on.

Okay so as I said, this is about a film crew who shows up in Moose Springs, the most unfriendly tourist destination which relies heavily on tourists in order for everyone to make a living (see why I didn’t like the others???). We now know the characters well enough that it doesn’t feel like they are strangers and it’s Easton’s turn to find . . . .

And he does so with River Lane – actress turned director/producer who is attempting to revamp her career via a documentary where they summit Mt. Veil. There is a lot of hurry up and wait before the smooching even commences but somehow it didn’t make me want to stab anybody. Oh, and there was also a cute little tagalong . . . .

This was easily my favorite of the series and I’d give it 3.5.

And since I wasn’t willing you find you a frostbit wiener photo, here’s a video I took of Shelby’s dogs with a Nest cam I put in her house and didn’t tell her about . . . .

Enjoy the View , the third book in Sarah Morgenthaler's Moose Springs series, makes one thing clear: Every rom-com should have a marmot.

Handsome mountaineer Easton Lockett gets more than he bargained for when he stops for a woman walking down the side of the road, pulling a suitcase. It turns out that she’s no damsel in distress—it’s actress River Lane—and she happened to be in the middle of filming. And Easton ruined her shot. (And he wasn't the only one, so she's even angrier.)

With her acting career on the decline, River is determined to get relevant again, so she decides to film a documentary about the charming little town of Moose Springs, Alaska. One tiny catch: the town and its residents don’t want the documentary to be filmed. But resistance has never stopped River before, so she’s going to shoot the film no matter what.

In an effort to compromise (and spend more time with River), Easton agrees to lead her and her film crew on a climb up Mount Veil, so she can shoot from up there. An experienced climber, River is excited for the challenge—and excited about climbing with Easton. What could go wrong?

Lots of things, of course. With a wayward crew, a lovesick marmot, and bad weather on the horizon, it’s going to take all of Easton’s skill to get them back safely. And if they do make it back, can Easton convince River to put down roots in the town he loves so much? Can two people with wholly different lives find happiness together? (What do you think?)

It’s so good to be back in Moose Springs again. I love the characters Morgenthaler has created—even the animal characters are so appealing!! I so enjoyed getting to see the characters from the last two books, The Tourist Attraction and Mistletoe and Mr. Right , again.

I’ll admit, it took a while for River’s character to grow on me, but I loved the chemistry between her and Easton. I also loved the climbing aspect of Enjoy the View , which added another dimension. (It’s something I will NEVER do, so it was fun to live vicariously through the characters.)

I hope we get to take another trip back to Moose Springs soon!!

I really enjoyed the first two books but this one felt flat from the very beginning. I got to about 15% and realized I found this book incredibly boring. The author gave me no reason to care or be invested in either of the characters. So I DNFed.

Enjoy The View (Book 3 Moose Springs Series)
Sarah Morgenthaler

Morgenthaler delivers another fantastic romcom that I just cannot get enough of. The series just kept getting better and better. I absolutely adored this series and this one is especially endearing with the characters like River lane, a Hollywood star who is in Moose Springs to film a simple documentary - easier said than done! With Easton Lockett and her staff Bree and Jessie, it should be smooth sailing - but instead they have a steep mountain to climb it looks like.

I just adored this book for the fun and endearing characters I just love reading about. My face was plastered with a smile as I read this amazing book. I just cannot wait to see more of Morgenthaler's writing.

This book though part of a series can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I want to start out this review by letting you know that this book disappointed me. In preparation for reading this book, I decided to pick up the companion stories that come before this one. You don’t have to, since the stories aren’t continuations of one another, but that’s what I decided to do. I liked Easton from the moment I met him in book one. He was a quiet, gentle, mountain man, and I looked forward to his story. Unfortunately, I don’t think this story did him justice.

This book follows Easton Lockett as he’s hired by a film crew, led by a feisty actress named River, to make a documentary about climbing a mountain just outside of the town of Moose Springs. I would recommend not reading the synopsis, because it mentions things that first occur halfway through the book. It also spoils you for the only bit of action that happens in this story.

Since I had read the first two books in this series, I knew that they were more slice of life stories, and generally, I love those kinds of stories! But quite honestly, this book bored me. At first, before they started climbing the mountain, I was okay with the more mundane actions and scenes that were going on, but I expected there to be more action when climbing the mountain. After all, Easton kept talking about how dangerous it was! I was expecting things to go wrong. I was expecting to start feeling something towards this book, other than it was just okay following these characters.

Unfortunately, that never happened. Part of the issue is that the climb didn’t even start until about 45% through the book. That’s waaaay too much exposition for a book that’s supposed to feature a mountain climb. But then there was the issue that climbing the mountain wasn’t exciting in the slightest.

I didn’t feel anything while reading this book! I didn’t ship the characters because I could not feel an ounce of chemistry between them. There was a lot of showing and not telling, but just because you love kissing her, and you tell me how much you like her, if I don’t see anything loveable about this girl, I can’t ship it!

In general, there was not one character that I especially rooted for. Easton was okay. The film crew were tolerable. River was downright frustrating, and I may have actively disliked her by the end of the book. The decisions she made were downright ridiculous. Which brings me to the next thing I disliked, which was the plot.

Like I mentioned, for most of the book, nothing really was happening. There was talking, there was climbing, but beyond that, there was nothing. There are lots of natural disasters that can happen on a mountain. Which was why I was so frustrated at the fact that all of the accidents or plot points that happened were merely caused by the film crew not listening to their guide, Easton, and by actively doing stupid and dangerous things. Which made me annoyed at Easton for not taking them back down the mountain, the moment that they started acting reckless. But instead we get this quote, which is taken from the ARC, and may not be in the finished copy.

“Easton had never met a woman more determined, bullheaded, and maddeningly reckless in his life.”

This statement is followed by Easton talking about how much he adores her regardless. Or because of this. Whatever. To me it doesn’t matter. I don’t appreciate when books glorify doing rash, careless, and irresponsible actions that put both themselves and others at risk. I won’t mention specifics because of spoilers, but there were many moments that had characters risking their lives for the stupidest of reasons. And yet! I never felt like there were any stakes! I knew that everyone would be okay, and I hated that! Actions should have repercussions, and in this book that didn’t happen, which is why this book ended up with such a low rating.

A book that doesn’t have an interesting plot or lovable characters I can give 3 stars. A book that doesn’t take issues like health and safety seriously, and doesn’t ever provide consequences for reckless actions, can’t get any thing higher than a two star rating from me. There was nothing that made me detest this book enough to give it 1 star, but I didn’t enjoy the reading experience, and I don’t think I would recommend this book to anyone. I’m sad that I didn’t like this book, and I’m disappointed that this book wasn’t everything that I think it could have been.

I read the first book in Morgenthaler Moose Springs, Alaska series and moderately enjoyed the cute rom-com. I missed the second book in the series, but reading this book was an absolute pleasure. It too is probably classified as a rom-com, but it is so much more. Yes, of course, there are male and female leads who trade witty quips and have a “one for the grandchildren” meet-cute. The main characters, Hollywood actress and budding filmmaker River Lane and mountaineer guide, Easton Lockett are strong-willed people but don’t try to force their will on each other. In fact, they are overly concerned with how a relationship between two, different people as themselves, would do to the other. Easton is a burly, giant of a man with a gentle soul, and River is a tough as nails woman who can take care of herself and is desperately seeking something but doesn’t know what.

During a mountain climb to shoot a documentary, River’s team encounters beauty, hardship, and danger with Easton as their guide. So much occurred during this trip; you have to read it for yourself. The ending was so satisfying I wanted to cry. The only thing I have a complaint about is the Marmot. Yes, the Marmot. I can still see him trudging down the mountain, feelings hurt, with his little suitcase. I had so hoped he would become a family member.

Enjoy the View is a laugh out loud, yet deeply moving story of growth, love, acceptance, and compromising for love story. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book for my honest review. I gave this book four fabulous stars! #netgalley #EnjoytheView

Honestly I didn't like the main character and I didn't find the banter cute. I found the story to move slow and a lot of long winded explanations about mountain climbing. You'll enjoy this book if you loved the series because you'll see the other couples

It is my personal opinion that Enjoy the View by Sarah Morgenthaler is the best book of the Moose Springs series yet. This book was AMAZING, there were the romance and humor I was expecting, but the climbing really added something extra to this story. There are a lot of very suspenseful moments when Easton climbs Mount Veil with River and her gang, and I definitely wasn't expecting this book to become the nail-biter that it did. My husband wants to get into climbing so it was also fun hearing some terms I was already familiar with, and I loved how impressive River was when it came to climbing. She was another strong female lead in this series, and I loved her just as much, if not a bit more, than the other leading ladies.

Once again, the audiobook for Enjoy the View was a dream to listen to, and I love our narrator Elise Arsenault. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite voice actresses and I have loved listening to her narrate this series. The audio is a little over 11 hours, but it goes by quickly, and I never wanted this book to end. Easton is one of my favorite characters from this series, and of course, I loved seeing him getting his happy ending. I also spied a good setup for another novel, so I am very hopeful that this series is not going to be over anytime soon. The Alaska setting is such a star in the series, and I highly recommend reading ALL of them if you are a fan of books set here and want some great humor and sweet romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Enjoy the View is yet another delightful and humorous excursion to Moose Springs, Alaska. We’re treated with a reappearance of Graham and Zoey from the first book, and it’s adorable to see how smitten they still are with each other.

Easton and River have a similar dynamic. Their attraction is almost immediate, despite the awkward circumstances of how they first meet. They both have a peculiar way of speaking with each other, and as the novel progresses it becomes more and more clear just how unique and perfect they are for each other.  Even the secondary characters take notice of their undeniable chemistry.  I was pretty excited to read this book after finding out that Easton would be starring in it. We first met him in Tourist Attraction, and he’s a solitary, quiet man who prefers nature over people. Watching him fall in love was quite humorous and sweet and even better than I was hoping!

Morgenthaler has a beautiful writing style, and the way that she describes the town and the surrounding wildlife is definitely a major draw for this series. I do recommend this book series to those who enjoy stories with a strong sense of place.  As Easton, River, and the rest of the crew were exploring the wildlife as they climbed the mountain, I found I could see the events unfolding in front of me. While descriptions of the scenery are beautiful, they're not overdone and they don't overtake the story.

Enjoy the View starts off a little slow, but it picks up around a quarter of the way through the book.  This novel doesn’t read quite as humorously as the previous books in the series, BUT when jokes are made, they land a lot harder. I was giggling out loud more than a few times while reading this book.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of suspense in this novel.  There’s a lot of excitement that arises while the film crew is climbing the mountain, and I have to say that this really added to my enjoyment of the book. It definitely didn’t make me want to climb a mountain near Moose Springs, however. I'll stay at sea level, thank you very much.

If you’ve read my reviews of the previous two books in this series (or of the Bromance Book Club series), you know that I’m a sucker for rom coms with cute animals. Like the previous instalments in this series, this book delivers on this front! While they’re climbing the mountain, we're introduced to a chatty marmot that takes a liking to Easton, viewing him as her love interest. There’s nothing cuter than a tiny lovelorn critter stalking a large human in the wilderness.

There were a couple of little things that did require a little bit of a suspension of disbelief.  For instance--how come they didn’t have a Go Pro/ camera that they could mount to their heads? They had a handheld camera, and it seemed kind of foolish on their part (especially since they had to buy so much equipment, like double-paneled tents, for the excursion). Fortunately, Easton comments on this later in the book, which made me feel a little relieved that it wasn’t completely overlooked.

Like the previous books in this series, Enjoy the View has the theme of falling in love with a place, not just a person. It seems like every time a tourist comes to Moose Springs, Alaska, they find a piece of themselves as they get to know the people, the environment, and the way of life.

I recommend this book to those who are looking for a light and humorous escape, one with just a hint of suspense, plenty of witty dialogue, and an infatuated marmot.

I DNF'ed this one. I just found it so boring and the main character was insufferable. The romance was dull and there was no chemistry. I tried my best to finish it but all the characters fell flat and the plot was boring me, so I ended up not finishing it since life is too short to read books you don't like.

Who knew a frigid mountain climb could be so very hot?! I loved the first book in the Moose Springs, Alaska series by Sarah Morgenthaler. The second book wasn't quite as good for me so I wondered how I would like the third. Well, let me tell you, ENJOY THE VIEW is AMAZING!

River is an actress whose acting career has stalled and is dipping her toe into Producing and Directing in an attempt to prove her merit. She gets a job filming a documentary for the Alaska Tourism Board in Moose Springs, Alaska. But the residents of Moose Springs are not very welcoming. When an opportunity comes up to hike the nearby mountain and film the ascent, River's guide is none other than gentle and gruff giant, Easton. With camera equipment in hand a team starts their climb, having no idea how this will play out.

River and Easton are PERFECETION! *dreamy sigh* River is such a strong, badass female lead. She is smart, determined, tough and a fantastic leader. We need more romances (and books in general) with female leads that show incredible leadership qualities while leading a team. River is also lovable, hilarious, and sweet. Her character complexity and growth throughout the book is a testament to Morgenthaler's great writing.

Easton is also written with skill and you cannot help but to fall in love with him! He is dependable, sometimes gruff, but seriously sweet deep down. He is certified: swoonworthy!

This book is seriously steamy, despite being "closed door". River and Easton burn up the pages with chemistry, kisses and lots of sexy banter. There are also plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to make you smile. This is a story whose characters will stay with me and that I will definitely be reading again in future. I cannot get enough of this swoony and sweet romance.

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Charming, refreshing, and light!

Enjoy the View is a tender, amusing tale that takes us back to Moose Springs, Alaska and into the lives of documentary filmmaker River Lane and broody mountaineer Easton Lockett as they navigate a treacherous mountain climb, a potentially tragic accident, a four-legged, furry friend with a serious crush, and an underlying simmering attraction that may be the only thing that keeps them warm on a few cold, blustery nights.

The writing is cute and funny. The characters are stubborn, impulsive, and dependable. And the plot is a heartwarming, humorous mix of life, love, family, friendship, small-town living, adventurous endeavours, dangerous mishaps, romance, and a lovelorn, adorable marmot.

Enjoy the View is the third title in a series that, for me, just keeps getting better and better. It’s a sweet, sincere, steamy tale by Morgenthaler that in my opinion shouldn’t be missed.

I am undoubtedly addicted to the Moose Springs series by Sarah Morgenthaler. Completely smitten! Though I’d personally categorize it in the contemporary genre, it’s probably light-romance. I adore these charming love stories that are not too heavy on the steam factor, but contain just the right amount of humor, sass and sweetness. Each story is utterly unique and definitely not your typical cookie-cutter plot.

The female characters are all strong women with minds, ambitions and wills of their own and the male leads are one-of-a-kind, quirky, gotta-love-em leading men. The town and setting are distinctive and atmospheric and make you feel as if you’re visiting the small Alaskan town of Moose Springs yourself.

These stories are a joy to read and so much fun. I truly hope this is not the end of this series and that many more will follow.

I LOVED this book!⁣

When I picked up this book and started reading, I got nervous because not only is this book about a climbing adventure, but also a film crew making a documentary! I am the venn diagram of readers intersecting on this book 😂 My husband and I are both climbers (it’s how we met ❤️) AND he is a DP in the film industry. Normally, writers get both of these things all wrong, and it’s tough for me to read. Or it feels like a stale compilation of climbing facts that were googled. That is NOT how this book is. Nothing about this book is stale. Sarah wrote this story with heart, and vibrant colors, and perfectly captures the heart of an adventurer.⁣

Not only is this book accurate, but it was a blast. I could not stop turning pages. The adventure was palpable and the flirting between Easton and River was so fun! I loved them together, but Easton stole the show for me! He’s my new favorite Moose Springs hero.⁣

If you haven’t yet, you need to read this book!! I highly recommend if you feel yourself needing a romantic adventure! But I’ll warn you, you’ll fall in love with the sport maybe as much as the characters, and before you know it, you’ll be buying your own gear! ⁣

Unfortunately, this series wasn't really for me. I think my main issue was that it's a romcom, but the humour really didn't work for me. This installment was probably my least favourite in the series, because I liked the setting less in this installment as well and I found it a little boring.

Oh Easton. What did she do to you??

You know how when you read a romance series that centres around a group of friends/co-workers/whatever and there is always one supporting character that you can't wait to read his/her story? Euston was one of those characters for me, and in true romance series writer fashion, the anticipated book becomes a crushing disappointment.

This is the story of River, an actress who is trying to transition to a behind-the-camera career as a producer/director because at the grand old age of 30 she is officially washed up by Hollywood standards. Or at least that's the reason given - the number of successful 30+ actresses you can find on IMDB would suggest that maybe it wasn't her age that was the problem - maybe she just wasn't very good? I may be biased because I hate her.

Anyway she winds up in Alaska because the only directing job she can get is for the Alaskan Tourism Board. Or something.

River meets our hero, Easton, when he has the audacity to stop to see if she needs help while she is walking down a deserted road dragging a suitcase. Easton is a quiet, mountain of a man. With a man bun. The kind of guy who helps others. The kind of guy who, after being yelled out for trying to see if an apparently stranded woman needs help, still sticks around and helps out further. A guy who starts off as a swoon worthy leading man but soon devolves into an idiotic, love-sick fool who you just want to shake some sense in to.

River's film is not going well, mainly because the people in the town she is trying to film in hate tourists and are doing everything they can to sabotage her efforts. No problem, now that she has conscripted Easton, is a professional mountain climber, into her team they'll just pivot and essentially make a mountain climbing documentary instead. Never mind that this is repeatedly stated to be one of the most dangerous mountains to climb (very high mortality rate). River loves climbing! So obviously she is going to be awesome at this because she is awesome at everything! And the crew will be fine!

Now I'm not a mountain climbing expert, not even a novice. But I would think that if you were going to tackle of of the most dangerous climbs (in the State? Country? World?) then some level of preparation would be required. Something more than "Hey I've climbed rock walls and you're a professional guide! Let's go hiking!"

Anyway Easton the idiot agrees to take them up the mountain. River and the crew completely blow off all the safety instructions he tries to give them, rolling their eyes, making jokes etc. Wow, aren't they wild! [rolls eyes]. I think you can see where this is going.

During their trek they encounter a Marmot who "falls in love" with Easton and doesn't like River at all. Obviously a creature of discerning taste.
"The next morning, the marmot broke up with Easton. Its little marmot bags were packed. It was moving on. Sometimes, love wasn’t enough, not when you deserved better. And clearly, the marmot knew it deserved better."

Easton could learn a lot from the Marmot.

Overall the story itself was ok - a little dragging, a lot predictable - but not being able to stand the main character is a huge problem, especially when you're supposed to be rooting for her. River starts off selfish and self-involved, and she ends up selfish and self-involved. Her complete lack of concern for others almost literally gets people killed but there are absolutely zero consequences for her actions. There is no character growth. She sacrifices nothing, changes nothing, but gets everything she wants.

This quote near the end made me laugh because it was such an accurate representation of how she's portrayed in the book:
“I dated this guy before coming here,” River murmured. “He told me that I was driven to the point of recklessness. Both professionally and in my own personal life.” “What did you tell him?” “To kiss my ass. I am who I am, and I wasn’t going to apologize or change for anyone.” Warm breath against her temple was the only thing warm about her anymore. “Sounds like he didn’t get you at all.”

Actually it sounds like he got her perfectly.

River isn't a leading lady. She's an evil ex-girlfriend character who the guy moves on from once he realises she doesn't care about anyone other than herself. Here's hoping she gets killed off in a future book in this series and Easton can get the leading lady he deserves.

End rant.

There's something about Sarah Morgenthaler's writing that hits all my sweet spots. It's smartly humorous, engaging, and I find myself effortlessly caught up in whatever story she's trying to tell me. This is the good stuff.

Add to that these irresistibly charming characters, this quirky small town, and a dash of thrilling adventure?

Well, I just might be addicted.

That said, as charmed as I was by the writing and parts of the storyline, this wan't a perfect reading experience for me. I struggled a bit with River, and many of her choices. I would not go so far as to say I disliked her, because in the end I rather liked her a great deal. But there were moments where I sort of wanted to throttle her. She was a little selfish, a little reckless, and while I enjoyed the way it kicked up the adventure threads of the storyline -- it also made it a little bit difficult to invest in her love story.

And I'm a little disappointed by that because I went into this story already halfway in love with Easton. I'm still in love with Easton. What's not to love about a growly, bearded, alpha-protective, reluctant hero?

Yum.

And please don't get me wrong - Easton and River were adorable together. I really did enjoy falling in love with them as they fell in love with each other. There were moments I couldn't control the beaming smile on my face because this author really knows how to kick up the adorableness and infuse it with swoon. It was absolutely worth the read -- it was just missing a little something that would have put it at "next level" for me.

Worth noting - I read the first book in this series, but not the second, before I picked this book up. I didn't feel like I missed anything substantial, and had no trouble following along. However I do think that it would have been more difficult if I had not read the first book at least. In any case, if you haven't been introduced to Moose Springs, Alaska yet - I promise you won't be disappointed! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars

Surrounding a mountain climbing expedition, this had a different, more serious vibe than The Tourist Attraction and Mistletoe and Mr. Right, but it also still maintained its quirky humour through the characters and loveable, mischievous wildlife (in this case, a marmot).

Unable to obtain permits to film in Moose Springs, actress-turned-producer River takes her documentary to Mount Veil with the help of local mountaineer Easton Lockett. With his large frame, man bun, and grizzly beard, Easton was a gentle giant that I immediately fell in love with.

Forced in proximity on a mountain, the flirting banter and shared love of adventure between River and Easton was perfect. This romance is low in angst, but the protective nature these two had made me absolutely swoon.

"'Tell us why someone should come to Moose Springs.'

For a long time, River couldn't say a word. Then she finally whispered into the wind.

'Because it's where I found you.'"

As they make their way to the top of Mount Veil, this story was adrenaline packed, too! Through frigid weather conditions and icy terrain, my heart was pumping in suspense. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to pick this up. This series is one of my all-time favourites.

Yes, the romance aspect was cute (but helloooooooo instalust), and yes I liked River 90% of the time (and Easton 92% of the time), when it came to her putting her team in danger by doing stupid, ego-driven shit, I wanted to reach through the pages and smack the shit out of her.

Particularly when she refused to listen to Easton, and decided to drag her inexperienced crew up an incredibly dangerous mountain, and then keep going past the point of go/no-go (and after a dangerous fall she was incredibly lucky to emerge scrape-free from, particularly since the fall was caused by her reckless actions), and then Easton letting her do whatever because "she was always ready," when, clearly, she was not. She was an adrenaline junkie with an ego that nearly killed Easton several times.

However, I stayed for the marmot (who deserved better), and for Ash, who I hope gets a story that involves sapphic romance, because that is a story that would keep me invested. Ash needed more character development, because every time she was on page she sparkled so brightly.

You know how in grade school you think all boys have cooties so when you see teenagers making out you get suuuuppppperrrrr grossed out?
That's kind of how I felt reading this book.
At least the end.
So sappy. It is grooooosssssssssssss.
And I know, I picked up a rom com so what did I expect?
I don't know. Maybe not that sappy ending.
On the plus side: most of this book takes place on a mountain so we get a break from Moose Springs. Or at least, we see a different side of Moose Springs. And we get a couple who don't constantly whine over the fact that 'she's leaving! this love won't last!' (though of course, that's the main tension.) And...um...mountains? We get lots of the mountain.
And it basically convinced me that mountain climbing is insane and I never want to do it. Or read about it.
Maybe that's why I didn't buy the ending?
The two main leads have cute chemistry that turns into 'you're the love of my life!' far, far too fast. Like, that's probably hypothermia talking, not romance. It was so fast that not only did I not buy it, I felt kind of grossed out by it.
But also, I still really enjoy this series as fluffy escapism so I'll be impatiently waiting for the next one, thankyouverymuch.

One of the things I love most about this series is spending time in Moose Springs. Therefore, I was worried when I realized a big chunk of the story would take place outside of town. However, I worried for no reason as I had an incredible time scaling Mt. Veil with Easton, River, and her crew.

It actually surprised me how much I enjoyed the climb. I am NOT an outdoorsy person, but I found the mountaineering portion of the story exciting and interesting. I shared their joy, when they finished a difficult climb, and bit my nails, when they got into some precarious positions. There were even some life or death situations that had my heart pumping like crazy.

But it wasn't just a rush of adrenaline I experienced on the mountain, I also loved seeing River and Easton grow closer. The isolation of the setting allowed them to really peel back their layers and reveal a lot about themselves. I learned so much about both of them and enjoyed watching them slowly fall for each other.

Enough about that, let's focus on the romance! Once again, Morgenthaler presented me with a fantastic couple. They had great banter and chemistry galore, but what I really loved, was the way they seemed to get each other. It was so lovely, when they started to see a future, where they were not alone, and it was imperative for me that their visions become realities.

And, can we talk about Easton. I was always interested in learning more about tall, dark, and quiet Easton. He had been a bit of a mystery up to this point, but behind the curtain was a gentle and sweet man with a heart of gold. He didn't let many people into his life, but when he did, it was forever. And for a guy who wasn't so keen on romantic relationships, he sure let loose a lot of swoon. I knew he had River's heart, but he sure won mine too.

As always, it was amazing being back in Moose Springs. I absolutely adored catching up with old friends, while welcoming some new ones to the fold. Morgenthaler delivered a romance that both made my heart race and melt, while taking me to new heights.

When Easton stops on the side of the road to pick up what he thinks is a hitchhiker, he doesn't expect it to be a famous actress, instead. And definitely not his next client that he's supposed to take up Mount Veil. But Easton leads River and her film crew up the mountain in their quest to capture documentary footage after no one in Moose Springs will let them film in town. Along the way, Easton and River form unimaginable bonds and perhaps start something romantic between them.

This book felt very different from the previous two in the series, mostly because 75% of of it takes place on a mountain. For the 25% in town, we get glimpses of the Moose Springs quirk (The Tourist Attraction, the pool hall, the lack of town hall...) but on the mountain we lose much have that quirkiness. The only source of humor is the incredible banter between our main characters and a lovable marmot that may replace Ulysses the moose (from the first book) as my favorite fictional animal. I don't have a problem with this, I just think it's important to note that this book is decidedly different. It's more serious with more life-threatening peril. While each of the previous two books featured a life-risking encounter with the Alaskan wilderness, that was at the forefront and a large amount of plot for this book. It was extremely emotional and felt deeper than its predecessors. I think for people who love The Tourist Attraction for it's quirk and humor, they might be a little surprised with this one, but as long as you go in eyes wide open, it's a fantastic read!

5 stars - 9/10
