Sacred Pathways Bible Study Guide: Nine Ways to Connect with God

Rate this book
Discover new ways of connecting with God by understanding how he uniquely created you to worship him. The Sacred Pathways video study will help you

How you naturally express yourself in your relationship with GodHow to develop new ways of drawing near to himKey biblical figures who share your spiritual temperamentHow to understand others who connect with the Creator differentlyAs believers in Christ, many of us today fall into the trap of thinking we have to approach God in a certain way. But our Creator made us all unique, and he designed us to connect with him in our own ways. For some, this might look like quiet contemplation. Others express praise through caregiving or theological discussions. It's important to discover the particular pathway that will best help you to experience God's presence.

Bestselling author and speaker Gary Thomas reveals nine distinct spiritual temperaments to give you insight into how you naturally worship and how your personal walk with God might look different from those around you.

Unlike the Enneagram and other personality assessment tools, Sacred Pathways gives you tools to investigate how you naturally relate to God. You will discover the strengths and impulses in your devotional approach so that you can eliminate the barriers that keep you locked into scripted methods of worship and praise.

There is one thing that each of us as Christians can do that nobody else can--give our personal love and affection to God.

I cannot finish this book. I liked the premise, the idea that we each have our own spiritual pathway that leads us closer to God … however, the author injects too much of his personal evangelical opinions into it and I just can’t stomach it anymore. Someone who is pro-choice (ME) is NOT pro-abortion! I will always stand beside my LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, and I will also not say that Islam, Buddhism, and any other religion is WRONG. Sorry - I am done with this book at the 57% point.

Different personalities find close communion with God in different ways.
According to the author, there are nine sacred pathways: Naturalists, Sensates, Traditionalists, Ascetics, Activists, Caregivers, Enthusiasts, Contemplatives, and Intellectuals.
By which pathway do I most closely experience the Presence of God?

4.5 ⭐️

This book was a long glass of ice cold water on a hot day. My word of the year has been “delight” and this book widened my perspective immensely on worship and delighting with God. I’ve been thinking about it every day since I started and I’ll think about it for many days and months and probably years to come.

As someone who believed (in action, I suppose my mind knew differently) that the only way to truly experience God was through a rigid quiet time each morning, reading through a book of the Bible, studying it, and praying all within an hour, I’ve felt shame in my post college years when that hasn’t cultivated joy or delight in the Lord, or I just simply haven’t done it. Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely team Bible reading through and through. Those are God’s words and we should absolute eat them up. BUT. to hear that there’s so many ways in which we were uniquely created to experience intimacy with the Father, whether it be in nature, through activism, a sensical experience, etc, felt freeing. God is gentle, and He’s also far far bigger than experiencing him in a prescribed way.
