And they say you can never go home again... When the past tries to rewrite itself, Lacey has to return to the town where the darkness was born. Together with her guys, she'll face the troubled present, and try to secure her future. But she never could have foreseen that the cost to her and the men she loves would be so impossibly high. To save them all, Lacey will have to embrace who she is, and trust her guys—no matter how they might change. After a decade, it's time to come home. And this time, Lacey, Oliver, Colton, Thorn, and Aaron will destroy anything that threatens it.
I was actually quite surprised how this turned out. I wasn't expecting the series to take the turn that it did, for the last book to be only 200 pages, a lot of packed into it and not in a bad way.
It reminded me of one of my favorite Charmed (original) episode when Cole altered time making it so Piper and Phoebe never learned about Paige.
I was happy that it wasn't drawn out, but surprisingly I would have been okay if Lacey had to stay in the fucked up world just a little longer.
Lacey and her men return to the beginning, the desert, her hometown. Mr. Chee has opened up the past and once again Lacey must face her demon. But this time she's not alone. This is a journey like no other. A journey into the past, a fight in the present to save the future. It's fantastic. The twists and turns are one thing. The emotional fallout another. The story took a direction that I never saw coming and it paid off. It succeeded in ways that I could not have imagined. It broke my heart and then glued it back together. I became an even bigger fan of Lacey and her guys but I will admit, I am not a fan of Mr. Chee. I also need to give a nod to the writing skill of Rebecca and Ripley. Their collaboration is seamless. I can't tell where one leaves off and the other begins. This conclusion was so well done, everything handled so cleverly, and wrapped up beautifully. Worthy of this unique story.
Return to Darkness is book three of the Coveted Series and is the last book. Lacey is back one last time with her men. With everything they have had to face, they are all stronger individually and as a unit. But sometimes no matter how much you are together and trust one another there is always something there trying to tear you down. They are in for the test of their lives. Will they be able to embrace the darkness to finally beat it once and for all? or will it drag them down.
But really when you finish the story you see the big message that these two ladies are trying to pass on. Not only do they write wonderful stories for us to get lost in, but they give great messages if you look close enough. So ladies you did an excellent job, and I cannot wait to see what you come up with next.
This is the highly enjoyable and extremely satisfying conclusion to this wonderful series. Lacey and her men have been on one epic journey filled with magic, action, danger, emotions, excitement and stunning twists and all those things keep coming as we head to the finish line. I really felt that this was a somewhat unique series. If you look at it from the outside, I feel that you are inclined to think there is no way that a story could work with so many different elements. However, once you start reading you are quickly captivated and a bit amazed that this combination works and works well. I am choosing to post a forthright review.
A fun read but not the WOW effect. The 10 years jump was some what a overkill. These are giving the feeling you are not reading about the same men. And for a RH it is some what prudish. It could al have used so more spunk and energy. I think is is ok so to have it as a trilogy. I am would not be interested in a fourth book or one from a other perspective like from the guys).
So didn't see this coming at all!! The story continues from the last book and takes you back where it all began and what happens isn't what you expect AT ALL! These characters are great, they work so well together even when....well I'll stop there with that thought, read and you shall find out. There are moments you want to smack someone or someones but through it all you just love them, well most. This is a must read and there's no waiting for another book, they're all out so no excuses!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
My oh my!!! Just when Lacey and her guys think things are over they get another surprise. Someone tries to rewrite the past causing some horrible consequences that they all have to fix. It gets a little dicey for awhile but in the end we get the HEA we have all been waiting for. A fantastic ending to an explosive trilogy written by two amazing authors. If you haven't tried it yet what are you waiting for?? I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
I am a big fan of both these authors, writing individually and together. Even my least favorite books by them are better than many of the authors I read best works. That being said, I am ambivalent about this reading experience.
What I Loved: *The premise was creative and fun. This series wasn't quite like anything I have read. This was my favorite aspect of the story because it is hard to find books that feel different and fresh. *The characters. I really liked the MCs in this book. They were all distinctive and flawed enough to feel real but not so flawed that I didn't root for them to get an HEA. *Heavy subjects but not a dark book. I really enjoy reading books that deal with hard hitting topics but aren't so bleak that I am miserable reading the story. This was just enough to make the good parts feel more satisfying. *The writing. As is typical with these authors, all three books are written well with minimal to no errors (that I saw except a few consistency errors).
What I Didn't Like: *The action sequences felt low stakes. This was odd because the villains were extremely powerful but it read like they were easily beat. I don't know if this makes sense but I felt almost no tension or anxiety untill book 3 and still that wasn't in the major "battle" (for lack of a better term). *This is a small, petty quibble but I wish there had been a small snippet of info about Jacinda and Rick in the epilogue. I am always happy to have an epilogue but I am greedy enough to have wanted just a bit more. *Insignificant inconsistencies that messed with my overly detail focused brain. One example was that in book 2 it was mentioned that Kelly had a boyfriend. In book 3 she had a husband and children. This in no way impacted the plot but these types of things will play on my mind the entire time I am reading making me wonder if I misunderstood or missed something.
Overall this was a creative and interesting series that was written well. The pros absolutely outweighed the cons, in my opinion. I would absolutely recommend this series.
Was a but a little shallow and empty. I think the 10 year leap was a bit of a overkill. I am glad is is only a trilogy. A fourth installment or a book from the guys perspective would not have my interest. Prudish for RH.
Return to the Darkness (The Coveted Book 3) Kindle Edition
by Ripley Proserpina (Author), Rebecca Royce (Author)
Thank you to the authors and publishers for a complimentary review copy. I am choosing to leave a fair and honest review
I love this book 3000. Usually, time travel (when not under the guiding hand of James Cameron) gives me a migraine. Seth McFarlane as Ed Mercer said it best, “I'd rather chew glass than discuss the mechanics of time travel. But Ms. Royce and Ms. Proserpina manage to keep the science in mind while creating the action and plotting. I do have to say that Flashpoint Paradox would actually be a better comparason than Endgame. Lacey has returned to her home town with her four men, Oliver, Aaron, Thorn and Colton. They return to put a true end to the paranormal beasties. Unfortunately, Ollie and Aaron's father, Mr Chee is trying to fix things without using the speed-force, the sub-atomic universe or Infinity Stones. He should know better. In fact, his attempt to save the men and Lacey ends up making things worse. Again, I refer to Flashpoint Paradox. Lacey harnasses power to go to the new timeline and finds that her world, her men and her life are all confused, and destroyed. Ms. Royce and Ms Proserpina tie the loose ends from books one and two in a successful on its own story. The sex scenes are well done for the most part. As are the action set pieces. Both authors stay true to the mythology of the story and keep the magickal systems consistent. Pop-culture is a delightful addition to this series, although as I said before, the DC comics Flashpoint Paradox is closer to the stories resultion.
Lacey and her incredible group of men are back in the third and last book in The Coveted series. The obstacles and literal monsters they’ve had to face have only served to make them stronger—individually and together. But they’ve finally realized their greatest strength lies in their unity and in their unyielding loyalty to one another. In this final book, they are put to the test in ways they couldn’t have even imagined as they face down the darkness, and find that sometimes you must embrace the darkness in order to defeat it. The conclusion to this epic series is masterfully penned to give us an exciting and intriguing story, with plenty of twists and turns to keep your heart pumping. Of course, the scenes between Lacey and her beloved men do a pretty good job of that on their own. These characters—despite the highly paranormal nature of their lives—are so real and relatable, as if they could be your neighbors… if your neighbors fought monsters on the regular, that is. I truly loved this book and the entire series because although there is no shortage of action, the real star of this story is the relationship and the love these characters share. Love, loyalty, unity, and hope are the cornerstones of this incredible series. And now more than ever, we need to see those things in our daily lives, even it’s just when we’re immersed in an exquisite paranormal romance.
* I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All of my opinions are honest and entirely my own.
What a great ending. Just like with all her series, why do they have to end. Lacey turned out to be more powerful than she thinks. With her guys finding her it helped her. Their love never died for each other in their 10 years apart. Ray showing up in Alaska put a wrinkle in their plans. Now they have to go back where it all began, home. They are wondering why Ray is doing what he has planned. Why now? So they have to try and find him before he makes a huge mistake. Oliver and Aaron are pissed that he is going to do something stupid. They all don't know how they feel about going home especially Lacey. As it changed and will they still hate her. Now they are much older and have the knowledge they need to be able to fight anything. Lacey put Erdirg to sleep and she prays he's not awake but if he is her guys will help her fight. I loved this series and hate when they have to end. Lacey was a was an awesome heroine who really didn't know how powerful she was. But the love she had for her guys gave her what she needed to fight anything. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. The review is of my own opinion.
I almost didn't finish this read, but I'm glad I did! In the beginning I was having a hard time getting into it for the simple fact lacey seemed like a totally different person, and I was confused. In the first book lacey was strong, in the second, stronger! In this book? I have no idea what happened, she was kind of annoying, little bit ass**** ish, and she had this "oh please I can't believe it" doubting, which was odd since she just literally fought a demon in a damn dreamscape reality, and in the first book fought a ancient demon who wanted her as a baby momma! So seeing this new unlikable version had me stopping and wondering if I should have continued. I did end up finishing and I did like where the story went, liked how we got the old lacey back, I'm not entirely sure why we got the different version in the first place? But anyways ignore that first couple page mess and you'll be good.
If you haven't read the other two books, stop, go read them first!
This book starts right where we left off in Alaska with Lacey and her guys, Oliver, Thorn, Colton and Aaron. They are preparing to return to New Mexico where it all began. Now settling in they need to decide where to go first. The town is very different now that the darkness is gone, more prosperous.
The worst part of all of this is that Ray Chee wanted to be the one who took care of Erdig, instead he was upstaged by a teenager. Now he's changing the past which totally screws up everything as Lacey shows up in a time where she's dead.
Plenty of suspense and intrigue with hold your breath moments, time travel and plenty of heat.
An awesome conclusion to this trilogy! I can't wait to see what Rebecca and Ripley will concoct next!
This is the third and final book in The Coveted series and I actually think it was my favorite. We pick up where we left off in the second book. The group is back together and Mr. Chee is missing. So back home Lacey goes, a place she never wanted to be again. Mr. Chee has messed up big time. Trying to fix an error in the past, he screws things up even more. Lacey is left to figure it all out and without the help she thought she would have. Amazing how one little change can have such a ripple effect on lives.
I wasn't really sure what to expect out of this last book but I was pleasantly surprised. As always, I don't want to give too much away. I will just say that I enjoyed seeing a different side to things and how some things, no matter what, will never change. This whole series was enjoyable and full of action and adventure. These two authors did a great job with it.
This adventure picks up right after the last book left off . They leave Anchorage together Aaron, Colton, Oliver, Thorn and Lacey. They have gotten news that mr Chee has Vanished not good at all because this guy hunts down demons and Lacey had a dream telling her things were going to get bad if they didn't find/stop him. She is sure he is back home in a place she never wanted to go ever again. Full circle back to where to this all began. Oh what trouble mr. Chee makes too. I can't tell you to much more because it will just mess up the story for you and I can't do that lol. I will tell you I loved the characters they are awesome. The story has lots of action, mystery, spice, twist and turns too I didn't want to put it down! It's an fantastic read. I would love to read mysteries from this group to! If you love reverse harems don't miss it paranormal fans!
Lacey and her men are back and ready to finish things. Someone is changing the world that they know, and Lacey must find a way to fix it.
I enjoyed this last installment of Lacey and her men. Hopefully, it will not be the last that we see of them. It was nice to watch the growth of Lacey and her men throughout their story arc. We see the strength of each character and the depth of the love that they share. Their story has action and emotions that will grab you. I was quickly immersed in their story and enjoyed the adventure that Lacey takes as she and the men fight to fix the wrongs and for what is right. It was nice to see Lacey find her way with the help of her men and their love for her.
This book did things to my heart. We pick up right where book 2 left off, with Lacey and the guys heading back to their old stomping grounds to find Mr. Chee. And of course reuniting with your 4 old flames and best friends, banishing a hag, uprooting your life, and flying for the first time isn’t without its drama. I think the guys handle everything better than Lacey. I swear reading this book even I wanted to find Mr. Chee and strangle him. This book is filled with ghosts and demons and sexy times oh my!
This was a great conclusion to the series. I liked that we saw closure on some open ended issues from book 1. I do think the story was a bit short, I would have liked to see a little more time spent on all of the events. I like Lacey’s character a LOT more in this book than I did in the previous books, I think she shows a lot of growth and strength. The plot line was unexpected and I liked the direction a lot. While this isn’t my usual genre, if you’re a fan of ghost/demon type paranormal than you’ll like this series.
I love this story. Lacey has become such a strong person. She has grown so much over this series. Mr Chee needs a good smacking. That's all I will say about that I don't want to ruin anything. When the past tries to rewrite itself and is absolutely horrible, Lacey just keeps fighting and pushing. She doesn't let it get her down. The faith her guys have in her when they are living in the alternative life is like nothing else. No matter what they will turn to her. They love her so much. It's perfect.
Wow, the title is correct. Layne returned in more ways than one to darkness. However, she was the light to people especially her men. I really enjoyed how this series took us from the beginning and jumped with the years with maturity to match the characters and what they had gone through. The story really came back round to the start in order to finish everything up. The characters and the situations are incredibly written. And then there is a high heat level with Layne and her men that can make one blush.
This is the third book in the series and the books need to be read in order.
This was an amazing series and this final book is just as intense and thrilling as the first two. Lacey and her men, Oliver, Thorn, Colton and Aaron continue to take us on a wild adventure in order to once and for all take care of Erdig.
Every step of the way is filled with twists and turns and some very sexy moments. There is suspense and intrigue with some shocking twists that will captivate you and keep you riveted to your seat.
An awesome conclusion to this trilogy! Highly recommend this series.
The story goes in a very interesting direction. It is not what you expect based on the other two books.
They go back to where it all started. The journey is not easy for them and Lacey really has to be strong to face the obstacles in her way.
I enjoyed the surprises along the way as it really kept me guessing as to what was next for them all. I like to be challenged and not have a predictable read.
It is a solid ending to the series and a reading experience I would recommend to others.
Return to Darkness (The Coveted #3) by Rebecca Royce and Ripley Proserpina *I received an ARC of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review* 4 stars!
I loved everything about this book. Loved, loved, loved.
Some of the books and movies I love pull back the veil and reveal me to be a hopeless romantic, and this is going to be one of them. I sat and read this cover to cover without a break, except for when the emotions got too intense and I flipped over to check my e-mail.
While the ending was somewhat predictable, I loved it none the less.
What a brilliant ending to this mindbending tale! Once again Lacey and her guys endure all kinds of craziness. This time however we add a twisted type of surprise time travel into the mix. Thanks to someone in their lives, Lacey suddenly lands in an alternate reality...and one she's all too happy to get out of as soon as possible! Can she end Erdig once and for all?.Can she make it back to her guys? Watch as love across realities fuels this amazing woman in the biggest fight of her life!
Overall this was a pretty good book. I really enjoyed it except for the part about the time travel. Some of the mechanics of it just didn’t make sense to me on she returns. The setup for it was good, but the return trip really kind of just fell flat. It was more like she slipped dimensions not time. That aside, the story flowed really well. I enjoyed the characters and how strong they were together. They fit really well, and built each other up. It was a good ending to an enjoyable series.
Could not go on without reading this one especially being I read the first 2. Lacey and her guys do have their hands full so to speak. This one will also come full circle I do believe. You will get alot in this one keeping you engaged to the fullest. The authors give it to you all the way with magic, lots of action that is filled with danger and emotional rollercoasters. I do not read this kind of genre to often but these authors tempt me with their magic and characters give me their all.
No spoilers of any kind included. I really enjoyed reading Return To The Darkness so I’m going to say it’s an awesome book and I’m going to leave it at that. So yes I do recommend this book but if you haven’t read the books before this one then I highly suggest that you do.
*An ARC was provided by the author, publisher or a promotional service and I have chosen to publish a fair and honest review*
This last installment we get to see Lacey and her guys head back to where it all began. This time though they are together and have gained more knowledge. They come up against things from their past, but there is also a big twist that they have to navigate. I don't want to give anything away but it is definitely a very interesting look at things! These ladies gave these guys a beautiful full circle ending that they deserved!
A great conclusion to Laceys story. This may have been the most amazing conclusion to a story I’ve read in a long time. The authors really made us feel the pain and the joy that Lacey and her men went through, the writing really allowed me to disappear in the pages . I don’t want to give any spoilers because this is just incredible.
