Humble is a compilation of poems written to Wray's unborn daughter amidst the COVID-19 outbreak and impending recession in the United States. After weeks in isolation, her focus ultimately turned inward and upward to family and God. While directed to her unborn daughter, this heartfelt journey to humility and faith is relatable to every woman, mother, individual and family impacted by the coronavirus pandemic or anticipating the birth of a child. However you are navigating this crisis, you’ll find a little peace, joy, humor and comfort in Wray’s raw experience. She breaks most conventional rules in grammar and storytelling in favor of freedom and lyrical finesse. Humble is Wray's debut novel; a three-part expose beginning in a state of bliss, getting lost in-between, and rediscovering belief. Her prayer is that you finish this novel and tragedy stronger, sweeter and more humble.
I had my first child in Covid times, 2020. This book made me feel so seen. I cried and cried and then I wrote my own lyrical poem about my own experience. This book was so inspiring, it gave me a voice.
