Sierra Youngblood’s life is in danger. After being threatened and stalked by an old client, Kashena Marshal is assigned as her protection. But Kashena isn’t just any security officer, she’s an old flame that Sierra could never forget.
After years apart they soon discover they still share a spark, despite Sierra now being married to a man with a son. Eventually, she realizes she can’t live without Kashena and chooses to leave her husband. But when Jason turns violent, Kashena is forced to protect Sierra once more.
As the dust starts to settle, could there be yet more Darkness in the Past?
Sherryl grew up in San Diego, California the youngest of three. She began making up stories as a teenager. Working for the State of California at the Department of Justice taught her the inner workings of law enforcement. Her first stories centered around law enforcement situations. She married her husband and had two children. She continued writing and attempted to be published. When an agent returned her submission for the third time she gave up. Always the romantic, the stories came with a vengeance after marrying her wife. Her biggest fan, (other than her mother) her wife, Tirzah, decided these needed to be published. First self-published then contacted by a publisher this is a dream come true for Sherryl.
What's with all the cheating? It made me so uncomfortable reading all the cheating happening. These characters are so unlike the ones I've grown to appreciate in the WeHo series.

Yet another great instalment in this long running series. I’d previously binged the other 15 books after discovering them recently, so it was really nice to read this one on release day, and on KU too.
Whilst the book brings in the relationship of Kashena and Sierra, it also weaves in a couple of other couples we’ve met before, keeping the book interesting. If you haven’t read the rest of the series, the past is discussed enough in this book that you could read it as a stand-alone (though it will make you want to visit the rest).
As always with this series the book covers some hard hitting topics, much like other books based around cops, so bear this in mind.
I was happy that not all storylines were wrapped up quickly with HEAs, hopefully indicating a future instalment in the series - fingers crossed with the return of some of my favourite characters.
There was a lot going on in this installment. The book takes us on a three-part journey between Kashena and Sierra, Kana and Palani, and Cat and Elizabeth. Going by the blurb, I thought the story would centre more on Kashena and Sierra's story, but was surprised to learn more about Kana and Palani's relationship as well as Cat and Elizabeth. I was looking forward to this one because I had read snippets from previous WeHo stories about how Kashena and Sierra met and how Sierra's husband had physically struck her in Kashena's presence. I so wanted to know how Kashena kicked some ass ;). Every woman was strong in their own way just like every other woman Hancock writes, all strong. They're always able to rise back up, shake it off and move on. Sometimes with the help of others and sometimes alone. And that's just one of the great things about this whole series is that no one falls alone and is left there to writhe in their pain. If I had one little thing to say that irked me was the infidelity in this one. I couldn't help notice that when the infidelity was done by a woman to a man with another woman, it was okay. But if the infidelity was done by a woman to another woman with another woman, it was crushing. I understand the man who had been cheated on was not a nice man, he was the bad guy in this, but it still didn't sit right with me. That's my personal opinion, my own feelings. It didn't ruin the story and I look forward to more!
Awersome story and Brilliant read. This time we have Kashena a ex marine now bodyguard to Midnighht. She is assigned to Sierra Youngblood Cheif Deputy General Attorney to the criminal division.Who has a stalker. Most of the characters are in this story. This is a story about betrayal, shootings, kidnappings, love, and more. Sherryl Hancock did a brilliant job writing this and kept it flowing throughout the story from the beginning right to the end. Hopefully there will be more stories about these characters soon. Thank you for a brilliant series Sheryl it's one of the best I've read so far. Highly recommend and 5*****STARS
Mixed feeling for a few different reasons ... as per my previous thoughts on the last book#15 I really don't like infidelity and this one was mostly about that - I'm glad to be getting background stories on the chapters we have come to know throughout this series but I just don't understand, why you can't just end a relationship you are not longer interested in to be with someone you want to be with?
The other think is that I just realized that there is a book #0 ... seriously! how starts with zero :-/ so I though I was all caught up, only to find out that I missed the beginning, I'm not happy about that.
Catalina and Elizabeth are the center of this story but Kana & Palani's story continues. Sherryl Hancock's writing kept me engaged in the story. Cat and Kana are special task force police officers and there is danger in the work they do and danger to those they love. So, with that being said I can't divulge the crux of the book without engaging spoilers. It's got just the right amount of action, a growing love and breaking hearts. The story drew me in and I felt I was viewing a film. It propelled me to the next prequel in the series. It's exciting and I didn't put the book down until I finished. I did stop to eat.
Hancock does a phenomenal job sharing characters from other book series within the story. This character fell in love with this person.
When I reread this series, I would read this book out of order, as it tells the story of Sierra and Kashena; Kana and Palani; Cat and Elizabeth from a past perspective.
Somehow, Hancock writes storylines that have real-world angst and experiences (even the bad) and the struggles to get past these events.
I can't say enough of how much I love the WeHo series and "Darkness Past" was no exception. I love the stories, the friendships and loyalty within all the entities, but most importantly I love the relationships that develop in each one and I am hopeful that its Cat's turn in the next book, she deserves it.
Once again, Sherryl has invited us in to the world of WeHo. She's written an intriguing and wonderful story that lets us all be a part of their world. I truly hope she has plans to continue sharing their stories for a very long time to come!
Wow what another heartfelt storyline loved the twist and turns in this book they were perfect I couldn't put it defiantly congratulations another perfect book.
I've enjoyed other books in the series, and have read this one after a long break. I'm not sure if I'm being more discerning but I didn't enjoy this as much. Too many things irritated me. The cheating, the aspects of name or brand dropping that felt like a teenager's wish list. Probably 2.5 🌟.
I absolutely love this series. Strong, independent women with a chemistry abundant. Sherryl Hancock is an amazing author whose works has me fascinates. I have read this series many times and will continue to.
What a awesome series .I love these characters and the story line I just can't get enough. The book is so hard to put down. Thank you for being a awesome story teller
Did not grab me from the start. I was not sure if this was a sequel but it left me wondering why she was shot and how she became a bodyguard to Midnight.
I really enjoyed this book. I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed them. I enjoyed this book it's the back story of the women who were in the series from the beginning. Looking forward to more stories of these strong women. Thanks for another winner.
