I really enjoyed these books.

While reading, I found myself wanting more info on the world. (For example: What was the name of the alien people?) I also don't really have a good picture in my head about what they really look like. I think it would have been helpful to describe the faces in more detail.

The author's too frequent use of the word "whilst" was distracting to me. I also found myself highlighting the words/phrases that need editing.

I wasn't really into the anatomy in which there was "two" of everything. I think that detracted from the harem trope. When there are 3 males to one female, why does each guy need two penises? Maybe others liked this aspect, but for me, it took away from the story.

What I did love about these books was the devotion the cat guys had to their women. I also really liked the way the two older cat guys cared for Ayla. There was a lot of technical details that were explained very well.

If these books had been edited, I probably would have given 5 stars. But I will keep looking for more books from this author.

Good continuation

I like the story and how more information is given about the past but some things are still out there like the "why" of it all. I take a star off because there are still the same persistent spelling errors. When you write "we are.. " it is sitting, not sat. The mixing of the tenses has been there from the start and it's sad a great story is mired by bad editors that miss easy fixes.

final tboughts

overall,i did really like this series. this final book gets three stars because, truthfully,a lot of things fell flat in this last book. the WHY of it all is never really addressed, and that was disappointing. the lack of progeny was also an issue for me. i know that for some readers, kids don't have to occur to tie it all together, but i am a "legacy" lover. i want to see the next generation, and for a series that extolled the virtues three bro,4 -8 kid family, having NONE of the characters have kids seemed out of step with the familial bonds of the series. also,COMPLETELY underwhelming use of "alien anatomy." steam level could have been way higher. anyway, decent series, final book failed to live up to the hype. but feel free to read yourself and form your own opinion.

This can't possibly be the last book in the series, right? Right?! I can't have just read 5 books, expecting to learn the answers to all the mysteries, only to have NOTHING answered.

So, here, if there's going to be no resolution, I'M going to give my own rendition:

The ancient War was began because the males of the cat people got jealous of some of their women wanting to be with the then-lizard-now-blobby people. They created some sort of genetic warfare weapon that mutated the lizard men into hideous blobby guys. They also tried to genetically modify the women of both species with an engineered virus intended to make the women ONLY attracted to the cat men and never to the now-blobby-guys. Only, something went wrong. All the lizard ladies were wiped out, as well as many of the cat ladies. The virus had very unintended consequences for the human women enslaved there, making them so irresistible to the cat men that the men would immediately assault them. The remaining cat ladies came together to seize control. They were so ashamed of their men, they stripped them of all power, erased all knowledge of what they had done, returned the human women to Earth and erased Earth from their records.

Over the centuries, the blobby guys gained a reputation for genetic experimentation on themselves, but all they were trying to do was figure out how to reverse what the cat men had done. They rediscovered Earth and after studying human women in the hopes of finding clues to their own genetic problems, realized that while the genetic alterations to humans had eroded over the years, it was still strong enough to ensnare the cat men. They believed that introducing humans back into the cat society would result in cat men being unable to choose their own women over human women. And since two species would be unable to procreate, the cat people would end up dying out.

The cat women would literally be saving their own species if they destroyed humanity.
Now that the truth is coming out and their attack on Earth has been thwarted, the only way forward is for all 3 species to work together and unravel the genetic nightmares created during the war. Unless that happens, there will be no peace, and all of them are in danger of extinction.

So, until the author decides to continue this series, I'm choosing to believe that's the history... and that extinction is inevitable.

Ta-da! Now I feel satisfied.

Bad luck comes in threes, right? For Ayla she isn’t so sure… her life just keeps getting worse, and she’s not sure if she’s going to survive the last wave.

THE BLURB

Ayla’s realised she’s been abducted by aliens, and with a turn of fate she’s ended up with some friendly ones. She can handle this. Make friends and live life peacefully, right? As a human she’s being hunted, but she should be safe if she stays hidden. But fate isn’t so kind, and it isn’t long before she is captured… and framed for murder! How can she convince others of her innocence?

Kouri, Ostry and Sicah have worked hard to become recognised as one of the elite fighters of their world. And what’s it gotten them? Glorified body guards, knowing that they are unlikely to ever face battle or put their skills to use. They want something more in their life… Then they are offered a job of capturing a human, finally letting them practice their steal and fighting against the aggressive “creature”.

TONE OF THE BOOK

Our Prisoner is neutral toned, however it is a bit more on the more serious side.

SENSITIVE TOPICS

This novel is aimed at mature readers.

This novel features several action scenes. In these scenes there are some gory details and descriptions.

This novel is a reverse harem story, featuring three alien males mating to a singular female human.

The novel features topics of genocide, inprisonment, conspiracies and betrayal.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

Our Prisoner is the fifth novel in the Ours series by S. M. Matthews. It is 193 pages long, making it slightly shorter than a standard romance novel (at average of 300 pages).

There is a teaser at the end of the novel that will leave you wanting to read the last novel in the series.

REVIEW

Wow. Okay, wow. Compared to previous novels in the series, Our Prisoner makes a breakthrough for front runner of entertainment. It’s filled with action scenes, which the previous novels lacked. No action isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it added a delightful tension to the scenes that rapidly pushed you forward in reading, leaving you begging to find out what happens next.

The lack of progeny, or children, was sadly disappointing. I am hoping that Matthews will address such a concern in the future novels, as it hasn’t been entirely ruled out as of yet. It’s just a shame that so much of the alien’s culture moves from being so family centric to having no children what so ever. It’s this very issue that the alien brother’s struggle with in this novel.

The world building is definitely ramped up, with some of the the small clues that have been trickled to readers over the series finally being addressed in some manner. Unfortunately, not all your questions will be answered. It may leave you excited for the next novel in the series (and hopefully there will be one), or just frustrated.

FINAL WORD

Our Prisoner makes a breakthrough for front runner of entertainment compared to previous novels in the series. You’ll finally get some questions answered, but honestly you’ll be left with just as many unanswered.

This one was the best book of the series!
Ayla was bought by an old cat-man and brought to a remote building on a terraformed moon. Her purchase was a rather rash decision and Enat got a little chewed out by his brother Uji. But what was done, was done and they both took great care of her. She was sad that she couldn't go back home, but she loved her new friends. We knew already that she would be accused of murder, so I thought I would be prepared for their deaths, nope, I wasn't, it was sad as all hell. Poor Ayla was so distraught.
Sicah, Kuori and Ostry were soldiers that got an order to apprehend a dangerous alien. When they saw the footage of said alien they were skeptical, how such a small female could be dangerous? But they followed orders and caught her. Yet it didn't sit right with them, especially Sicah who fell in love with her at the first sniff. Then they did everything they could to break her out of the prison and save her life. They were great, but Kuori's resentment was a bit much. I understand his hung ups, but he was much too nice a kitty to hate Ayla and it to be believable.
I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't learn more from the old historians. There were so many thing that didn't get resolved or explained.

Great read. St least until you get to the end...

The author has created a fantastic universe with compelling characters and an amazing plot that grabs you and won't let go. HOWEVER... she spent 5 books creating mystery and intrigue leading up to an ending that didn't reveal HALF of what was hinted at! The main characters were resolved ok (still felt a little rushed at the end to me) but by the end of book 5 You're left wondering what exactly the antagonists motivation for their actions were and the overarching storyline is incomplete. I really hope the author simply has a another book(s?) Planned because this story is so well written it's an absolute tragedy for it to end this way.

Five books in and all I have are questions. The same ones I've had since the beginning. How do we still not know what the cat-aliens are called? And even with some of the historical record revealed there is no information that tells the characters (or the readers) what happened with humans in the past that caused the cat-aliens civilization to be completely changed.

Also, how do they all know that they are not breeding compatible? I get that they are different species, but different species can create offspring. But, I guess that would be a good way to end the civilization. Make humans irrestible and also breeding incompatible and very soon no more cat-aliens.

I hope future books have answers.

What a fantastically compelling story! It was full of intrigue and action that I just couldn't stop reading it! I really hope there will be more of this series in the future! Anya's story is full of so much emotional upheaval that I could just not put it down. When she was bought, that opened up so much of the hidden exposition but opened the field up for even more chaos. I mean, I won't give the story away, but, dude, this girl goes through some stuff! I just loved all the parts of this. Read the whole series from the beginning to really see how everything unfolds, or read this one first, but you'll want to read the rest anyway. Dang it, I'm kind of upset that I read the whole series so fast and now I have to hope that there'll be more of them someday.

Wow, was this great plotting. The writing and editing remain a problem, but I appreciated so much of this.
- The FMC isn't saved by her soon-to-be-mate
- One of the MMC's is really conflicted because mating a human essentially robs him of his dreams (because humans aren't accepted and cannot breed with them)
- The author does NOT pull punches. When the dangerous, unglued villains threaten their lives, the villains are brutally and decisively taken out of the picture.

In other words, there are some original plot points.

Now to what really made me mad. This was published 4 years ago. It should be complete, yes? If this is considered a completed series, then I'm a monkey's uncle. What happened thousands of years ago? We are constantly teased about the war and genetic experiments and the switch from a Patriarchal to a Matriarchal society and the role of humans in their society. But it's all just left a complete mystery. This is why I choose to only read complete series, with rare exceptions. Now I'm just left...empty.

I loved this series.. The characters were all very unique even with then closeness of the brothers I'm each book.

I will never take a star away but I really hope to see this series continue. There is so much left to do it feels like. More girls, but even just sticking tor these we know about. The motivations of the females of the species doing what they did. What happened in the past? Could families be had? Change the classifications of the humans? Bring to light what the high council did?... I can understand leaving some up to the readers imagination but this feels like there is still so much going on..

gutted this is the last one

Really enjoyed this series and the last book didn’t disappoint. I’m
Sad we don’t get any more. This last one sees the overarching theme developing further with intrigue and mystery. We don’t get the answer so will hold out hope for more books in the future. The set isn’t so insta love which I like. The doubts and hang ups of humans and aliens mating is explored which is great for a change.

Best one yet

Matthews is amazing at making all the characters completely different and very real people. The writing continues to improve with every book and while there are still some errors they no longer pull me out of the story. I'm completely hooked on this series and the mystery of it all.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This has been my favorite book in this series. Grace had the worst abduction experience but Ayla had it really bad after the abduction. I really liked Ayla almost as much as Maisy. There are still so many unanswered questions so I hope this next book gives some answers even if it a stand-alone. If not then I definitely need more books in the Ours series.

This is a good series. It's interesting in how the girls are all connected from being abducted. But even though the series is all interconnected it never really finalizes. I wonder if there will be more. Medium Burn - Great sex

Well. Baaaaaammm. 3 pages kinda. So the focus is definitely on the people to figure out what they want in live etc and how they develop in their relationship. But there would be spaaaaace in those less than 200 pages to include a bit mooooore of the action...

I kinda thought they'd use the bad guys ship to set off the drone, but this was much more dramatic. Looking forward to the next book.

Good storyline, needs lots of editing

Loving the books but this one needs a lot of editing, then I'd give more stars.
Good storyline and I'll likely look for the next.
