Copyright 2006, this is an Avon Red book, which means that sex is the main feature & some of the sex might be a bit porno. Fantasy sex. There are 3 short stories from 3 different authors. Only Liz Maverick is someone I've heard of.
Liz Maverick, Agent Provocateur - 4 stars. Enjoyable alternate universe story about revenge. The heroine is a prison inmate who has had 3 strikes. Now she's auctioned to the highest bidder or she's executed. The hero buys her to have revenge on his family's nemesis. She looks just like his brother's fiancé whom the villain tried to steal away, before she was shot. This could have been 5 stars, but unfortunately, the story is too short for any development. Would have been a good longer novel.
Kimberly Dean, Unrequited - 3 stars. I read this & immediately thought Lori Foster! This story is something of a signature for her. This author does do a decent job, but after he gets her in bed, nothing happens to move the story along. There's no confrontation with her ex husband (the hero's brother) or his parents. That might have made the story more interesting.
Lynn LaFleur, Victim Of Deception. 1 star. This is so bad. It's also got ghosts. Sexy ghosts, who can't have sex. Waa waa.
The heroine is a sexy bit of goods who was deceived by the male lead in the past. Since that time they've both moved on. The heroine has had relationships, the male lead has sex with random waitresses.
The heroine has inherited a house that is haunted. The male lead wants a bond worth millions hidden in the house. He's a greedy bastard who left her before for the money. Now he's back & sorry. Hmmmmm.
This actually would make a good Lifetime Channel movie. It's got it all. A buxom, hot heroine. A male lead with a porn stache which he strokes once in a while. The ghosts who want to have sex. The living who end up having it.
Anal sex is on the table, as well as anal tongue *ucking. Gross!
So, the first 2 stories are all right, The third (shudder). Not happy that none of the stories used any protection, or had conversations about it. The third story in particular. The heroine is in for a nasty surprise!

Loved the premise--somewhat futuristic scenario where wealthy brothers purchase a beautiful and deadly agent to act as their tool for revenge against a man who betrayed them. Vienna is more than they expected, and Michael can't help falling for someone who was never intended to be more than an instrument to them.

Trista's divorce has been final for months, and she finally garners the courage to head out for a date to test the waters, prompting her former brother-in-law to act on his long-hidden feelings for her. Tyler unleashed is a lovely thing to behold!

The writing was decent, and the three stories offer a range of premises that are at least different from the usual offerings in this genre. I liked "Agent Provocateur" (by Liz Maverick) the most, as it features a strong woman character who, though goes through the usual oh-no-must-not-develop-feelings for the male protagonist, at least approached the physical part of the relationship in a very matter-of-fact way.
I didn't like "Unrequited" (Kimberly Dean) or "Victim of Deception" (Lynn LaFleur) quite as much, though props to Victim for attempting a somewhat unusual premise. I think it was mainly because I didn't really feel the tension in the situations depicted there, nor particularly empathized with the female characters.
There was also misogynistic language and underlying sentiments in all three that made me uncomfortable. The sad part is that they (intentionally or not) reflect the contemporary cultural landscape.

very sexy story about "second chances" for passion and love...
This one would have been a 5* with only Max and Karessa (they were superhot) - had it not been for the uneccessary and annoying horney ghosts (Aaron and Mary) who keep complaining that they can't touch each other (you are ghosts! don't you have better things to do?!)!
d-e-m-e-n-t-e-d... And ghost Aaron showing unrealistic concern when his ghost wife so much as sneezes or says "ouch"... every other description of him is "his loving eyes were full of convern as he looked at his wife" and every sentence out of his mouth was "darling, are you all right?!" > she's a ghost, why wouldn't she be all right!?!she's already dead, nothing else can happen to her at this point!!

Picked this up out of a bargain bin. Considering I only paid $1.25 this was worth the price. 3 stories, the first, Agent Provocateur by Liz Maverick was just OK for me. A futuristic tale of a woman who was sold as a slave to two brothers who have plans to use her in a revenge plot solely because of her resemblance to a past love. Story #2, Unrequited by Kimberly Dean was a great short about a man acting on his feelings for his brother's ex-wife and I think this short could have stood well as a full novel. Story #3, Victim of Deception by Lynn LaFleur was a neat little story about a husband and wife ghost pair who have been double cursed first they can not touch each other and second the can not leave their home. They find a way to break the curse by helping their great grand daughter find her true love.

I would have given this a one-star rating, but the third story was a bit better than the first two, I thought. But maybe that was just because I had been so completely beaten down by the stupidness of the first two that my quality control levels had gone haywire, and also maybe because I am just generally partial to ghosts (and there are ghosts in the 3rd one). I listened to this book on my mp3 player, which may have played up the weaknesses of the stories as well. You know, it just doesn't come across as hot when it's pretty dumb. Then it's just awkward, forced, and a little weird. Oh well, I still listened to the whole thing!

Finished reading: If This Bed Could Talk by Liz Maverick, Lynn LaFleur, Kimberly Dean
Some erotic romance novel. Three short stories, sure to make things interesting. I picked it up along with a few other books at a local dollar bookstore a while ago. I just needed something romatic-ish without the young-ish part that I've been reading recently. A good beach book kind of read. Made me wish it was summer and that I was tanning somewhere hot.
